  1. Thanks to all your lovely messages. So I think I'll still have to lurk in the deep and keep you all posted!!
  2. Dear All, In true one flew over the cuckoo's next style, I'm leaving. Sadly as I'm moving to a new industry it means leaving education and no more Bett shows and most probably an EduGeek presence (it's not that I was an active user anyways!!) I'd just like to say it was great meeting lots of you, and a special mention to these people who have helped me in my last 14 years in schools. @tom_newton @Net-Ctrl @ZeroHour @Dos_Box @TheScarfedOne @vikpaw @ICTDirect_Dave For those who are interested I'll be starting my new post as Head of Technology Group at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory World-leading scientific research - Plymouth Marine Laboratory on the 18th!

  5. No Chuckie Egg ??
  6. Hi Roger we already have classroom embedded across all of our curriculum, I think this is more for personal organisation. I've asked him to get the name of the product from the person who mentioned it to him
  7. My VP asked me to research a software solution today that sits on top of Gmail, it allows better integration between parent and teacher and uses sims for it's data, and email sources. He said it reminds staff when they need to communicate with the parent...just wondered if anyone knows's a product that does this?
  8. Absolutely! ....and of course I will be popping by at some point.
  9. Gotta say.... @Net-Ctrl know how to run a competition!
  10. Been a Salamander customer for years, and whilst scripts and bespoke systems have never sat well with me, you cant fault them. As it's so flexible I've never really heard "no that can't be done" or "im waiting for the delopers to enable that feature" You email and they fix/ammened it, never had to wait long ever.
  11. We've been using Google here for the last year or so, have to say not had any issues at all (some issues have happend whilst we've been asleep, but would not have had much impact anyways). It's been a joy to manage and has enabled an already shrinking IT team to focus on other priorities and be more proactive. I would say a stable internet is essential (for that reason we moved away from our grid for learning, we are using Chromebooks which are capable of working on google documents offline, if ever needed. To the IT staff who "hold back" their schools by not embracing the cloud, worried about their jobs. I can only say embrace it you might find it a lot less stressful and staff and students more appreciateive that they dont' just see you around the school when there is a problem, as well as learning new skills and helping their students acheive more. No students means no job! (climbed down of my soap box now) I've always said if the internet was down we have a problem if we were in the cloud or not, as most teaching resources are online! Hope that helps.
  12. travelling up from sunny Plymouth on the Wednesday...attending Thursday/Friday. @Dos_Box ...whats the best way to keep in touch for meeting up with the EduGeeker's Wednesday evening?
  13. Hi and welcome, we've just purchased NetSupport DNA recently....so here's my recomendations....although I wouldn't be telling them cost is not an option! Firstly look on edugeek, there's a few threads about comparing the two, I think on the ones I've seen I'd say NetSupport Came off best. We looked at Impero it's a great product but our staff did not like it. Secondly we have just bought netsupport DNA/School and notifier, I've personnaly found it a great product suite, my technicians love it, as well as my e-safety officer and staff. Netsupport classroom has Chromebook integration and even a Chromebook Client for the tutor so you are not restricted to windows machines. When I've needed it support have been brilliant and very knowledgable (pre and post sales) We were looking at it for a number of reasons, replacement classroom management, power settings, AUP signup, E-Safety in addition to our filtering. audit trail activity, notifications. Method of installation was very easy, the footprint on the client is tiny..the "Co-Browsing" on the Netsupport School product was really good. My advice get a demo (both if nessary for your due process) as products overlap massivley, but I think it's more intesting reading the forums about people who are current customes and why they might be looking to change.. There's my +1 for Netsuport.
  14. For those of you who are wanting to deploy NetSupport DNA client and would also like to use the web filtering part of the software on windows 7 machines....I'm sure your aware there is a conflict between Sophos and the DNA Client install. (I won't go into whose fault this is (Sophos..I believe) but DNA has to be installed first in order for the two of them to play nicely) In order to combat this, the DNA client setup will detect the install of the Sophos LSP and not install the DNA LSP to enable web filtering, BOOOH! But neccesary. If you have turned off the web filtering element of Sophos anyways then this script will tidy up the LSP so you can install to existing clients on the network, we have other mechanisms in place for this feature. Befware after the DNA client is installed sophos will not re-enabled their LSP as Sophos will detect the presence of the DNA client. Obvisouly this is not needed on Windows 10, so will be a moot point soon. I have written this script to disable the Sophos LSP, and DNA will install correctly, we push out via SCCM so we can handle the reboot process. @echo off echo Installing NetSupport DNA Agent - Please Wait. REM Adds the Key to remove LSP when UPdate service started reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sophos\Web Intelligence" /v SwiUpdateAction /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f REM Start Sophos Web Intelligence Update Service net start "swi_update_64" REM Taps Foot... timeout /T 10 REM test for absence of Sophos LSP and install DNA Client netsh winsock show catalog | find /i "Sophos" > NUL & IF ERRORLEVEL 1 (msiexec.exe /I "%~dp0\NetSupport DNA Agent.msi" /QN REBOOT=ReallySuppress /L*v %~dp0\Install.log) ELSE ( ECHO Sophos LSP was found) REM Return exit code to SCCM exit /B %EXIT_CODE% Hope this helps someone.
