As a school looking at changing MIS. We would want a MIS that used our existing Office 365 MFA. I just don't think we could launch a new MIS with another MFA provider. If you have a login to Office 365, you also have access to all the information saved outside the MIS. That's just as important as the MIS information so protect both with the same system and make sure that system is a full proof as it can be.

You can do 50 if you manually pick them after the first 20.

We've gone down the route of having a guest account per visitor so we can track web usage and provide BYOD wireless using Radius. So I'd need to assign licences (Which can be done via Azure) to new visitor accounts but I'd need it to have synced before they can login. However staff don't tend to let me or the office know in advanced which doesn't help. Hmmm, shame BDA isn't allowed for OVES customers! Not sure what Microsoft are thinking there.

Do you use fingerprints? We had loads of issues with the bio database not working or being slow. You need to restart IIS on the server then rebuild the database file in the NRS software. In the end, we moved to ID cards and it's a lot quicker. Not full proof as, as you've pointed out, they make things far more complex than they need to be.

Hi All, I'm starting to test Office 365 desktop software and I can't get my head around quite a simple issue. So for a bit of background, we're starting to use Team Sites for document storage so I hoped a move to Office 365 which allow staff and students easier access to team sites. It certainly does support this. We run local accounts and our users and devices and all AD Joined / Synced. So I login to the machine with Office 365 installed as a test student. Open Word and on the first page, after a couple of seconds it automatically logs in, thus licencing the software. All good so far. However if I go to open I get the old open and save menu. It takes a few more seconds to add OneDrive & SharePoint but once added I can only browse our SharePoint sites. Not Teams. However, if I then close Word and re-open it. I get a new interface and when you click on 'Open' you get the newer open menu where teams are displayed, as shown here: https://teams.rocks/2018/01/11/save-directly-to-teams-from-office-desktop-apps/ So each time a student logged in, they would need to open Office twice before they could open or save to Teams? (If the account wasn't cached, which is possible here but unlikely) Is anyone else finding this an issue? Thanks

So I've deployed the software using the Shared Computer Activation method but I'm concerned that this means any visitor accounts we create who don't have emails and thus, licences can't use office. How are people getting around this issue? I had hoped that once office was activated it would stay like that for x amount of days, meaning less chance of a visitor getting the requested login for a licence. However it looks to ask every time. I could give visitors a Office 365 licence using the Student one but I don't really want to be managing emails for them etc. Is this what other people are doing?

We've raised tickets yes and get told one of two things: Accounts dont exist Or We can't activate accounts it's automated They did admit at one point the procces isn't perfect but couldn't say when it would be better.

Even a simple 'Pre-authorise' system would be good. IE anyone with a @schooldomain.com is education. Would you say that your college students register at home or at college? Our current theory is because students are registering at school, all the accounts are made using the same IP address and this causes the system to reject the accounts. If students sign up at home we seem to have less problems. But its not a very good solution as a lot of students simply won't do it out of lesson.

We use Xibo and V2 has really helped with an easier layout editor. However a lot of our content is pulled from the school website. We have a WordPress website which staff can submit posts too (News) and our head approves. Once on the website, it shows on the digital displays as we iframe (Using Xibos built in tool) a page from the website. The page has the header removed so only the content we want to display is shown. These pages are public but not shown in the website navigation. Along with some RSS tickers for events and Datasets for day periods, weeks and assemblies and you end up with a very nice display system which is easy to keep updated. The hardest bit with Xibo is working out Docker! Go with a Linux VM for this I find.

Hi All, I'm posting really on behave of my DT teacher who has been a big advocate of Autodesk's Fusion 360 software. However for quite sometime now he's been having problems with students registering educational accounts. Accounts either don't register or more commonly, expire after 30 days and completing the 'I'm an educational user' doesn't work. We've been to Autodesk Support various times about this and each time get told accounts don't exist (When they do) or that the issue is out of there hands. This has come to a head now as we're doing for a few accounts which are working, but Autodesk have decided to introduce a new measure to stop you logging in to Fusion in multiple places with the same account. Meaning we're down to using one of two computers at a time! I'm wanting to find out if other schools using Fusion 360 are having the same problems. We can't seem to get anyone at Autodesk to provide an answer on why this is happening despite trying different channels. They just don't seem to think its an issue. I'm hoping I can find a number of schools in the same position and approach Autodesk with that fact. Please let me know if your using the product and how your finding it. Thank you, Rob

The licence I'm referring to is from this page: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/device-based-licensing So your licencing the PC/device rather than the user. Which means non A1 Plus licenced users can still use Office 365. We have A1 Plus licenses already on all our staff and students. However visitors who use are system do not. So if I deployed Office 365, my understanding is these users wouldn't only be able to open documents and not save. I also need to avoid the 5 activation limit which A1 Plus has, as we're not 1to1 for devices. However I think there's a middle ground using 'Shared Activation' but I'm not sure?

Ok so I've heard back from my reseller about the licences. There only available for EES customers (IE more than 500 staff). So my question now is, what options do I have for licencing Office 365? Is it 'Shared Activation'? How does that go on if we need non-licenced users to use Office? Or do I cope out and deploy Office Pro 2019? Microsoft Licencing!!! Grrr

So we have a DataSet with lessons (Or Periods whatever you want to show) which has the end time in a column, like so: As we run a two week timetable, we also have a Dataset for school weeks with a 'End Date' column rather than Time. Then you add a 'DataSet Ticker' widget to your layout (Or sub playlist in our case as we display lesson and weeks in the same place, one after the other) Configure it as follows: The above filter is for the lessons/periods Dataset shown above. Its as follows: DATE_FORMAT(NOW(), '%T') < Time If you want to show weeks, the filter is as follows: Now() <= WeekEnd Hopefully that's all you need. From there you just format it how you want. The same system can be used for anything time or date based from a DataSet. We have another one for Assemblies as well.

I used the 'Datasets' area to input my periods of the day. Then using some SQL filters you can show one at a time using the dataset ticker widget. I can post more information tomorrow for you. As for house points, can't help you with that I'm afraid.

I finished the SCCM wizard then edited the xml file to enable DBA. Hopefully that's all that's needed.

Dear god what have I gotten in to. So I'm pretty new to SCCM so that might be my problem. But I've go to the Office 365 area in software inventory and followed the setup wizard for Office 365. However, the 'Device Based Activation' toggle is greyed out. Is this the right way to go about it and if so, how do I set DBA? I've emailed by Microsoft reseller to enquire about the licences themselves.

Your ICT policy should cover this, it's very bad practice and hard to defend if you have a breach.

Would do you mean by 'making sure you are licenced'. IE the user or are we talking a device licence? Currently all our staff and students have Office 365 Plus licences (So they can get office at home) but I want the office in school to be device based so it doesn't use up there activations and non-licenced users can still use it. My understanding is DBL is used for this. However I guess I need to get some device licences from my reseller? Thanks

Host OS & Management are the same thing (Well I thought so). So as sted has said above. Go for a 3x NIC team and put host management in to the VM switch. That way you have redundancy on everything but failover. Or if you don't need the 2Gbps capacity, do two teams 2x2 so you have redundancy on both.

We made this mistake as well when getting spoofing emails. Couldn't understand why spoofing emails failing all the checks would get through. Sure enough we have a 'Bypass spam for SCHOOL DOMAIN' rule right at the top. Its now why I refuse to add any domain to an central allow list. We've had a few staff comment that certain companies (And even our LEA) have gone to junk, but looking at the headers they fail the check.

I can't say I've seen any issues with it here. Are you all using the Admin Installer not general public one?

I've been following this thread a little bit as I hope to roll out Office 365 to replace our existing Office 2016 version. However I would just like to clear something up with you. What method do you suggest I follow for a new installation? All our devices and users and Azure AD joined / synced. However we will have a few visitors who will not have Office 365 licences. We're not 1to1 and have a number of ICT Suites which means a lot of users on the same machine. Thanks, Rob

I'll need to get back to on your on Sequencer but I found you needed to remove a lot of 'Windows' files & folders, plus any registry items for Windows or other services other than Chrome. However, I then found it wouldn't allow users to choose Chrome as the default browser so I went back to deploying by MSI. As that method worked and the only advantage to App-V for Chrome is it would save space it someone didn't open it, but everyone does.
