Could be down to multiple Access Point groups with the R310s being in a different group and as a result broadcasting differently. To check whether this is the case you will need to go on to the controller. If you're running pre v10, go to 'Access Points' then scroll down and you should see a section that says AP group. Click in to see if there are additional groups, other than the default. If you're running v10. If you go into 'Access Points' along the left-hand side you should see a '+' sign, click that and it should say 'AG' and follow the above. If only one group is showing, let me know and we can review further.

If on the AP box they say "Unleashed" they will need to be factory reset and re-installed with the correct firmware to enable them to join your SmartZone. This is where you may need assistance from your partner to ensure the correct firmware version is installed on to the AP. Or replaced by the partner with the correct AP.Once the correct firmware version is running, as long as the Ap can see the SmartZone from a network perspective, if it will then join the staging zone on the SmartZone. From here you can move it in to the relevant "zone" at this point it will be sent the relevant config based on those set within the "zone".

Hi Jamie, it sounds like you are going to need some assistance from your Ruckus partner. The Unleashed AP you have, will not connect to the ZoneDirector or SmartZone as they all run on different versions of firmware. Your Ruckus partner will be able to help with this. If you plan to move your 7363s to the SmartZone that also has R510s on, you will have firmware compatibility issues and this will not work. The 7363 only work up to FW v3.1, and the R510 was released on v3.4. There are some work around that may be able to take advantage of, but again your Ruckus partner should be providing you assistance with this. In addition, if you have both the ZoneDirectot and SmartZone on the network this may cause issues as APs will need to know who they should be joining. Your Ruckus partner should have provided you with an instalaltion/phasing plan and checked this all with you prior to purchase. I would suggest your best option is to go to them and insist that they assist you get this up and running.

Hi @jamieleics, can you confirm if you're trying to join your AP to an Unleashed network, or to a ZoneDirector? If the latter, the Unleashed AP will not join the ZoneDirector as it has the wrong firmware installed. If you are trying to join the AP to an existing Unleashed network then it should just connect, worth checking that it is in the right subnet. The AP, if on the same layer 2 network and power is being provided to the AP, should just connect.

If you're using the ZoneDirector with it, the AP needs to discover and request to join the ZD, this should happen automatically if the AP is on the same subnet. Could be worth double checking that it is. If the ZD has been changed and the auto response has been turned off, you can configure it through CLI using the set director IP "primary(static)" "Secondary(ZD) command for example - set director ip 192.168.0.8 192.168.0.3

No problem, makes more economic sense to stay put for the time being. Just for your reference on the ZD it looks like you will be able to run up to FW v9.13 and support all your AP models. At a point when you're ready to upgrade, we can always put a case to Ruckus for additional discounts to upgrade your AP estate.

Hello, Just following up from yesterday, a number of your older APs would not work with the R600s on the virtual SmartZone and are only capable of running the really old FW. We could get the 7352s and R600s working together, but none of the others, your 7341, 7343, 7363 and 7762 all would not work on the same FW code as the R600s.

Your R600s won't be a problem. I need to double check some of your 7 series APs. I will confirm those tomorrow when I'm back in the office. No problem to provide some pricing. If you could PM me your contact details and organisation name and I'll be able to request the relevant pricing. The licenses on the SmartZones are single licenses, rather than the minimum 25 upgrade license that the 3000 series forced, so it means we can match the license count precisely, and also add additional licenses much cheaper. With the virtual SmartZone you'll get a software instance that would then run on your environment. Hi Nathan, 1. did you have to by new access points to support this or does any model support this. vSZ doesnt support all AP models. If you can let me know which models you have I can let you know. 2. If you bought additional licenses do these transfer across ZD licenses do not transfer across, however if you have the right partner they will be able to negotiate high discounts on the licenses when transferring from ZD to SZ ( we can do this for you if you're not already engaged with someone else) 3. Is it reliable and performance is okay on hyper-v. No performance issues that i'm aware of. Due to its price, you could always purchase 2 instances for HA. 4. does it cost a lot to implement or is it cheaper than replacing a physical controller. It is considerably cheaper than a physical controller In order to run an vSZ instance you will need certain specs for your environment. If you let me know your AP counts I can let you know. Also, with Hyper-V you would need to run 2012 R2.

No we don't, but if you're suggesting that it is down to this reason that I put the above, then you are wrong. This is my opinion and advice for this situation, to get the most out of the investment that has been made by the school.

Looking at your situation right now, you have R700s, a damn fine AP, that will serve you for years to come, the 7982s are a little old in the tooth, aren't AC, but do support the latest FW. These APs are workhorses. We still have a lot of clients using them. Your ZD last supported FW was 9.10, so is something that makes sense to swap out. I would expect that if you moved to Ubiquiti you would need more APs that what you're currently using. The reason you pay more for the likes of Ruckus is for the technology behind the badge. Ruckus has always been able to do more with less, in terms of AP count. Adding in more APs may mean more cable runs, more ports etc. In your position right now, I think it makes more sense to stick with Ruckus. If you were in need of a whole network overhaul, then certainly worth reviewing the market, testing different solutions, engaging with people that know the solution in order to plan your install. In your situation right now you have a great AP base, some of which isn't that old at all and will last for years to come.

As far as i'm aware there aren't any problems running on that Hyper-V server. I will double check with the engineers and let you know. For your AP count, the recommended resources are 2 core, 13GB Ram and 100GB disk. The SmartZone has been pretty on-par with the ZD, however since the latest FW release, 5.0, it is now getting some features and functionality that the ZD won't get. SmartZone is the platform, moving forward, that will get the bulk of the R&D.

Hello, Splitting your purchase sounds like the best way forward. In regards to management, you have a few options, like you say move to the ZD1200, or if you support a virtual infrastructure, to look at the virtual SmartZone. Your 7982s and R700s are both support on the latest ZD FW. With the SmartZone the FW has a different version series, you would be able to go to version 3.6, which has only just been superseded. Short term you could look at getting your new controllers, both will support yoru current infrastructure, in addition, both controllers have an incremental licensing model, so everytime you add an AP, just would just add the required number of licenses. You can also move the config from your 1100 to 1200. There are a few things you would need to do, which your partner could help you on. If you're not currently engaged with anyone, we can help with this.

Some things to try: If you have an existing support contract: Contact your partner and they will be able to look to sort a replacement / fix the issue for you In Recovery Mode - format the disk and restore the FW to an old version and go through the step-upgrade to the version you were running. Go through RMA process with your provider If you have no support/warranty you could try the below, there's no guarantees this will fix it, but it has been successful in the past. Open up the unit. Inside you should see a compact flash drive. Take it out. Format this on a PC. Put it back in. Go in to rescue mode and go through the step FW upgrade. This method is a last resort option. We're a Palo Alto Networks house. If you're open to their VM appliance the pricing is incredibly competitive, alternatively, on the appliance side, they now have their PA-820 and PA-850 solutions which are ideal for most EDU sites. If Palo could be of interest we can set-up a cybersecurity review where one of their boxes will sit on your site and record what your current solution may be missing etc. We can also run webexs, send product info etc. We're here to help if needed.

These prices quoted are all RRP. There are significant discounts available to all EDU clients, so if anyone on here is paying what's quoted here you are being seriously overcharged. Even taking in to account the EDU pricing for Ruckus it will still be more expensive than Ubiq. There are now cheaper ways to buy Ruckus, for example all their controllers are now using an incremental licensing models, so should you need to add a single AP, you can now buy a single AP license which makes it a lot easier to plan ahead. Honestly, it was always a frustration on the old controllers when clients had to add a minimum 25AP increment. There is also the Unleashed solution that has been mentioned. This is up to 25 Aps and follows the master-slave analogy. You pay for a single support contract which supports your entire Unleashed deployment, even those added at a later date. Option three is that you go for a managed WiFi solution, like the one we offer, where we will host your Ruckus points and manage them, supply fixes etc. Again, all methods above will be more expensive than Ubiq. What we can do with Ruckus is do more with less APs. It is very common to see Ruckus require up to 30% fewer APs than other tier one manufacturers. These means lower install costs (less cable/data points required) and lower port/switch requirements. You also get trained engineers on the end of the phone to help should you ever get in to issues. In terms of longevity, we have a lot of clients, hundreds, still using APs they bought 5-6 years ago and had no problems. So there are reasons to use the likes of Ruckus. Ruckus specifically has been through some testing times with acquisitons however it has come out of it all looking pretty good. Arris, current owners, are leaving Ruckus to it. They are seen as a separate business unit. Through previous acqusitions they were bought along with what was the Brocade ICX switch series, now called the Ruckus ICX series. This allows them to be more comparable with the other tier one offerings ie. Cisco/Meru, Aruba/HP. Integration between the two, Ruckus WiFi and ICX switches and should be pretty damn good. So yes, it has been through a times of change, but it has come out the other end pretty unscathed and with a complete switch portfolio. We aren't here to say that "if you need WiFi, you have to go for Ruckus", but, if people are considering Ruckus, then do let us know, we have been a Ruckus partner for 10 years and an EduGeek Sponsor for not far off that. We will offer practical advice and assistance where required, we will work with you to design WiFi for your building, environment and requirement. We won't be as cheap as Ubiq and we never will be, but we will be able to deliver a solution that will keep you going for years to come, we're at the end of the phone should you need support/advice and we get access to the best discounts available due to our partner status within Ruckus.

They're a pure IP high res camera manufacturer and a solution that we have installed and supported into schools and colleges throughout the UK. Camera vs camera Mobotix is more expensive than those you mentioned but we typically require a lot less cameras to cover areas.
