Happy Friday! This is a bit of a random one, but I am trying to get my hands on some old RM hardware; specifically a working Pentium 3 C-series PC, or Pentium class D-series PC. Do you specifically need to suspend the ability to receive mails into the mailbox, or just stop the user accessing it? If the latter, depending on your configuration, you can just disable them in the Office 365 Admin Portal.

Yes, you can just write a PowerShell script to read in from a file of passwords to set each user. You can also disable expiry, and I *think* (may not be true) you can override the "reset on next login" option.

You'll need to speak with LGfL on that one I'm afraid!

Or get rid of the on-premises mail requirement completely and move to a cloud service like Office 365, which is still Exchange but without the need for a chunky on-prem server, and all the storage and backup associated with it!

Microsoft is accredited to UK CESG OFFICIAL for Office 365 and is also certified ISO2001 and signed up to the EU Safe Harbour agreement.

I believe it launches later this year (December?) so best advice is to speak to your preferred licensing reseller and get the details from them. It'll probably follow the same as Student Advantage where you'll get the licences added to your EES or OVS-ES agreement and then activate it in Office 365 via a link or product key but your reseller should know for sure!

It's not going on the free plan. Office 365 ProPlus will be available to teachers under the same terms as Student Advantage; i.e. you'll have to cover all of your FTE staff for Office under your existing OVS-ES or EES agreement in order to qualify. So not free, "no additional cost"!

Just keep in mind that it can be a memory hog; if you have lots of users/changes etc. then it's best to keep it on a separate machine.
