Whats your procedure for allowing guests on your network
robyholmes replied to maxrebo's topic in Wireless Networks
VLAN for guest network (And isolated between clients). If they need access to school devices then we create a Visitor AD account which is locked down with no network drive access. Each visitor has an account made for them so our Smoothwall logs have their name in them. If you have multiple visitors on site and only use one account then you can't say who did what. -

We only use it for the design stage and have a program called 'Aps-Ethos' for the cutter itself. -

Using Inkscape here, our DT teacher is very happy with it and it costs nothing. -

No DVI or DisplayPort on it? -
Secondary here and we don't, just offices and staff room. We have one in the DT store which is more for safety and one in the science prep room, again more for safety.

Yes I agree, unless the cable itself is faulty, which should be easy to test and I would hope they have already done this. Then changing it for another method isn't going to solve it. All it does is give the alarm companies another person to blame, you.

It just begs the question why they can't get them to talk to each other? The simplest way to connect them would be via a relay and one wiring coming between them. Can you get a cable between building or are you looking for a network route because that's the only connection going between buildings?

Autodesk Fusion 360 Verifying student account
robyholmes replied to Thants's topic in Educational Software
We're in the same position. Our DT teacher has found that using Chrome rather than Edge seems to have better results but I've not idea why. He's been telling Fusion 360 support for over a year now and they admit its a problem but don't want to fix it and just close the ticket. Recently a scheme he's involved in have partnered with Autodesk to get younger students using Fusion 360. He's contact them to advise them that 'Announcement' they've made is flawed for two reasons, you need to be 13 to have an account and you can't get educational accounts even if you do register. I've not heard yet if they've got back to me on that one. -
Second Monitor keeps flashing black to try to work out resolution
robyholmes replied to techguy1991's topic in Windows 10
Do you find this happens with Edge open? We did on machines which have a Q35 or Q45 chipset. If you can find the latest driver it'll replace the one Windows try's to install and that seems to solve it. I have a copy of the Q35 and Q45 driver if you need it, PM me.- 7 replies

Long rooms are sometimes an issue. We've gone with 65" throughout but I can see a need for 75" or even 85" if you have large rooms. Its just waiting for the price on these to drop. Its not dropped that far as most home users don't want a TV larger than 65".

Have they even used one? This is very surprising as our staff love them. Maths staff were the most worried by the move but they've now come round to the idea. A lot of companies offer demo's and this is how we introduced a lot of staff to touch screens. We had a few over a few weeks in our staff room and each lunch time I would go down, log it on and let staff have a play.

Purple and yellow 'Blobs' are often dust on the lens inside the projector. You have a few choices: - Send it away for cleaning - Clean it yourself - Replace We avoid option 1 and 2 as 1 is expensive and you have mixed results. 2 is complex and often results in other issues once you start taking it apart. Replacing it ideally with a touch screen is the best long term option but you need the funding to do it.

Lampless LED / Laser projectors are a much better option. However have you thought about moving to Touch Screens now rather than projectors? We're buying 65" displays for around £1300 at the moment and staff love them compared to the IWB & projector combo.

New broadband Supplier
robyholmes replied to Theldron's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Exa here but only for the connection not filtering (UTM Smoothy for that). Connection works perfectly so hardly ever have to call support. -
Any boxes around or in the ceiling with the control board in itself? Hopefully with the name on it.

We work ours in credit. So each half term the HoD gets an email stating how much they have, what they spent and how much they have in their main budget. They then reply with how much they want to put on printing. Really makes them think when they see all the costs in one place. And when they run out they have to go to finance to ask for more.

Don't suppose your bill is due any time soon?

Just adding that I've had one ap of our 13 Nano HDs disconnect since September. Otherwise they seem to be fine. Can any of yours disconnect or just certain ones? Have you tried a newer one or moving them around?
