  1. Some good points there, thanks. I've never seen a junction box like this before, I've got a connector that you crimp a plug on each end and join with a double ended socket but when time is money... I've a good mind to hand this to the site manager who dealt with the contractor that installed it. If they had checked the cabling with the proper tester in the first place the issue would have been spotted. Edit: The run is 5m more from where the photo was taken but to get back to the cab it runs through the roof space so a lot of work to pull a new cable through.
  2. I have a PC that keeps dropping its network speed from 1Gbps to 100Mbps and sometimes 10Mbps but the PC next to it is fine with a solid 1Gbps connection. I've done some fault finding by swapping the network cable with the cable on the next PC and pinpointed the fault to the connection. On the switch the connection takes much longer to establish with the LEDs going on and off a good while before settling down and then as said to a slower speed than the others. Last summer the room was refurbished and things were moved around so taking off the trunking cover and tracing the cables I find the cables have been extended by way of junction boxes. The junction boxes look ok with neat punch down connections and I can't see anything amiss apart from the divider is missing from part of the trunking run with the data and power cables crossing over each other. I've checked the cabling with a basic tester and all the connections are there but would this cable crossover be enough to cause noise in the data cables thereby reducing the speed?
  3. Before we migrated I asked DE about having 1 account per class and was told it is something they are working on but it sounds like you have already got there.
  4. I'm trying to bulk set users passwords for Discovery Education at a primary and I'm finding the given password length are far to long and even the passwords for year 1 and 2 pupils are 19 characters in length. I understand I could print QR codes that pupils could use but the school is using desktop machines that do not have a camera. An alternative would be to paste a password one at a time into the bulk password reset window but that would take ages. What do other schools use when setting up Discovery Education users?
  5. The old saying 'If it's not broken don't fix it' rings true with Inspire!
  6. Mainly because 2.21 removed the no flash warning. I know users can tick the box so it will not appear again but that wouldn't stop users panicking when they see the warning the first time.
  7. Afternoon all. We've been doing our own PAT testing in-house for about four years now for the simple reason the previous guys were a couple of con artists and they even got caught on CCTV just sticking labels on kit without testing or checking cables first. Of course they had to go and we find it better knowing things are tested properly now. Anyway, I've started getting emails for PAT test equipment that is 5th edition compliant as the regs are changing and requires a tester with a range different tests. I'm not too sure yet what is required but I understand server room racks now fall under the test as well as more paperwork. More info can be found here https://www.tester.co.uk/iet-code-of-practice-inspection-testing-of-electrical-equipment-5th-ed
  8. @phillyrovers thanks for the reply. It started last week after I moved from 2.19 to 2.21 and four teachers reported on the same day that Inspire would close on it's own. The one teacher I quizzed about it said simply switching applications caused the crash i.e. switching from inspire to check email. Rolling back Inspire to 2.19 has fixed the issue.
  9. Since upgrading Inspire to 2.21 numerous staff have reported Inspire has closed without warning. Nothing is showing in the event log so I assume this is a bug in the latest version of Inspire. Is anyone else getting this issue?
  10. @Steve21 Do you mean this The Dell R630 uses an S130 controller and I've followed the guide until 0:56 but there isn't any setting showing for NVMe under system BIOS setting and the S130 controller is not listing any drives. Maybe @ICTDirect_Dave could advise? RAID 1 would be good and RAID 10 even better
  11. I can't see the NVMe drives in the BIOS unless I'm looking in the wrong place but I can see the 4 drives in disk manager so I know they are there. Please could you elaborate how I would do this please?
  12. Update: In the end we went for the Dell 630 from @ICTDirect_Dave because of the increase of speed NVMe would give us but I'm struggling to configure RAID on the NVMe. The SAS drives are easy to RAID using the PERC controller but the NVMe drives are not connected to the PERC so I'm lost. Any advice?
  13. Promethean have released a new version of ActiveInspire (2.21.69365) that does not have the no flash warning. https://support.prometheanworld.com/activinspire-download-en-gb
  14. I do not have iTunes on my PC and could access the photos just fine.
  15. Not sure if this is a windows problem or an IOS, please move if needed. Head showed me his laptop that cannot connect to his iphone via USB to access photos. On the laptop when connected to the iphone the USB device icon in the system tray flashes on and off continuously. In settings / bluetooth & other devices, the iphone appears and disappears continuously. The iphone works fine when connected to another PC. On the iphone I have reset location and privacy settings. Any ideas?

    Dead Smart UPS

Check everything now and it's still dead. Time for a new UPS I think.
  17. At the moment we are just starting with iPads and looking to have two class sets, one for KS1 and another for KS2. There may be more at a later date but I don't think that will be this year.

    Dead Smart UPS

Does the UPS have a fuse apart from what's in the power lead as I can't see any?

    Dead Smart UPS

I've taken APC Smart 1500 UPS out of storage and it appears completely dead. No power lights, no nothing. Is there anyway to test what might be wrong?
  20. We looking how other schools store and charge their iPads. We have 32 iPads still in boxes and looking to buying another 32 sometime soon. At a previous school we used small cabinets which held 10 iPads each and seem to remember these cabinets cost £500 each. Are charging trolleys the way forward or would we be better building some sort of racking? Thanks in advance.
  21. We have been given a stack of 32 iPads that I need to setup and as it's been years since I worked on IOS I'm more than a bit rusty. In another thread it was mentioned I needed a DEP code to add the iPads to an MDM. Is this still the case and if so where would I get the DEP code from?
  22. I have and also looked at the HP 360 that @ICTDirect_Dave has. Both have enough storage although the Dell 630 would run the VMs very much faster because of the NVMe, but I have a feeling the Dell 630 is somewhat overkill. I suppose in the end it comes down to how much budget you have.
  23. @mikemcsharry Amazon is really getting under my skin ATM as I'm making new accounts, one for each tab and Amazon is wanting to add a mobile number for each one and it will not let me use the same mobile number saying the number exists with another account!
  24. This is strange. I just updated the OS and it's now running Fire OS 4.5.5.3 so a long way off 7.2. I was given the tabs from the HT and was told an estate agent donated them. They are all new and in unopened boxes.
  25. I've got the Fire 7 working now but the Fire HD is not playing ball. When I try to install the .apk file it errors out saying the file cannot be parsed. I'm following this guide https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/
