I have a scenario in which staff and students share the same domain name (abc.org) and login domain for Google. I would like to keep things this way. Staff use O365 for email on abc.org. We would like to allow students to use Gmail for email with the same domain (abc.org) that they currently use. I'm going to keep the MX record on the O365 side, what the most effective approach to get this done without changing the login and sharing experience for staff and students? I've heard about a number of things including dual delivery and using an alias domain.

Enjay, I'm looking to move all files in the entire organization to File Stream, so Spanning fills the need of backing up any file. Also, we went through Dell for the purchase, so perhaps it is cheaper that way.

Just got a quote for spanning and it was $3.20 per user. For the value it provides it seems worth it to me for users that work with critical data such as administration. I'm going to roll it out this summer and move all of my central office users to File Stream.

Does the Team Drive trash include files outside of Google Docs? That seems to be the issue with Vault. The only search options are for Google files, but If I have users store PhotoShop or AutoCad files in the G drive and they are deleted Vault has no restore option. Ideally people would only delete what they do not need and definitely not delete it twice, but the edu space is not an ideal one :-). I will look at some of the backup options mentioned here.

I'm looking to move our user directories to file stream over the next few years. I've noticed though that when you delete a file from the G: drive that is known Google Docs that file is gone. Anyone using a 3rd party backup for their Google content?

Thanks @FN-GM I will have to check out GAM. To be honest I have not used it before, but it sounds like it will give us some additional ability to work in the Google Space. Our district is pretty new to the world of Google and as I Microsoft guy I was not thrilled, but hard to beat the price.

Sorry I didn't leave a ton of details. I'm refering to file servers, I'll still have my camera, phone, printer, AD, GPS, SIS, and other servers just not the pesky file servers and the mountain of backups to deal with.

I've had a small group of users working with File Stream since it was launched. So far so good. I'm very excited about the proposition of moving all staff home directories to the new G drive. The challenge is a process of doing without the login credentials of each users we want to move. Has anyone else moved in this direction or given thought to it? I would like to get rid of the file servers once and for all.

One issue I'm noticing, specifically for mobile devices, is that when powering up a device after sleep/hibernation you have to end the Drive Stream process and launch the app again. Not an issue for desktops, but definitely my mobile users. Anyone seen this issue or better yet have a fix?
