  1. So technically the same message could be sent to a thousand email accounts? Just thinking about emailing parents?
  2. According to Office 365 Vs Hosted Exchange: The 5 Biggest Differences | Techno Lovers an account is limited to sending 30 messages per minute. Does this mean we wouldn't be able to send the same email to all staff (140ish)?
  3. Hi We have a CC4 network and use RM tutor 5. But for it to work and even for the link to show up in all programs we have to set staff up as privileged users on that particular machine, which is annoying. Is this how tutor works? Or is this a fault on our installation? Does yours just work or do you also have to make them privileged user? Thanks
  4. We have spice works running for our help desk but it doesn't pick up all the machines on the network. ANy other ideas? Thanks
  5. Also if anyone knows a good free software auditing program that can list all the software installed on the network Thanks
  6. Hi Does anyone have a policy document or process document you have which sets out in black and white what happens if staff want to install software on their machines or network? Also if they do without permission what the consequences are? Just wondering if someone could PM me or share it? Need some ideas. Thanks
  7. Anyone looking at using this as their schools email system? Our existing one is woeful. We are currently testing exchange 2010 but this may allow us to save a lot of money and time.
  8. It does but the map it gives back is a bit difficult to read. Just wondering if there were any other alternatives? Thanks guys
  9. hi computer browser is already enabled :S
  10. Is this in relation to the spice works network map not working? If it is what do i need to do to fix it? Thanks
  11. Hi Guys, Is there a piece of software that can scan my network and give me a network map? I have tried spice works network map but it only brings up my machine, on server and two empty clouds lol. Need a quick way to produce a network map. Thanks
  12. Cool. We are currently testing exchange 2010 but this could save us a fair amount of time and money plus the extra features. We currently use live @edu for onsite only and they can only send to other school inboxes. But for staff being used for external emails and 25gb mailboxes would be a massive advantage.
  13. Could this be used as a schools primary email system. E.g. Run office 365 as the main email system for staff? Could this be set up so that staff use it as their normal email system and students use it for theirs but the students can only email when on site? Or just email other students and not see staff emails? If any of that makes sense to someone ;P Thanks
  14. Can i also ask for this. Carrying out a licensing audit and struggling to find any info on the type of license this is? Can anyone confirm it is freeware? Thanks
  15. How do you have your scan setup? DO you use ip ranges? or domain etc? Also i get a lot of machines returned saying failed to scan possibly due to ports not being open but the network all uses the same image :S Cheers
  16. Hi Is there a free and easy way to scan a school cc4 network and see what software is installed and how many copies are installed across the whole network. E.g. so i would know we had 450 copies of office installed across the school? I have tried spice works but i cannot get the software numbers to work correctly as the numbers only show about 4 licenses when i know there is a lot more. Also can't get the network map feature to work but thats another issue Thanks
  17. Hi I replied to your post :s the third post on here :s but we don't use securus. I'll have a look at the switches this morning.
  18. How would we check for a loop through on the network? Spanning tree, is this turned on, on the core switch? Any draw backs from enabling it? Cheers
  19. Is there anything specific to look out for in wireshark?
  20. They are 3com switches. Been here longer than i have and when i asked the council they couldn't give me an answer :|
  21. We do have a mitel IP phone system that maybe on a VLAN. We have never managed the phones so i will check on that tomorrow. If it is how could a VLAN be causing the issues? We had a similar issue a few years back when i came to the school and the previous senior technician had used ethernet splitters in classrooms which caused havoc. I'll have a look at wireshark tomorrow as well.
  22. This is a copy of the log from one of the ports with errors. I do have to say since changing the core switch the number of errors has dramatically decreased. port: GigabitEthernet1/0/2 Peak value of input: 5001134 bytes/sec, at 2000-06-06 23:57:40 Peak value of output: 4842600 bytes/sec, at 2000-05-05 04:07:14 Last 300 seconds input: 93 packets/sec 10673 bytes/sec 0% Last 300 seconds output: 97 packets/sec 36362 bytes/sec 0% Input (total): 940295537 packets, 318311186090 bytes 937088408 unicasts, 2242302 broadcasts, 964780 multicasts Input (normal): 940295490 packets, - bytes 937088408 unicasts, 2242302 broadcasts, 964780 multicasts Input: 47 input errors, 0 runts, 47 giants, 0 throttles 0 CRC, 0 frame, - overruns, 0 aborts - ignored, - parity errors Output (total): 759778827 packets, 399820918224 bytes 734846446 unicasts, 17582701 broadcasts, 7349680 multicasts, 0 pauses Output (normal): 759778827 packets, - bytes 734846446 unicasts, 17582701 broadcasts, 7349680 multicasts, 0 pauses Output: 0 output errors, - underruns, - buffer failures 0 aborts, 0 deferred, 0 collisions, 0 late collisions 0 lost carrier, - no carrier ---------------------------------------------------------- The network is in the region of 20-25 switches. "can you log into the switch and ping a host, see the port the mac address is coming from?" Sorry how would i do this? Thanks
  23. Sorry my knowledge of switches is fairly limited. But from a quick google i don't think we do have any VLANs. Cheers
  24. They are. So far they have been trying for over 6 months to fix it!! It took me 2 months to get them to agree to swapping the core switch to see if that could be the issue. I am wondering if possible there is a clash from the firmware of the new switch to the other switches that is causing the issues. Could that be a possible cause? Got to love these forums thanks for all the comments guys
