We normally purchase our chromebooks with 4GB ram in to cope a bit more. We are pushing out a kind of 1:1 scheme with sixth form and have seen some for £99 with 2GB RAM. Would you steer clear of these? They will only be used by one student not shared. Is anyone happily using 2GB chromebooks? They will mostly just be using internet, google classroom and google docs. Bit late to the game I know but has anyone got a guide for creating a working office 2016 package for a CC4 network or have a package they can share? (Big ask I know). I know they do a package ready made but its £400 just wondered if anyone did it themselves? Cheers

Sorry to change the subject but we are about to do this. We are planning to transfer the SQL licence from our previous server to our new one. Where can I find an installer for the full version of SQL. Do you install the express version then upgrade? What licence information does it require? Ours was previously installed via LEA, hence the lack of info, which I will need to find. Cheers

I've had a little play but to do any of the really cool apps looks like you have to be using Google cloud storage or SQL paid for. Doesn't seem a huge amount you can do with data in a Google sheet. I maybe wrong as it was only a brief look so far.

I am having to cancel a whole school training event tonight because its using Google Forms and it wont load them without the captcha warning and asking for about 5 image checks per user which is just not going to work! Breach of SLA?

Anyone else keep getting battered by the Google Captcha screen saying your school is doing too many google search requests? Yesterday, wouldn't even come up with the picture we had done that many. Nothing has changed usage wise. It's getting really frustrating as we are a G Suite school.

Yes we are, we were about to use Sims parent lite app but then saw the feature, enabled it, didn't tell the parents about it and some submitted changes themselves without any guidance / training! Also means we don't have to give them another login as they are already using it.

Is the licensing for Soundtrap based on concurrent users or per user account as otherwise 1000 users is £3700 pa!

Hi We are a long time customer of Overnet data back in the days when they were part of WebAnywhere. We didn't use any other systems before then. There product especially EduLink One has just got better and better in my view. Staff love it with the ability to easily assign house points to sims which was a quick win. Marksheets also a plus for staff using it from home. Parents like the ability to view assessments 24/7 and be emailed their children's reports too. We don't use the homework block as our school currently prefers to use the paper planners for that. They keep developing the product with new features every few months so we now heavily use the room booking module as it syncs with SIMS, parents can update their info through it for GDPR compliance. From admin side it is a set and forget job really. Overall we are a really happy customer of theirs.

Thanks Graham. Is there anyone else who has gone 1:1 with Chromebooks that has any project proposal documents they could share? Are they all parental contribution schemes? Do your parents pay per month or one fixed fee? Which partners do you work with? Thanks

Out of interest how is yours funded. Do you do it all though parental contributions or fund some of it yourselves? Do you use a scheme like the learning foundation one? Thanks

Thanks @mjk some useful thoughts. What I'm trying to do is have responses for questions I know we will get asked. If the sbm asks about costs and Incan identify areas for potential to offset costs slightly it makes for a stronger arguement. I have a pilot group of teachers using Chromebooks who are going to help with their feedback in terms of teaching and learning side. Lots of places list "you'll save X, Y , Z from photocopying etc but I thought it would be interesting to see from people that have, how much the photocopying reduced etc. Just to pick something out from what you said. Are all your students able to use word processors for exams? How do you justify that? What devices to they use as Chromebooks surely will still be connected to the internet. Thanks again

We are starting to look at the feasibility of going 1:1 with Chromebooks. I am interested in any schools on here that have gone down this route already. A big ask but do any of you have copies of research you did before hand that you could dm me? Specifically around costings, looking at where savings could be made e.g. photocopying, exercise books, existing equipment etc. Anything that would help us with our research and feasibility study. Or possibly reviews you have carried out after making the switch? Did your research at the beginning pan out or were predictions in photocopier savings etc not realised? Also, if there are any schools in the north west that have done this? We are going to engage with a solutions provider for this too but want to get some general research done before that stage. We're looking at the same. Anyone recommend a good supplier who we can build up a picture of what we would need. .e.g. is the cctv literally just the cameras and the Ubiquiti NVR?

Currently I use backup assist for local backups that go to one NAS and are mirrored to another NAS at the other end of the building. We also use OPSoftware for cloud based backup who backup our backup server (about 6TB). I pay just shy of £1500 a year for this setup. Are there any other clear recommendations of alternative providers? We are mainly physical servers although our SIMS server, Edulink and RM Access servers are about to be visualised on VMWare. I like the fixed costs of the current setup but would also like to get it all under one backup software to maintain. Cheers

I am looking to transfer our domain away from our current provider as we are leaving them as our ISP. Can any domain hosting company host a sch.uk address? Or are there only specific providers? I had a look on names.co.uk but don't seem to be able to add the sch.uk domain. Cheers

We are going to be adding our SIMS server to a VMware setup this summer. We are a secondary school with around 65 teachers 10 admin staff who use SIMS. Anyone give any advice as to how many processors, RAM etc you would allocate to the SIMS server VM? Also need to work out the number of cores that would be for SQL licensing as I'm a bit confused over that. Cheers

There's been a lot of break ins near mine recently so looking to invest in a home security kit. After any recommendations people may have? Haven't got a huge budget. Basically after external camera, internal camera and some door/window sensors. Ideally linked to phone for alerts and wireless. Cheers

Sorry to reignite an old thread but are there any other providers people are using or @DJ-1701 who did you go with? We currently use OPSoftware's cloud backup at £1000 per year for unlimited storage from one server. Just checking there are no other better options?
