Adobe CC - not loading - Initialising Panels
robyholmes replied to sonie's topic in Educational Software
We had the same. We had AppData redirected, had to change to local AppData. Now its causing black screen on login issue. Stopping it running on startup so far has stopped that issue. Adobe support completely useless. -
Using Skype For Business here for sharing teachers display with students devices. For us its to laptops but same would work for iPad. It also means the teacher can pick the application they want to present rather than the full screen.

Struggling to find a way of showing you it, especially as we've removed all but one of our 'By Department' printers now for MFDs. This screenshot shows the item level targeting for the 'Update' action on printer HT-Epson. Once you have this setup you make a copy with a lower order number (Although it shouldn't matter). Change the action to delete and change the 'Is' to 'Is not' in item level targeting. Repeat the process for as many printers as you need. The idea is your only deleting a printer if someone doesn't have access. As most people use the same machine day in day out you'll only rarely delete a printer. Hence logins are quicker most of the time.

In house here, couldn't be without it. All our students (Secondary no sixth form) have ID's. So as you can guess we have a number of them who lose them. Students pay for replacement cards which covers the cost.

Another vote for Azure. Plus you get access to Azure Backup Server (DPM) which allows up to 30 days of local backups for no extra cost.

Server Reconfigure - Best Options?
robyholmes replied to robyholmes's topic in Learning Network Manager
No offers anyone? Not sure if that's good or bad. -
Thank you, I'm sure I got it off someone else on here but its worked well for a number of sites I've worked at. Its amazing how fast logins speed up as well if you have a lot of printers.

Hi All, I'm got multiple problems with my current server configuration and I'm looking to re-configure it to hopefully solve these. First, this is the current setup: 2x Host Servers (Data Center licences and multiple VMs) 1x Host Server (Standard licence running a SIMS VM & some test clients) 1x Physical File Server (Standard licence) 1x Physical DC (Standard Licence) The issues I have with this setup are: Host Servers using Hyper-V replication which often stops, fills up the disks and all the VM's pause The physical file server was syncing to a VM file server using DFSR but its screwed up and won't repair. I get the feeling the physical file server is at fault The servers specs are: Host A - Dell R430, 2x Intel E5-2623, 64GB RAM, 3x 1.2TB SAS 10K in RAID 5 - Server 2016 Data center Host B - HP SE316M1, 2x Intel X5650, 48GB RAM, 2x 150GB SAS 10K in RAID 1 & 6x 300GB SAS 10K in RAID 5 - Server 2012 R2 Data Center Host C - Dell R420, 1x Intel E5-2420, 16GB RAM, 5x 300GB SAS 15K in RAID 5 - Server 2012 R2 Standard File - Dell R420, 2x Intel E5-2407, 16GB RAM, 2x 140GB SAS 15K in RAID 1 & 3x 1TB SAS 7.2K in RAID 5 - Server 2012 R2 Standard DC - Dell R210 II, Intel E3-1220 V2, 8GB RAM, 2x 300GB SAS 15K in RAID 1 - Server 2012 R2 Standard We have 14 VM servers running various roles, with one exam server which only gets switched on during the exams. Our two host servers cope with these fine. School is a very small secondary school with around 300 students. So we're not dealing with very high loads. I'd like to hear you thoughts on how best to setup the above. I'll give you might first thoughts: First I thought Storage Spaces Direct would suite nicely, but we don't have 10Gbps cards or matching storage drives. So I started to look at Storage Replica, which it seems is replacing Hyper-V replication and DFSR? I might be wrong on that front but from a bit of reasearch last night that's the feeling I got. With Server 2016 it requires a datacenter licence which would cause us a problem but 2019 is set to bring it to Standard as well. With some limits but we fit inside these. So I'm thinking: Host A & Host B are setup with storage replica to sync all the VM's between both hosts. File & Host C both become phsyical file servers using storage replica to hold all our data. DFS means clients can use either server. DC says as is. We wouldn't get automatic failover on the VMs, but we don't have that now and we can't archive it without a lot more investment. So let me have your thoughts? Would this work or do you have a better idea? Thanks, Rob

I've not had problems with installing printers by GPP, but have come across issues if you use the 'Delete All' first. Its better to create two preferences for each printer if you need to target it. One using 'Update' with a item level target set to 'If this = this'. Then copy & paste that, change the action to 'Delete' and change the If statement to be 'If Not'. It adds the printer if true and removes it if not. Saves removing it each time only to add it again. Makes logins a whole lot quicker too.

Hi, I'm trying to image some laptops which have a 60GB or 64GB SSD installed with our new Windows 10 image. However I'm getting stuck just before the OOBE with a 'Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer’s hardware". If I replace the SSD with a larger 120GB version it will image fine. Which to start with suggested a 60GB SSD formatted wasn't big enough, but once everything is installed Windows reports around 30GB usage on the larger SSD. So I can see if being a storage space issue but could be wrong. Any ideas? This is happening on multiple machines but always with the 60 or 64GB SSD's. Thanks, Rob

Duplicate IP address? Either between phones or phone & switch?

Hi All, I have a very odd issue with a PC we're trying to use for our school hall. The PC display is a 1920x1080 display, the projector is a 1920x1200 display but copes with 1080 fine. The PC display is a touch screen and it works fine if the projector isn't connected or the PC is in extended mode. However as soon as you duplicate the display at 1920x1080 the touch calibration is out. The touch is bellow your finger at the bottom, and above your finger at the top if I remember right, the middle is about right. This suggests it thinks the display is 1920x1200 but its set to 1080 when I look in display settings. I've tried calibrating the touch using the built in Windows Touch PC tools but when calibrating it doesn't register your touch as it thinks its outside the 'working' area. IE you click in the top left but it thinks you clicking above the display, hence its not registered. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do, I've tried changing resolutions and swapping the display cables around (Switching which is display 1) but nothing seems to solve it. Any advice? Thanks, Rob

VeryPc - Hardware supplier recommendation
robyholmes replied to MrGAWilson's topic in Recommended Suppliers
Another very happy customer of VeryPC having dealt with Colin & Ross. Always helpful and like others have said can get you what you want, rather than what's currently on special offer. I'm even waiting on kit from them now! -
We've just installed a Hitachi 5000 LED lumen projector, with a rear projection screen (4 meters wide). We're using it for Drama backdrops etc as well as normal hall use. It has built in HDBase-T which means you just need a transmitter to get your signal too it. Tested this over rubbish old network cables across school and it worked perfectly. Installed new CAT6 cables in the hall and its never failed.

Just to say thank you very much as others have said, but also +1 for the above. We would also like a spell checker & grammar option. Look forward to seeing it when you have the time.

Can you break the footage down in to images, then just do those? -
Electronic Document Storage solutions

I look at mStore a number of years ago with another school and didn't like the look of it. Client based with no cloud access (At least a number of years ago it didn't) and it only seemed to tag documents. Something you can easily do in SharePoint. So we developed SharePoint which should cover everything you need. It just takes a bit of setting up. The issue is getting staff to fill in the information required for these types of retentions, look ups etc to work. -
Interesting, I guess that's out the window then. Roaming profiles has already gone out as well so now what? UE-V doesn't include everything in AppData, or doesn't with my testing anyway.

Face meet palm is all I can say to that! I blame Microsoft, normally you need to use Powershell to extract something, then combine it with another program, then covert it with something else before crossing your fingers while it builds your image. I didn't expect them to make it as easy as a drop down to pick your language. Thank you!

I've currently got issues with my Windows 10 image of it picking en-US over en-GB. MDT is set to configure en-GB but I'm wondering if the language pack isn't in the ISO. I can't see any different versions when on VLSC, does the normal ISO include en-GB or do I need to download and install the Language Pack ISO as well?

No, I've not called the company in the last couple of weeks so might be worth a call, see if they have a better ETA than just 'Soon'. -

Maglocks on behaviour corridor with break glass
robyholmes replied to WorksOnMyPC's topic in Physical Security
Our doors are released by the Paxton software in the case of a fire, but we still have 'break glass' releases on each door. This have alarms on them and operate an input on the Net2 controller. A rule then is configured to send an email to facilities, IT and student support staff if the emergency exit button is pressed. We also have rules were by students leaving during lessons are let out, but emails are sent to support staff so they can make a judgement about it. Our site and locations means we can't have a closed site (Fencing etc) but we're split building. So keeping track on students leaving site is difficult and this helps.
