  1. It's for a primary so supervision is not a problem and on this floor the MDF is through the hall and they wouldn't want lots of students off on a jolly collecting prints.
  2. I'm looking for a new colour printer for the IT suite. It will replace an old HP 3800 that is just about dead. I am getting prices for leasing and buying outright just need some recommendations on which printer to buy. We already have 3 MFD dotted around the school so don't need scanning capabilities in the suite.
  3. Thanks all. I'm not going to get involved in making policies, don't get paid enough for that but as I said in another post the school GDPR practice is very poor in my opinion. I've asked the question and been told to start with the deleted items folder and set the data retention policy to 3 years so I'll start with that.
  4. I'm looking for help with email retention policies and what other schools use. We are using 365 here and as it stands we don't have any retention policies set so all email is kept and I know some staff have emails going back 15 years including emails in their deleted items which is bulging under the weight of all that kept spam. What is the recommended length of time to keep emails and would this apply to all folders i.e. inbox, sent and deleted items? Finally, how long before deleting a mailbox for staff who leave the school? Thanks in advance.
  5. We’re going to be getting iPads next term and need something similar. Could I ask what mdm solution are you using? Sounds just what we’re after.
  6. What firewall are you using?
  7. We just have the one Yodeck running so bought the Raspberry Pi from Amazon and installed the software. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CanaKit-Raspberry-4GB-Starter-Kit/dp/B07XH3HWTQ
  8. We've got our 8 HP 255 laptops sitting here and I started looking at them today. I've not used any form of MDM before and reading through this thread seems to indicate that installing Office locally (that's when I have the admin password) will be a waste of time as it will be over written when MDM refreshes the laptop. Have I understood that correctly? If so the laptops might as well be released to students as they are. Edit: Further to the above. If I make changes to the local policy will the changes be overwritten too?
  9. I was told yesterday we would be getting 10 laptops that will arrive Monday. Didn’t know we were getting any till then.
  10. So the suite printer a HP 3800 is printing so badly no one can argue it's time to replace it and something I've been wanting to do for a long time. The 3800 is very old, not quite sure how old but I bet older than the year 6 pupils who are leaving next month. What we are looking for is something gives good cheap colour prints and should we buy outright or lease? Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks everyone. I'm still not 100% sure where to go from here so spoke to the deputy again about what they needed Skype for and they want to take part in a group chat with others from the LA. One to one chats were not really needed at this point. Looking in the Teams admin center / external access I've got both 'Users can communicate with other Skype for Business and Teams users' and 'Users can communicate with Skype users' enabled and nothing in domains so that should allow calls to or from all external domains if I understand it correctly. Sorry to sound like a broken record but with what we have already how would the deputy join the LA group meeting using Teams?
  12. Morning, Just had the deputy ask me to install Skype as their regular contacts at the LA used it. I installed it but get an error when signing in with a 365 logon Then the penny dropped that we already have Teams installed and I read Teams has replaced Skype so if that's correct no point installing Skype in the first place. So does Teams replace Skype and if how would one call someone not in the address book and can staff members be called by others outside the school? If that's not possible and Skype is indeed needed are Skype and 365 logons not connected meaning I need to setup Skype logons?
  13. When my broadband speed increased from 17Mbs to 72Mbs I thought the router was faulty as I couldn’t get faster than 24Mbs. Then I realised the laptop was only connected at 2.4Ghz. Replaced the WiFi card and speed shot up to 69Mbs.
  14. I’m with Plusnet and pay £35 for phone and broadband although we rarely use the phone. Speed is consistent 69Mbs and unlimited. I was with Virgin before Plusnet and although connection speed was good most of the time throughput was poor and constant problems with the Virgin proxy. Support was not the best either and Virgin never got to the bottom of why I couldn’t change my email password. I even gave them my current password to try themselves but they couldn’t change it either. So in a nutshell I’m paying more now with Plusnet but it’s reliable and trouble free. The Plusnet contract is up in July so I’ll look around but will probably try to get the price dropped rather than move ISPs.
  15. Yes but just the admin portal.
  16. By time the hotfix was installed it was too late, the buggers has already ran the SQL injection and compromised the firewall meaning the passwords had to be changed.
  17. Thanks everyone. We used Papercut NG many years ago but don’t use it anymore since staff got the message about wasting printing but I never looked into Papercut MF which looks good even if expensive. Being a primary with 3 MFD it may be overkill. Roughly how much is Papercut MF?
  18. But papercut won't do anything for logging copying which would need to be setup on the copier.
  19. Hi, hope you are all keeping well. I've been asked to change our copiers so they require a cost code before printing so admin can see who the biggest print users are. We are using a mix of Ricoh 5503 and 6503 copiers that are currently set to either hold print or locked print. How can I set the copiers to require the user to enter a code before the prints are released and also any copying would require the code entering too?
  20. I am looking to update our Unifi wifi which hasn't been updated in a very long time. The APs are AC-PRO running 4.0.54.10625, the controller is running 5.4.16 and 32bit Java 8.201 installed on the VM. The current controller release is 5.12.16. Is there anything I should look out for when upgrading or to upgrade in a certain way? Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks. My wife has an appointment with the occupation health tomorrow so I wonder what they will say.
  22. This whole thing is making me ill, not because I’ve caught it but because I’m not sleeping properly as I wake in the night worrying. I’ve got my 7 year old boy who has a chest complaint which makes him more likely to get pneumonia and so far he has had pneumonia 4 times all requiring a stay in hospital. My wife is a teacher in her late forty’s and is diabetic. She is just starting a phased return to work after a large operation. There still has an infection but doctors used antibiotics for 12 weeks and although it reduced in size it hasn’t cleared completely. Doctors think it will clear on it’s own over time but my wife is ok to return to work on light duty. This advice was given in January at the last meeting with the consultant. Then there’s me in my mid fifty’s and with asthma so if our household gets it we are in trouble.
  23. Do either of these require Apple Configurator or Apple School Manager when setting-up the iPads?
  24. It appears I spoke too soon. Just found Yodeck can read pdf, word, powerpoint and excel files so testing that now.
