We are a secondary school and considering joining RM for our broadband using their SafetyNet filtering and hosted Cisco firewall. Any other users already with RM. How would you rate the connectivity, filtering and firewall? I see they also have transparent proxy for BYOD and it is coming soon for users too (March i believe) anyone using this? Is the service good? I have a webinar booked for SafetyNet but interested on getting some real world opinions. Thanks

Netsweeper with Schools Broadband
tj2419 replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Has anyone switched to Netsweeper and has Chromebooks working correctly? We move over in just over 4 weeks and reading this I'm a bit worried about our Chromebooks as we have quite a lot of them. Thanks -

Google IT Support Professional Certificate
tj2419 replied to Bob_the_Goon's topic in Courses and Training
What are peoples thoughts on the certificate from this? Is it going to be something a potential employer will see some value in or not worth it? Tempted to do it for something to add to my CV as I haven't got any "professional" qualifications in years. Cheers -

Ah yes, true. Just seems a pain to have to hunt them down when they turn 13. -
GDPR - Managing consents

Just a thought but could students sign the same form with a line saying something like "from your 13th birthday do you consent....."? -
GDPR - Managing consents
tj2419 replied to Jamman960's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Sorry to hijack the thread but it is on a similar topic. How are schools planning to obtain consent from students once they reach 13 years old? I know most data can be processed under public interest but I am thinking about their consent for photos to be used on the website or for marketing. -
Out of interest do you have staff emails in the contact group displayed as "Mr Jones" or "Ben Jones" for teachers? Thanks
-
I think in case there is ever any sort of allegation of inappropriate communication between staff and students. I have informed them that it will all be logged using a school system. But i think they want to avoid it in the first place and set up department email addresses that are then linked to the staff email addresses. Also they don't like the idea of students having staff email addresses.

It's something I'm an advocate of but our leadership are nervous about allowing 1:1 communication. So far it appears we are the only school that doesn't. 😂

Thanks for all the replies. Do you have any sort of automated monitoring in place? Weekly reports etc?
-
We have had a request from our sixth form that they be able to email teachers. I am interested to see how many schools allow students to email staff directly or what other methods you have put in place? Forums, shared mailboxes, etc Thanks
-
Yes, I've managed to get on ok.

I have a QNAP TS-853U-RP NAS where I have deleted 5 TB data off it but the space isn't showing as freed up. I have checked and emptied the recycling bin even though its not enabled. Anyone seen similar behaviour or know how to fix it? Thanks
