    Having looked through the backups of the sharepoint databases, which database would I need to restore to get the structure and content back for our sharepoint site. Is WSS_Content the database? Thanks.

    Hello everyone, Unfortunately, we suffered a massive network failure a few days ago which meant that we lost many virtual servers, including SIMS, Tucasi, Eclipse, Sharepoint as well as a few others. We have managed to get SIMS, Tucasi and Eclipse back up and running by restoring from backups. However, I haven't got a clue where to start with restoring Sharepoint 2010. The databases have been backed up onto our DPM 2012 box and I have now re-created a new VM to host the sharepoint site. Currently, I have installed SQL 2008 R2, Sharepoint 2010 and all updates. How do I go about restoring the databases to get this sharepoint site back up and running as soon as possible? Do I have to create a new site collection and create fresh databases, which I then restore over with the backed up databases? Finally, another problem is that the majority of the databases on the DPM box will only restore to the same SQL instance as before. I have setup SQL with the same instance name, but I am unable to restore the databases because the DPM agent is not installed on this new VM. I am reluctant to install the agent at the minute just in case it causes the backed up databases to get written over therefore, losing our information. I hope that the above makes sense to someone and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, I am currently experiencing some brain fog! My question is that our school network consists of mostly all Gigabit switches, which provide gigabit links to all client devices with gigabit links between switches. Our core also, operates at 1 gigabit. My question is that surely there is some performance issues having all our clients connect to the network at 1Gb. I was thinking, would it be worthwhile making all of the client connections run at 100Mb with the uplinks and core still running at 1Gb. Would this be better with regards ensuring that the uplinks and core are not overloaded by a few machines thrashing the 1Gb connection? I hope the above makes sense. J. Worth.

    That is very good to know. Would be good to get the Proxy settings set on the server so that they are used by all of the Mac clients no matter what user logs on to them. I assume you can have two different proxies depending on the user that logs on? i.e. A different proxy port for staff.

    They are Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN wireless network cards. The laptops themselves are Latitude E6500. We are, however, looking at replacing these this summer.

    Sorry! That would help - We have 20 laptops and the access point is an Aruba AP-105. Its an Aruba managed wireless system. The art department also have four desktops (that's all we can fit in the room) which are hard-wired to the network and they can cope with Photoshop just fine without any problems.

    Hello everyone, We teach Digital Photography and they have a set of laptops that they use Photoshop on. However, the problem is that they are slow to load up PSD documents and due to the size of the image files that they are working tend to crash. The department have asked for some new and up to date laptops, however, we believe that it is the wireless network that is slowing these laptops down and causing them to crash when saving large image files onto the network server. The wireless network is N. With a Gigabit uplink all the way to the server. My question is, has anyone else found themselves in the same situation as us and how have they gone about solving it. There is no room for any hard-wired desktops and as the room is multi use between being used for art and digital photography we cannot really implement any permanent solution, so keeping the laptops wireless offers flexibility. Any help/advice regarding the above would be appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance. J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, Our performing arts department are looking at getting some iMacs for music production. They are also looking at getting a Mac server to help manage these clients. My question is - is it possible to integrate the Mac server onto a Windows Active Directory domain? Further, The idea would be that students save their music files onto the Mac server but user authentication is done via Active Directory. Once they log on, they have a drive mounted on their desktop which is their personal share on the Mac server. The Mac server should also configure proxy settings on the Mac as well as other things. Is this possible? Hopefully, what I have written above makes sense - I've never really used Macs before, let alone in a mixed network environment. Thanks in advance for your help/advice. J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, We are looking at archiving all data in both user's home directories as well as our shared drives that is over 5 years old since it was last modified. The question is, what software could be used to archive the data or could RoboCopy suit our requirements. We want to archive the "old" data off onto another server that has a 2TB DAS.     Hello everyone, This question has probably been asked before, but here goes: We have setup a Moodle server that can be accessed by going to the following address: http://moodle and NTLM authentication works correctly. However, when we change it to use an FQDN: http://moodle.school.lea.sch.uk and then access Moodle internally via that address the NTLM authentication does not work. (Our domain is a .local domain) Any advice/suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks in advance. J.Worth

    Hello everyone, We have the following setup for our terminal server environment: SERVER-TSG: RD Gateway RD Licensing RD Connection Broker RD Web Access SERVER-TS1: RD Session Host SERVER-TS2: RD Session Host We are finding that when connecting to a "full" remote desktop connection it hangs on Configuring Remote Connection for about 1-2 mins before actually connecting. This is also the same when launching a RemoteApp. We have configured our certificate on all of the servers and we are not getting any certificate errors. We have a dns record: RD-FARM.SCHOOL.LA.SCH.UK which points to both of the session hosts. Our main question is: Is there anyway of reducing the amount of time it takes for a remote desktop connection to be established? Thanks in advance! J.Worth

    I quite like Sharepoint to be honest. I have been using it since Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. We currently run Sharepoint 2010 in school. We have setup a IT Support site within it using Infopath forms for staff to submit IT support tickets. These are then emailed to us. We then approve them and submit them up to a form library on our IT support website. When we complete/sign off a ticket a workflow is triggered to move the ticket to a completed form library. We have also added an Email Update button to the form so that we can send the creator of the ticket email updates to let them know how we are getting on with solving their issue. We also have a staff cover request form on there which staff can fill in and when they submit it is sent via email to the appropriate people. Up until the end of this term we had an Infopath form for reporting pupil incidences. It has been decided that this is now done straight into SIMS. One of the main reasons for using infopath for pupil incidences is that we had set up rules so that the incident was emailed to the appropriate people within the school - Head of House, Tutor, SLT, etc. We have also used it to host our cover diary. When the cover administrator exports the cover for a particular date range it to html, we have set it to automatically put the cover diary onto our sharepoint site for all staff to browse with a click of a link/button on the front page. The school calendar is also on there with colour coded events representing school holidays, meetings, etc. Recently, we have added a form for reporting hazards to the site staff again staff can fill this in and submit it which then gets emailed automatically to the site manager to follow up. Admittedly, it can take a while to set it up and it can sometimes have a funny 5 minutes, but once you have set it up and figured out some of its quirks (not all bad I hastent to add!!) I find that customising it is fairly straightforward especially with the help of Sharepoint Designer 2010!

    Hello everyone, We have a bit of a situation on our hands...we have Digital Photography as a subject at our school and the amount of photos that a certain member of staff has on their home directory is phenomenal ~ 250GB space used. We also have photos from digital cameras just scattered randomly on our pupil and staff shared drives. Our question is, how have other schools managed to control the excess of images and photos stored on their network. Our storage SAN is filling up exponentially!!! We have managed to do some housekeeping on our pupil shared drive, but there is just so much crap everywhere!! We know that we could quota storage space, but what other things could we do try and get it all under control as it is more than out of control!!! Thanks in advance! J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, I have a Windows 7 Home Premium computer that I use to connect to RD Web and launch RemoteApps. The problem is that I get prompted twice to enter credentials to open a RemoteApp - I get prompted at the RD Web Access login which is fine but for some reason SSO is not working and causing me to have to re-authenticate when I launch a RemoteApp. It also asks for credentials everytime I open another remoteApp during that session. I can confirm that the server side setup is working properly because I have tried it on another Windows computer which is not connected to the same domain. This other computer is running Windows 7 Professional - is it possible that this is the reason why, when launching remoteApps on Home Premium I am asked again when I click on a remoteApp - I can't think this would be. Any help/advice would be appreciated as it is quite annoying when trying to use a number of remoteApps!! Thanks in advance! J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, We have just set up an RD Farm which consists of two RD Session Hosts with Connection Broker to help with load balancing - and it seems to work quite well. We also have RD Web Access on the gateway server as well. Our setup is: Gateway Server - gateway.domain.com (Joined to domain.local) - This is accessible via the internet Session Host 1 - SessionHost1.domain.local Session Host 2 - SessionHost2.domain.local My question is: Is it possible to open up Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc) on a computer and then type in gateway.domain.com which then logs the user onto one of the two session hosts. When trying it, it seems that it tries to connect the user to the RD Gateway Server rather than one of the two session host servers. Any help regarding trying to get it to pass the remote desktop connection to one of the session hosts rather than connecting to the gateway server. I know that you can specify the Gateway server and then enter the FQDN (sessionhost1.domain.local) in the computer to connect to. But we were just wondering if there is a way of it automatically passing these RD connections to the session hosts. Thanks in advance!! J.Worth.

    We have enabled IGMP on all switches barr 2. We have two unmanaged switches that are in a different area to where we are imaging the machines (the link from the workstation back to the server does not pass through any unmanaged switches) - would this still cause us issues? Does anyone know if there are any particular settings on the Netgear switches that need to be altered to get multicasting effectively? - besides enabling IGMP Snooping! We were having issues with multicasting in one part of the school where the workstations go through a switch and then this switch is directly connected back to our core in the server room and it was still painfully slow!!! An interesting thing that we have noticed is that we were imaging some workstations with only 100MB NICs in them and once they had finished the other machines with 1GB NICs began to speed up. This I am really confused - because how can imaging workstations with 100MB NICs in them slow the rest of the imaging process down so much. I am assuming that it is ok for workstations to be connected to a POE switch - I can't see this causing any problems. Thanks again.

    (I have posted the below under "Enterprise Software" as well - sorry if this is bad practice but the below is relevant in both!) Hello everyone, We currently are having issues with multicasting. We have SCCM 2012 installed and are imaging computers. Our problem is that when multicasting it takes ages to open a session and to download the image WIM file. Also, when PXE booting the computers once we have about 10 computers imaging it takes ages to contact DHCP for an IP address. Also, it will struggle to obtain an IP address when the computer has booted into WinPE - by struggle I mean it sometimes does not get an IP address before it times out and bombs out!. If we keep retrying it will eventually work - imaging is still very slow. When we open Task Manager whilst the computer is downloading the image the network utilisation does not get anywhere above 1.50%!!! Our network consists of Netgear GS724TP and GSM7224 switches. We have a GSM7224 switch as our core switch in the server room. We also have a couple of HP Procurve switches in the server rack that are part of our high availability server virtualisation setup. Our network is flat - no vLANs. All switch links are connected at 1GB. We have checked the switches to the best of our knowledge and they all have IGMP enabled and spanning tree is set to RSTP. I hope the above makes sense - we can only think that the issue is down to some settings on the switches. Thanks in advance! J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, We have a HP Officejet 6500A Plus all in one. When we are scanning documents that are double sided, the results of the scan show that it has picked up text and images from the other side of the page. I have tried looking for some settings to see if it is possible to decrease the scanning light intensity, but have not found an option - am I missing something? Has anyone else had the same issue with this and if so how did you go about solving it? Thanks in advance, J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, We have a startup script applied to a set of laptops via group policy which is used to copy a start menu structure from the network to the local machine. It deletes the contents of the current start menu structure on the local machine and then copies the start menu from the network. The problem that we are having is that the startup script does not run at startup and I am thinking that this is because the wireless connection is not connecting quickly enough and so the startup scripts are being skipped. Am I right with this assumption? Also, we use WPA-PSK not RADIUS. My question is, is there anyway of getting the laptops to wait for a network connection so that the startup scripts are executed as appropriate. Thanks in advance, J.Worth.

    Hello everyone, We have installed AQA E-Science onto our server using the server install. We are trying to get the client install to work but it keeps failing when we launch the e-science client with the following error -> "Unable to load JVM library" Has anyone else experienced this problem, if so how did you go about solving it?
