I've recently used rclone to copy a few tb of data over to a shared Google drive. The added benefit of if anything changes on the source after you have copied you can run a sync command which just transfers any new or altered files. Worked much better than Google's own client.

How do you filter out the last year's worth of work?

GDPR in schools vs gdpr.co.uk
tj2419 replied to The_IT_Guy's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Thanks @eddyc Do gdpr.co.uk do differentiated training? Eg admin, teacher, governor etc or is it one module for all? -
Most of our departments have started setting up their own shared google drives plus with the file limit per shared drive I think we will have department drives and a central staff drive just for whole school resources.

We are looking to start migrating local shared drives to Google drive. It is backed by SLT and we've been asked to come up with a plan. The current lockdown has shown staff how useful and flexible Google drive can be. My main questions are: What is the best way to migrate shared drives to Google drive? Have you done it? How did you do it? What did you learn/find out? Would you do it differently now? Any problems you have run into? Have you had any issues around number of files in a team drive or folder depth? E.g. the 400,000 file limit on a team drive or the 20 folder depth limit. https://support.google.com/a/answer/7338880?hl=en I have seen options from: - making shared drives read only so content migrates over time. - copying everything over at once to a single team drive. - copying everything to a staging team drive and then getting departments to copy over to where they want it. Any advice would be great. Thank you

We're coming up to the point where we need to update all the staff GDPR training. How do you deliver and record the training? Is it all done in-house with a Google quiz or something at the end? Online videos? External provider? Are there any specific things that should be covered in the training? Any advice would be appreciated. Last year's ours was done with a couple of videos, some information to read and a quiz which recorded responses then emailed them results with answers to fill any knowledge gaps. Thanks in advance

So to revive a thread but did you find a fix for this? Thanks -
You absolute legend! This has been messing with my head for days! Thank you

We are hoping to use a google site for a secure governor portal, for access to minutes etc. We have created them school-issued Gsuite accounts to access it. When they go to the site, if they are logged into a personal account the login screen doesn't come up. Just a 404 error. This happens because their personal account doesn't have access to the site which is fine but is there a way to force the login screen to come up or at least a message that tells them to log out of their personal account and in with the school one? Thanks

Sorry to revive this but is it possible to link to a website? We have a number of cloud tools but when I create a shortcut save it in a publically accessible area and link to it, it doesn't appear. Thanks

Anyone using a third party surface dock or pen? Thinking of getting them but the official ones are about £200 in total. Just wondering if any cheaper alternatives are work it or just the official ones.

I have just had the usual, "Here's a new cloud-based piece of software we have bought into", no warning. From the looks of it no effort has been made to check it out from a GDPR aspect. Would this be where you would carry out a risk assessment? Any templates? Does anyone have a set list of questions you ask of a new supplier before agreeing to purchase software from them? If so could I have a copy? Thanks

[sims] SIMS - How do you add "Teacher Role" to sims user
tj2419 replied to The_IT_Guy's topic in MIS Systems
Thanks but they already have the class teacher assigned to them in the group's -
I took a friend to the garage this morning and whilst in the shop someone has crashed into the side and really dented the front wing above the tyre. They have CCTV and are checking if there is anything on it but wondered if anyone knew whether I have a particular right to request a copy of the footage regardless of if they say you can see anything so I can check myself? Thanks

Ubiquiti Unifi POE Injector, anyone got one they don't need?

That would be amazing. It's for a nano hd! Yeah can wait. Thanks [emoji106] -
We have A LOT of old power leads, VGA cables etc. Is there anyone that recycles/picks them up for free? Seems a waste to put in the landfill.

Virtual machine for the controller with 39 APs. Only about 3 clients at the moment as no one is in.
-
Ok plot thickens. I restored a backup and it worked. But... After a while it started doing the same thing again. Captive portal not loading and saying "no internet".
-
We've been testing some different wireless vendors and decided to go with Unifi but I cant decide between the nano-hd or the ac-pro access points. Do you think we would get much benefit from the mu-mimo of the nano-hd or go for the ac-pro? The ac-pro has the better rates at 2.4Ghz but slower at 5Ghz. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Looks good, shame education can't sign up to the beta [emoji30]

They've been around a good few years as they used to work with webanywhere but then went off on their own and created edulinkone. One of our favourite suppliers and the product just works and they keep adding really useful features with no increase in cost.

Is the detection libraries a new feature due to be released? I don't see this when going into our settings. Cheers

Hi JScott, We trailed and purchased Senso last month to replace Impero. So far we are really impressed with the product and the support is outstanding. Easiest support team to contact and get a helpful response from quickly. Nightly shutdowns - not there yet but the ability to schedule features is apparently due for release imminently so will be able to soon. You can do it at the moment just not on a schedule. Same for WOL. So easy to deploy and use. Big recommendation from us [emoji106]
