Quick question. I understand the max. allowance per year is £20k. But can I open a two year fixed ISA before April and invest £20k (current tax year) and then open a 1 year fixed ISA in April and invest another £20k? I'd have concurrently more than 20k invested tax free but I'd only have opened one in each year so I'm guessing that's OK?

Do you mean just updating your base ISO? Or upgrading MDT?

Cloud migraton partner recommendations
kennysarmy replied to imtoooldforthissh's topic in Cloud Services
We have one school that's gone fully cloud in the Trust and the management of policies via Intune compared to on-prem group policies is, shall I say, challenging! We're planning to migrate another school's data to the cloud (SharePoint/OneDrive) in the next 6 months but we're leaving (for now) the PC's being managed by AD. -
Virtualbox + image for programming classes
kennysarmy replied to mwbutler's topic in How do you do....it?
So looks like students need to be able to run MSTC.exe which we have currently got locked down with AppLocker policies. What are the risks in allowing computing students to run the *.rdp files downloaded from https://labs.azure.com/virtualmachines ? -
Virtualbox + image for programming classes

Bit of a bump but we're looking now at Azure Labs. Just a quick question, once this is setup correctly is it simply a case of the students logging in via a browser or do they need some kind of RDP client? -

Imaging Windows 11 using un-edited ISO from Microsoft and a task sequence in MDT, PC is joined to the domain in the base "computers" folder. On logon by users we are seeing a strange font colour issue whereby the text is hidden on Explorer Menus. Anyone know if this is fixable via a Group Policy or why this might be happening? Cheers J

I've been asked to look again at a Sandbox environment with the reliability of Replit going a bit downhill :/ VirtualBox V7 has been installed on a Windows 11 23H2 Host and I've created a Win11 23H2 Guest VM, I've then added in the applications the computing department require and made the disk Immutable so that students cannot change the contents. What would be the procedure if I needed to make future changes? From the VirtualBox help files: Immutable images. When an image is switched to immutable mode, a differencing image is created as well. As with snapshots, the parent image then becomes read-only, and the differencing image receives all the write operations. Every time the virtual machine is started, all the immutable images which are attached to it have their respective differencing image thrown away, effectively resetting the virtual machine's virtual disk with every restart. Do I simply shutdown the VM. Release the differencing files attached to the main VM and remove the differencing file via the GUI Make the disk Normal again. Reattach the VDI file Boot up the VM, make the changes. Make the disk Immutable again. Is this the procedure everyone else follows to make updates? Cheers

Right clicking FOLDERS in your folder listings gives the option to add shared mailbox which is still working. -

[ms office - o365] Random issues with Shared Computer Activation!
kennysarmy replied to kennysarmy's topic in Office Software
Yes, we don't get issues anymore - the trick with redirecting the tokens to a central folder seemed to do the trick! -
Our Head of Computing has been using Firewalled Replit but is looking to move away from it due to reliability problems. Ideally he'd like us to install Python and a suitable IDE! What are the risks in doing this? He requires something good enough for the A-level curriculum. We used to have Oracle VM's installed on the PC's in his room - maybe we need to go back to that with immutable disks.

Just tested here. Just under 10 seconds when I open the application with my account. 35 seconds for the locked down / no internet exam accounts. Following thread with interest now. @ass17

We recently had to purchase 250 A3 licences at over £2500 per annum! But what can you do? - - - Updated - - - We had staff using MFA on A1, we needed A3 for retention polices.

Queried this with their technical support and this is the response. Thanks for reaching out. The URL that facilitates YouTube videos being embedded into PowerPoint is 'hubblecontent.osi.office.net' Currently this is added to the embedded content allow list on your filtering instance. What this means is that currently all embedded YouTube videos in PowerPoint will be allowed. The difficulty here is that this embedded content allow list is customer-specific and not user-specific meaning that it allows or blocks against a customer's entire filtering instance and it is unable to differentiate between Students and Staff. What this means is that we cannot change the use of YouTube on PowerPoint without affecting both Staff and Students. As we can't address this directly an option would be to have a YouTube link in the PowerPoint which opens in a new tab so that staff can view it but then students would be blocked.
