  1. It all depends on the spec of the software especially the amount of RAM you have installed. I think your looking at about 30 - 40 users max on standard hardware.
  2. Theres a few posts on here already and I seem to remember one saying don't bother as the fire brigade will sweep the school anyway whether all students are accounted for or not.
  3. We've just bought some Acer Aspire One's from CPL, they look pretty good as I took one out of the box today but they haven't been used in lessons yet so I can't comment on how suitable they are for education.... yet.
  4. We have one of these, don't think it can send TXT messages but it does e-mails and I get these through on my phone. CliMate CM-2 Rack Environmental Monitoring Unit
  5. If you haven't already seen it take a look at CC4 Anywhere - its not cheap but does what your after. CC4 Anywhere
  6. Not quite a school magazine, but we publish a parents newsletter each month. St. Bede's Catholic School and Sixth Form College - Parents' Newsletters - newsletters
  7. We do the same - offer a temp UPN then wait for the students old school to send us the UPN details - or constantly chase them up to tell us over the phone!
  8. I have a quote for a Casio XJA130 for £595.00 which I didn't think was too bad. So probably gonna purchase one of these tomorrow for testing.
  9. This is part of the 'controlled tests' exam boards are looking at. Its not just English involved but Geography, Art, Music......
  10. We use our sch.uk address for our website and staff e-mails, students use our .co.uk domain for their mail.
  11. I bought some of this from play.com a while ago - I have to agree in large quantities it would become expensive for very little benefit.
  12. Its not worth the risk for the cost of a new PSU to fix internally. Too many "where theres blame theres a claim" companies out there.

  14. We had issues with sharepoint wanting the domain\ prior to logging in externally before we setup ISA and now its not required, so I am guessing it would fix your issue as well.
  15. Are you going through an ISA box? I think if you were the DOMAIN\ wouldn't be needed. Not sure if there is another work around for it.
  16. Hah I think I know your friend
  17. Thanks Simon I was going to e-mail Mark on monday with some other items for a quote, so will just sort it then. Cheers for letting me know your a supplier
  18. For those that seen / read about the new Casio projector these are good bits of kit. Does anybody know the UK resellers as I am a looking for one of these to test out in school. Cheers
  19. I think I remember Ric saying it was something like 160 individual points at a time - I am sure he will clarify or someone else.
  20. I was a little disappointed with BETT yesterday I wouldn't say there was anything that had the 'wow' factor. A lot of the products on sale were on sale last year too. I wonder if the tightening of school purse strings has had an affect on the amount of time and money developers have put in developing new solutions. I am back tomorrow, so I'll be checking again incase I missed anything.
  21. Plenty of ugly mugs on the edugeek stand
  22. Sounds a good idea - my only question is will the teachers still be too lazy to press the button?
  23. We do this here also, then the teacher replies back to the the general account account which is then forwarded back onto the parent. It doesn't take long before the parents guess the staff e-mail accounts, but through the above method it does work. The reason we do not want staff directly e-mailing parents is to safe guard the staff, if a parent has an issue with a member of staff this is generally done via the headteacher, HOD or HOY to safeguard any issues with the teacher.
  24. I would hazard a guess and it won't be backwards compatible but I would speak to the company you use to get your licences as they will have more idea / will be able to find out. I must admit we are a secondary school and use Photoshop Elements in some of our lessons, and the staff are more than happy with what it offers them. I am looking into purchasing a site licence for Adobe Web Premium to upgrade our dreamweaver, flash, photoshop etc - which I think will be a lot better for students all round from the Macromedia MX 2004 they are currently using.
  25. Its a slice not a full pizza I'll probably be calling along for some tomorrow as well. Cheers
