  1. We are using Trend Micro's cloud hosted option. Moved from Symantec to it. So far it's been a dream. Deployed just by allocating an MSI and all updates etc handled by them. It is now a default package on our machines when they build. Also offers ransomware protection too.
  2. Do you need a DPA for a company where you use their software but the data doesn't leave your servers? e.g. Capita SIMS. Their software manipulates the data but doesn't leave our server. Other cases such as 4Matrix. Software processes the data but doesn't leave our server?
  3. So is it literally just the APs and the cloud key? £3,700 seems incredibly cheap for a school-wide wifi network!
  4. We have a ZoneDirector 3050 with zf7363 access points. The 5 year support is ending soon. Another avenue we are looking at is to see if it is possible to extend support. With Ubiquiti is it literally buy the AP and it comes with the licences to use the cloud management? Just plug it into POE switch and away you go or are there extra licences or kit you need? Thanks
  5. We have 30 APs at the moment that is enough to give us whole site cover. Around 850 students. We are starting to go more and more google and introducing more Chromebooks also. Sixth form and staff also have access to BYOD network.
  6. We currently have a Ruckus wireless network that is coming to the end of its life. Which providers would you recommend? Unifi, Aerohive or stick with Ruckus? Is now the right time to go for cloud controller or do you still prefer to stick with an onsite controller? Just thinking out loud at the moment. Thanks
  7. Just touching back on the original point does anyone else have any other examples of how they are collating their information audits? I am about to start one for out ICT systems and looking for best practice on how to organise it and what information that needs to be collected. Thanks
  8. Sorry to hijack a thread but would a data processing contract be need for the likes of the IT help desk like fresh desk? As if, like many of us, we use the free edition would a company be likely to agree to a data processing contract if they are not getting paid? Also, what about the likes of tools/apps staff use like Trello or Evernote? Would DPAs be needed for them as well? As sometimes attachments are forwarded or uploaded to them. Is the onus on the data controller to produce a DPA or are the processors likely to have a standard one they use with many schools?
  9. I had an echo and echo dot and have just replaced them with Google Home and Mini. Google experience for me is way better. If you are using it with multiple people with different Spotify accounts, for example, Google will play must from your account when you ask but your wife's when she asks. With my echo, it was linked to one account so my wife kept nicking my music when I was at work and she was at home. The questioning with google seems much freer as well, being able to ask general questions and getting a response. Plus if you've got Chromecasts you can tell it to play Netflix on your living room TV and it will start playing. As for the "OK Google". My phone has to be unlocked to pick up the voice but even when I have been on my phone and asked google home to do something. The box pops up on my phone but then closes and does what I ask on google home. Don't know if it is coincidence or if they have something set up to recognise that situation.
  10. Are you planning on encrypting any onsite laptops or computers? Just thinking incase of a break in or something.
  11. We are looking at improving our practices with encryption with the upcoming GDPR changes. What do you guys do with regards to staff/students and USB drives? Do you encrypt pen drives? Ban them? Or just let staff use them as normal? If you encrypt them do you have a way to block drives that aren't encrypted? For laptops i am guessing windows 10 bitlocker is the best way to go forward. Do you have this setup on just staff laptops? Or all computers? Thanks
  12. Seem to have fixed it. The connect.ini file was locked in some way. Recopied some sims folders over and restart seems to have done the trick. Thanks anyway guys.
  13. Checked under Windows Logs > Application and cannot see any errors.
  14. Hi I have come in this morning to the majority of my staff not able to open sims. They click the shortcut and the SIMS icon pops up in the system tray and disappears really quickly. No error messages appear. I have a couple of staff on it, tends to be the ones who come in early. No updates were done or any changes to the network. Cannot get it to open on the actual SIMS server as it does the same thing there too. Any ideas? Or where to start looking? Thanks
  15. Great, thanks everyone that worked!
  16. That looks hopeful thanks. Just waiting to see if it takes effect now but they were all ticked allowing changes when I went on there. Thanks
  17. Yes using directory sync and salamander to organise groups and classroom etc. Hmmm.... Will keep looking
  18. Is there a way to prevent students changing their name on their GSuite account. We have a couple of students changing their names so when the teachers look at their classroom the students names are different. Oddly they still show up find in the admin console. They are going to My Account > Personal Info > Name and changing it here. Want to try stop it before it becomes widespread. Cheers
  19. Hi Is there a way to stop users being asked the question if they are a teacher or student in google classroom when they go on it for the first time? I'm guessing for staff i need to find a way to add them to the classroom_teacher group? What do you do for students? We have salamader. Is this something that Salamander can do for us or is there a way via GCDS? Thanks
  20. Yes, we do designed and updated all internally. We use Wordpress as well so it's quite quick to update. Only pain was getting it setup in the beginning. We still have it hosted externally though with our ISP.
  21. Thanks, couldnt find a definitive yes or no and I think that's sold me. Now to see if there's any black Friday deals on them. Thanks
  22. Tempted to get a Google home speaker but wanted to know from someone who has one. On the voice recognition does it pick up different Spotify accounts for the different voices? Or is there an easy way to switch between Spotify accounts? I've got an Amazon dot but each time I'm in work listening to Spotify and my wife puts it on at home it cuts me off my account. Cheers
  23. Might be worth checking it's definitely not installed. If you don't have the correct Microsoft c++ packages installed then the install shows has hanging/failed in the rmmc even when it has installed.
  24. We are trialing gsuite and Chromebooks with our staff to see if we want to 'Go Google'. I wondered if anyone has been down this path if you had any advice to share? Any tips on what to introduce first? Any documents you used for your roleout etc What features were big winners with staff. Thanks
  25. Sorry to wake an old thread but did you ever find a solution to this? I want users when they log into an AD machine to be logged into Google Chrome automatically. Cheers
