  1. So it's time I got moving on buying the server as the head keeps nagging me to spend the money before the accounts are closed end of February. The specs of the current server are in the first post but I'm unsure what to look for when browsing the web and don't get me started on the Dell site. The servers there have that many options you would think you are buying a battleship! I have up to £5K to spend and I would like the server to have around 4TB of storage in RAID 10 plus a spare drive. I've never used SAN or S2D so best to keep with what I know and use RAID. Warranty wise I would like a 5 year if possible. Any recommendations?
  2. I'm having problems getting Teams installed on the Fire 7 tab. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  3. I suppose it helps when your doctors have you down as a critical worker in the first place. My wife was in the doctors last week getting her flu jab (late I know) when an old chap walks up to the window and asks about getting the COVID vaccination. You can have it next Tuesday came the reply and books him in. After he leaves my wife asks at the window and puts us both on the critical worker waiting list as she works in a school too so without the doctors getting that information they don't know who is a critical worker and who is not and I doubt the NHS is going to ring round asking so best to get you name down. All in all I think I only got my appointment because they had places left to fill and I could get there for 8am.
  4. Just started setting up our 10 and it's asking for an Amazon login to register the tablet. Would it cause problems if I used 1 login for all tablets or do I need to make 10 Amazon accounts?
  5. I can beat that! My machine says 'You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.30866 (64-bit). It was last updated on 11/23/20.'
  6. Does anyone know what the latest version of Teams is? We appear to have 4 versions running here ranging from 1.3.00.28779 to 1.3.00.34662
  7. Just mild asthma which is why I was surprised when I got the call. I wasn't expecting to have the vaccination until next month at the earliest and when the doctors called they just asked if I was a critical worker and I replied 'yes I work in a school' and that was enough to book me in.
  8. The doctors called me over lunch yesterday asking if I was available to have the vaccination at 8am today. Bit surprised really as not that old but suppose older than most on EG at 56.
  9. Could you share the command to set this policy please? Being a primary we don’t get as much silliness but pupils have discovered they can mute the teacher unless this setting is changed.
  10. The update is not showing here, what classification is it under?
  11. Is there an easy way to remove flash as most of our classroom machines have flash NPAPI that was installed with activeinspire?
  12. I hadn't had time to take my coat off before 2 people asked me about it.
  13. Thanks John
  14. Our MS licensing period runs from 1 January to 31 December. I'm in the MS VLSC portal and have clicked on Licenses > Relationship Summary > clicked on current agreement number > Order Confirmation > Reseller Order Number. There are 3 part numbers and product descriptions listed which match what we ordered but the quantity and license count are both zero. Previous agreement numbers show the correct quantities. Searching through MS licensing emails I have 2 that are of interest. First one is 23/1/20 from EC VL Unified Notification with the usual info about the order showing the coverage period from 1 Jan until 31 Dec. The second email is 12/3/20 again from EC VL Unified Notification and looks almost identical to the first except in the quantity ordered column there is a minus sign next the the numbers. The help text says Digging on the internet shows the company we bought from was sold in February this year and Companies House shows the accounts overdue with 'active proposal to strike off'. We have done business with the original company for years so this comes as a surprise and now I'm getting worried thinking when the company was sold they cancelled our licenses and got a refund keeping the money. Can they even do that?
  15. I've added the new snip and sketch to the users taskbar and so far I've got which adds the app fine. When clicked the app starts but still needs the user to click new when I would like the app to start a new snip without waiting and the same as pressing the keyboard shortcut windows+shift+S. Has anyone got this working?
  16. @cullingsh Are you referring to this problem which Promethean say to use a third party driver with 2nd boards https://community.prometheanworld.com/forums/topic/update-activboard-100-300-ab500-firmware-now-released/
  17. Just as soon as the user is logged on they find the pen is not working. I find when the problem occurs the board LED is solid red.
  18. No problems at all with the 2nd gen boards just the 3rd gen with the pen not working.
  19. We still have a a few of the very old 2nd gen ActivBoards in school but both of the newer 3rd gen ABV378PRO have been having problems since the November windows updates. The older 2nd gen ActivBoards are still working fine but the 3rd gen boards have stopped working with the pen and the only way to fix it is to power cycle the PC and board as simply restarting the PC has no affect. After a power cycle the board works fine until the next day when another power cycle is needed. Win10 1909, drivers 5.18.19, connected by USB and ActivBoard firmware 8.04. Any advice?
  20. I'd never heard of S2D until now and had to look it up which shows one of the benefits of working in a primary . I think I'll be sticking with RAID for the time being, no point in upsetting the apple cart with unfamiliar technology.
  21. Cloud storage is something I've not started but is on my list. I think the most we have ever paid of the new server was £5000 but that was a few years ago. The DL380p cost us £1500 which I thought at the time was value for money.
  22. Thanks for the info. What RAID did you use on the SAS drives and I assume it was RAID 1 on the SSDs?
  23. I'm looking to spec up a new server to replace our ProLiant DL380p Gen8 that is running as VM host (9 VMs). It was bought in June 2016 from ICT Direct and all in all I've been very happy with it. It came with 3 years of HP warranty left on it which was useful as some of the HDs failed over the 3 years but HP sent new drives next day. The server has 2 X Xeon E5-2670 2.60GHz, 72GB memory and 2 X 146GB as RAID 1 for OS, 5 X 300GB RAID 5 for VMs and 1 300GB hot spare. There is 100GB free on the host but I want more storage this time around. I would like SSDs or a mix of SSD and spindle drives if cost is too high. If using SSDs would I RAID them as I've done in the past? HT wants to buy new to get a long warranty but at the end of the day it all comes down to budget so might end up buying used again.
  24. Try this. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/asnar-k-malware-exploits-firewall-zero-day-to-steal-credentials/
  25. Bit late in the day but https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/hackers-tried-to-use-sophos-firewall-zero-day-to-deploy-ransomware did an interesting write up on the incident with a great flow chart on how it was put together.
