I think it comes under the heading of job creep as we have started maintaining them already.
-
Didn't know you could do that.

I've done the factory reset and the firmware update but still the same. I've already told the head it needs replacing so it's at his door and I'm not that bothered if it stays blurred as I don't fancy changing it anyway.

Thanks for all the advice. @Jamman960 It looks like TSOHost is going to close our webservice anyway as there was a notice when I logged on to the domain DNS. They haven't started sending out emails yet but the info is here https://help.tsohost.com/knowledge-base/article/13775 Office 365 didn't make it clear where I could setup DNS but I did find an error showing on the DNS checker page with one of the SVR records. I spent some time back on TSOHost trying to get that right until I realized I didn't need to enter the underscore as it was done automatically. Cloudflare looks good and I've started the free service. I've entered all the DNS records, just need to change the name server back at TSOHosts to point to Cloudflare but wanted to ask here first if it's recommended I transfer the domain to Cloudflare or leave it with TSOHosts even if we no longer use them, ie. in years to come could I ask TSOHost to transfer the domain? Are there any costs involved to transferring our domain name (.sch.uk) to Cloudflare?

We have been using Vidahost aka Tsohost for our web and DNS hosting for a good few years but now the head has bought into Primary Site and we have had the new website running for a month. Vidahost is paid up until the new year and they still provide DNS hosting but the head is not going to pay to renew Vidahost just so they can continue to host the DNS. Primary Site has offered to take over DNS hosting but I will not have any control over it which comes in really handy sometimes. How do other schools handle their DNS hosting? Is there anything free but still good?

New Sophos XG Firewall Nightmare
Jobos replied to Wirral_Wonderer's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Good offer there and I would say what @Wave9_Lee doesn’t know about XG isn’t worth knowing. -
I thought it might need replacing but in our case there isn't any support so it will be me up a ladder

We are running our CCTV using Hikvision NVRs and Hikvision dome cameras mostly DS-2CD2155FWD-I. Since spring one of the outdoor cameras has gone out of focus which I thought was because rain had got inside the camera and fogged the cover but after removing the cover no moisture was found and even with the cover off the image is still blurry. Is there any control over the focus as I'm unable to see any adjustment inside?

Looked at screen time which is why I thought a 3rd party app would have remote lock.

Asking for a friend. Their child has an iPhone and they would like to setup parental control to limit how long their daughter can use the phone but also remotely lock the phone when the daughter misbehaves. I’ve looked at the Apple parental control https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201304 but I couldn’t see anything about the remote lock so perhaps there is an app that would achieve this. I have an iPhone and my daughter an android and I use a Google app on both phones called Family life and that works great.

I have already found that access to our Orbtalk VoIP portal stopped working when I turned off TLS 1.0.

Just going through GP and see we still have SSL 3.0 enabled. Am I right in thinking SSL 3.0 is deprecated and should be disabled and the only protocols that should be enabled is TLS 1.2? Thanks

Spot on! I don't know what PVID is but thank you, that fixed it.

I've been asked to give the kitchen manager internet access so they can use a non domain laptop but as the wifi is poor in that room we have had a network point fitted. Now I'm trying to configure the switch so the network point can only connect to the guest network. The guest network works fine under wifi but using a PC I'm not getting an address. We have 2 VLANs, default VLAN 1 and guest VLAN 30. The switches as a follows with the kitchen connected to port 3. HP 1910 Unifi AP port 1, untagged VLAN 1, tagged VLAN 30 Kitchen port 3, untagged VLAN 30 port 48 is connected back to core, untagged VLAN 1, tagged VLAN 30 The Sophos XG handles DHCP for the guest network and under wifi the address should be 192.168.1.x but when connecting my laptop to port 3 the address is 169.254.70.20. I've tried tagging and un-tagging port 3 but it makes no difference as the address I get is always 169.254.70.20. Any advice please?

We use a Raspberry Pie and Yodeck which is free for the first screen and really easy to setup. https://www.yodeck.com/

Not so much as what items need testing but listed from what voltage to test so I don't test laptops just the charger and cable.

That all changed last year when the 5th edition of the regs came out, now fixed appliances fall under the remit of the test so hand dryers in toilets for instance would need testing. This https://www.nationalsafetyinspections.co.uk/blog/changes-to-pat-testing-5th-edition-cop explains some of the changes although best to get a copy of the regs https://www.amazon.co.uk/Practice-Inspection-Electrical-Equipment-Regulations/dp/1785619667

Been PAT testing today or should I say electrical equipment testing. I had just finished the room and as I was leaving I glanced up to see a desk fan fitted about 2.5m up and hard wired what looks like into the mains. Following the conduit it joins a double socket but there is no sign of any isolating switch or fuse so I don't know if it should fail just because there is no way to isolate it?

We have 22 Hikvision cameras feeding into 2 NVRs and if the ban goes through it will make getting replacement cameras a problem. Are there other makes of cameras that are compatible with the Hikvision NVR?

I've installed the home version and it's runs ok speed wise but the touch screen is not recognised and nether is the detachable keyboard. The Linx 1010 are not in the list of certified models so it was a long shot but nothing lost.

Try using NOT instead of <> Select * From Win32_ComputerSystem Where NOT Name like "COMPUTER"

Thanks for the advice. Not come across Neverware before, any idea of the cost as I can't see it listed on their website?

We have a stack of old Linx 1010 windows tablets that are taking up space and I would like to either wipe and recycle or somehow use. For those who have not had the pleasure of working with these devices they are a 10" tablet using the Atom CPU Z3735F @ 1.33GHz, 2GB ram and 32GB storage. If we go down the recycle route what would be the best way to wipe them? Thanks.

Thanks both. I disabled the updates in WSUS but the task still failed so next I updated the BIOS from 1.03 to 1.04 and ran the task again but this time it completed just fine. The readme with the BIOS update says the changes are to optimize the smart fan curve but guess there is more to it than just the fan. Thanks again.

I have been using MDT for the past few years and it's worked really well but just lately it's started playing up in a strange way and I can't find the same issue on google. MDT is on a VM running server 2019 and I've just updated the images from 1909 to 21H2. I kept the same task sequence just changed what OS to install. This works fine when I image an old Acer E5-571 that I use for testing, the image deploys, windows installs updates from WSUS, apps deploy, windows updates runs for the last time and it done. The problems start when I try to image a Dynabook Satellite Pro C50 which were bought in 2020. When we got them I didn't have time to make a new image so I used the 1909 image that I already had and it worked fine but now I want to go straight into 21H2 which is causing me problems. When I image the Dynabooks MDT gets as far as windows updates then hangs at a blank window. The monitors page in MDT reports the status as failed at 63% complete. None of the apps deploy and WSUS says the Dynabook is waiting to report. I can manually run windows update by mapping a drive to MDT and running the command 'cscript ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf' which pulls the updates from the WSUS server and they install fine. WSUS now looks correct and says no updates are needed. Right or wrongly I installed KB4564442 on the MDT server hoping that would fix it but still the same https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/windows-10-deployments-fail-with-microsoft-deployment-toolkit-on-computers-with-bios-type-firmware-70557b0b-6be3-81d2-556f-b313e29e2cb7 I've spent a lot of time on this but getting nowhere and any pointers would be appreciated.
