  1. I have installed the extension pack and that now allows me to pie boot but is failing to find the host as the network driver is missing. Any advice on how to find the correct network driver for a macbook pro 13" 2011 model? or iMac 2011. BOSSMAN: DId you pie boot it or did you just directly use a copy of the build image iso? Thanks Guys
  2. Yer we have to do that when importing network drivers into the RMMC. Have you done it through virtual box before?
  3. Hi Guys, I have been asked by a member of staff if it would be possible to install a copy of sims on a laptop for them to practice running reports etc at home. So as the title says is it possible to install sims on a standalone XP laptop and then for them to use it at home? The data doesn't need to be live or even real. A dummy database would do. Any advice would be great thanks
  4. Hello I am trying to set up a virtual RM CC4 machine on an apple mac in VirtualBox. This is my first few steps into the virtualised world. I have tried making an XP VM and then pxe booting it but its having none of it. Has anyone done this before? Have any guidance on how to do it? or possibly a guide? Is it possible to pxe boot a virtual machine from a physical RM network? I have looked at the physical to virtual tools but it takes an age to make an image. Is there a better way? Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi all, Wondering if anyone knows of a good app or cheap adapter of some sort to turn an iPod touch into a good barcode scanner to do a stock inventory or pc's and monitors etc. I love the barcode scanners they have in the apple store but they cost hundreds. I have also looked at apps but the camera as a scanner doesn't seem detailed enough. Thanks
  6. Sorry new to p2v. Which one did you use? Cheers
  7. Hi guys, Did anyone get this working? If you did could you let me know how? What settings? Whether you used p2v or pie booted etc. Thanks
  8. Hi guys, As the title says was wondering if any ict technicians or network managers use iPod touch's or iPad's as a technical tool to help solve issues. Came across an interesting thread about using an iPod touch on a mitel phone system for VoIP calling. It got me thinking what other uses do people use them for? What apps? What you have set up to work on them? They strike me as a great mobile device for remoting onto a server quickly or changing a password, logging a call in spiceworks etc. What do you guys use them for? Thanks
  9. Good to know. Just didn't want them to turn up and fire questions with me completely blind sided Cheers
  10. Hi Just wondering if any of you have gone through an ofsted inspection at the secondary school you work at and whether you had any involvement in it? Did you have to answer questions? Show what you do to keep kids safe etc? Any experiences would be great, was just interested to see what it involved. Thanks
  11. Some more things to try, thanks Luckily we only have year 7's in tomorrow doing treasure hunts around the school so IT shouldn't be that heavily used. The switch should be fine as other machines on the switch are working ok. The machines just stopped connecting though when they were turned on so could it be that DHCP has run out of IP's? as they would already of had one assigned when they were working.
  12. No IP address. Has confused me as the machines aren't all not the same switch either.
  13. Hi Guys, Typically last thing on Friday our RM CC4 network decided it didn't want to go back to school and stopped letting users connect and disconnected our ICT office from the network. Went in yesterday and fixed the issue with users not being able to login (Problem with some RM services) but our office is still disconnected from the network. The machines are still in AD and checked the switches the ports are connected to are ok, restarted etc but still no joy :S i can't login to our switches as the council have control on them so have to wait until Monday. I also tried the PCs in another room and they work fine so nothing with the actual PC's. The signal lights on the back of the computers are still flashing away so there is a connection but on the computers you can't access the internet, intranet and shared drives etc. They just show the limited or low connectivity icon in the task bar. Any one have any ideas what it could be? Thanks
  14. Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone managed to get devizes' room booking system to work via RM Easylink and how you did it? Its set up running perfectly in school but cannot access from outside. The link is added to easy link but wondering what else needs doing? Sorry if this is a simple question but new to the world of easylink. Many Thanks
  15. I'll have a look at OPSmartdesk thanks, but i'm ideally looking for a free solution. I recently moved into the role and the last technician used an access database but it's in a complete mess and a nightmare to keep up to date and query. Cheers
  16. Hi All, I am looking at new ways of recording and carrying out our inventory of computer equipment and this came up. I know there are a lot of posts on inventories but not many mention actually using SIMS Equipment Register and if it is any good. So my question is does anyone use it and what do you think? How do you use it? Just record names? How do queries work? How customisable is it? Also as a side note does anyone use an iphone barcode scanner peripheral? Came up as an idea of scanning and recording the equipment. Thanks for any responses
  17. Are you talking about Equipment Register in SIMS? Have you used it before? Can you use a barcode scanner with it? Cheers

    OCS Inventory

Does ocs inventory get the model number of monitors as well? I want to find somethin (if possible) that will scan our network returning the serial numbers of pc's, laptops and monitors along with the computer name and maybe the computer name the monitor is attached to. At present our inventory is handled in access but it's very time consuming to keep up to date. We need to be able to query the database for equipment when a lease is up. E.g. Search for an order number. Many thanks
  19. Thanks for all the helpful responses. Lots to be thinking about and i'm sure i'll be back with more questions Once again thanks.
  20. Not really no. Still endless problems and having to find workarounds that we wouldnt have to on a windows network. We upgraded a couple of years ago and the licences are due for renewal which will be another cost in about a year. Also we want to break the cycle of needing to upgrade when it changes to CC5 in 3 years or however many it is.
  21. Hi I'm after a bit of advice from anyone that may have gone through the same transition. I am network manager at a secondary school that is currently running RM CC4 network. There is a team of 3 technicians and we have been asked to look into moving the network over from CC4 to a windows network. I am about to start drawing up a plan but wanted to know if anyone has gone through a similar transition? Any advice you have? What you learnt? How long it took? How smoothly it went etc. We have about 500 PC's and 80 laptops that we would be connecting up. Also if you are using a windows network any tools / applications you believe are invaluable and found really useful. (Comparitive to the RMMC, RM Tutor etc). We are going to set up a test environment in the school with a laptop trolley. Could this be achieved by setting up a seperate OU on the server and having the laptops running to that? Thanks for any information.
