I've found the 'Delete All' method slows logins, as your re-installing printers you just deleted a lot of the time (Especially if you have follow me printing). We deploy the printers based on rules (Location, member of etc). Then copy that printer and open up the properties. Change your 'If' statements to 'If Not' and set it to delete. That way, you only delete a printer if the rules no longer match (IE student logs in, staff printer is removed). Makes logins a while lot quicker.

Try to break the software & hardware link. We're using Prowise Presenter which is a web based IWB software package, and thus isn't licenced per board (We have a site licence). This means we can purchase the cheapest good quality boards at the time we're looking. As many will point out, not many staff use IWB software any more, most use online tools and Office.

I got stuck at this stage as well. You need to import the UE-V templates. Have a look here: UE-V Windows 10 1607 Powershell and UE-V Template share – CCMEXEC.COM – Enterprise Mobility Powershell command: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/uev/register-uevtemplate?view=win-mdop2-ps I do this as a MDT task importing all the ones I need, but for testing you can do it on your machine then try again.

We purchased a bulk of asset stickers from customlabels.co.uk. Good company to work with and the stickers are 'Ultra Destruct'. Means they flake off rather than peel. Students can remove them over a few lessons rather than a single one. You can slow them down but you'll need to re-label at some point.

NRS here and as above, support is very hit and miss. Very costly support and if your not careful they will charge for calls out because the issue is intermittent (IE it didn't fail for the 30 minutes they were here). The system seems overly complex for what is it making it very hard to solve problems without the hit and miss support. And XP tills installed in 2014 for me is a big mistake.

I believe it is but Windows 10 has the client built in so you don't need to use the client from this if your using Windows 10. You only need the template creator if required from the above ISO.

GDPR and Swipe/ID cards
robyholmes replied to E_G_R2's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Our cards have school name and student name only. No photo for this reason. Staff ID however does but I believe the 'breach' is only reportable if you believe harm or negative is impact possible to the individual/s of which the data concerns. -
It does seem to be performing better now I've re-installed the OS. I've checked the controller policy as we do have battery backup on the card. Read Policy: Adaptive Read Ahead Write Policy: Write Back I've checked these against Dell's guidance and they seem to be the best options for our use as a Hyper-V host. Thanks for checking the numbers.

Perfect! Our staff love this software but I think I might love it even more. Well done!

Would it be possible to include an option to set a password on exit. Some of our students are closing the program and playing with whatever they can find. The account is locked down but it would be nice to keep them in the software.

EDIT: Just completed some more tests on other servers and I'm closer than I thought. So maybe there isn't an issue. Just like someone to confirm these look normal.

Hi All, We have a Dell PowerEdge R430 which we use as a Hyper-V host. Recently its been causing problems which I'm thinking are disk performance related. I asked Dell to check the hardware and logs sometime ago and they turned up nothing. So after more problems recently I've taken the server out of action and re-installed the OS to provide a clean test bed. I'm running Windows Server 2016 now. The server specs are these: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2623 V3 3Ghz 64 GB RAM PERC 730 Mini 3x 1.2TB 10K 2.5 Drives The drives are setup in RAID 5 to provide just over 2TB of storage space. The virtual disk is then split in to 100GB of OS with the rest of VM storage. I've run CrystalDisk Mark on the server both before and after drives. Before Drivers After Drivers I'm concerned about the 4K Read speeds. These seem very low compared to my other servers and compared to the write speeds. I just want to confirm I'm not going mad so I can go back to Dell with this issue.

We use the users home drive (Well, folder redirected drive now). We have a central locations for templates but as yet not needed any 3rd party ones.

Be aware you need to block the modern apps via App Locker as well as EXE's. You'll need to allow User Shell for the start menu to work. We found the log off and shutdown buttons don't work unless you allow the settings apps as well. As our students don't log off at the end of the exam themselves we left it blocked. Ctrl+Alt+Del still works so staff will use this.

[1703, cu] AppLocker - Lock, log Off, Shutdown etc not working
robyholmes replied to robyholmes's topic in Windows 10
Your right with the 'Immersivecontrolpanel'. Would you believe it, the log off and shutdown menu on the start menu is the settings app! So as we don't want them playing with settings during an exam we've kept it blocked and we'll show the invigilators how to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to log off. -
[1703, cu] AppLocker - Lock, log Off, Shutdown etc not working
robyholmes posted a topic in Windows 10
I'm trying to setup some exam accounts to be used on our Windows 10 1703 Image. I'm using AppLocker to limit the apps running and managed to get the start menu working by allowing a modern app (UserShell). However the log off, lock button and the shutdown, sleep, restart button doesn't work. You click on it and nothing opens. I've tried looking through the AppLocker log but can't spot what it is. Anyone else found this? -
AXE sorted me out in the end. Maybe send a PM?

Pearson CIDA - Adobe Photoshop & Creative Cloud

Anyone running this course? -
Hi All, I'm still not able to deploy this as I can't use SCCM (Just not got the resources to set it up). I'd like to App-V it as we're using that for a lot of our software on our Windows 10 image but it errors as soon as you try and run the App-V'd package. Anyone managed it? Or does anyone have another method to try? Looking like I'm going to have to dedicate an afternoon to updating the damn thing everything they release a new version.

Hi All, I'd like to know if your schools run the Pearson CIDA course for IT? If so do you use Adobe Photoshop via Adobe Creative Cloud suite? Or do you use another program? We're being asked to look at purchasing it but I'm trying to avoid it. Thank you

App-V - Arduino Network Failure Error
robyholmes replied to robyholmes's topic in Enterprise Software
Repackaged the app and the error has been resolved. Not sure how it could be some random in nature but there we go! My memory did not serve me well as I thought I'd already re-packaged it! -
Hi All, Has anyone managed to successfully sequence Microsoft Web Expression 4? I've managed to sequence it but when deployed it crashes when ever a non admin account tries to 'Browse' to files in any location. Admin accounts work fine. Running the app as admin on a none admin account works as well (Not unsurprisingly). I've done a quick test of a locally installed copy of the problem and it doesn't appear to have the same fault, but need to re-run this test on another machine to be sure. Anyone got this working? Thanks, Rob

Hi All, We're starting to deploy Windows 10 and moving to App-V for application management. I've managed to package Arduino but we're getting an error on our test machines but I can't work out any pattern. This is the error: My tests are showing this: Test Laptop adminsetup - Error teststaff - Error teststud - Opens Fine Test Desktop adminsetup - Error teststaff - Opens Fine teststud - Opens Fine Both machines are built from the same Windows 10 image. We use local profiles and clearing the profiles makes no difference. At first it was just one staff member using the test laptop above who had the error. All other accounts I tested worked fine. We re-imaged the laptop and got the above results. The result is always the same, clearing profiles, documents etc makes no difference. I've tried re-moving the App-V package from the client and getting App-V to refresh, this again made no difference. My next step is to re-package it again. I think I've done this already but lost track so I'm going to do it again. However I thought I would put it out to you guys as well to see if anyone else had managed to App-V Arduino with success? Thanks, Rob
