  1. All of our cleaners are great - they get on with their job and are friendly and cheerful to all. Infact they now like to call themselves "Floor Technicians" since the Caretaker is adamant he is now Premises Manager.
  2. We have ejay, Sibelius and Cubase. Sibelius and Cubase are monsterous applications but 100% easier to install than ejay. I eventually did get it work, just by running it directly via a network drive - but no idea how I did it as it never seems to work like that for anybody else.
  3. Servers = every 4 years Desktops = every 3 years Replacing 200 - 250 each year - some are good enough to be moved in less busy locations. We currently have just over 900 on site. Laptops = never Staff all got laptops as part of the LfT scheme - since then we don't replace them. LMT do however get a new laptop every 3 years. Projectors = as and when necessary IWB's = never had to replace any Promeathean boards up to now (45 on site) Printers = Every 4 years in suites and retired into low key areas of the school or when required.
  4. I've sent off the 3 year lamp warranties and spare lamp forms off and never had any issues. Infact about 18 months ago I sent 26 spare lamp forms off and they all come into school within a week or so.
  5. P.s. Its generally ran during the promotion process, so I guess something like the permissions group should be along those lines.
  6. Are you running SIMS with full rights? The Validate Memberships option is available under our Tools sub menu. The only thing I can think of is a permissions issue.
  7. Hi Gareth I am not 100% sure on the cost, but I think a lot of schools (us included) will have to go down this route as part of the diploma lines. If I hear of a cost I'll let you know ASAP.
  8. Likewise, just got 7 new sanyo projectors with the RJ45 port. I've not seen any software in with the projectors so I am not sure if this is an added cost. I'll let you do some research and ask you when you've finished Cheers.
  9. If you have a server running .php you could do something like this: Contact PHP Email Form Script with free contact php code I must admit I've not tried it, it was just the first thing that appeared in a google search. For an easy life I would probably go with webmans solution.
  10. We don't but some schools I know do an 'opt out' i.e. if you do not wish your son / daughter to have internet access within school please inform...... Therefore you won't have to sit and collate all returns your just waiting for the odd opt-out or phone call.
  11. I would also try a different room (physically) in the school, preferably one that doesn't use the same switch etc.
  12. Yes, this is Read Only mode. Opening the document to edit I think works as expected.
  13. We have several Publisher 2007 documents saved onto our Sharepoint install WSS 3.0. Word, Excel, PPT all seem to open fine directly. When a user tries to open a publisher document directly from sharepoint they receive the following error message: "Publisher cannot find the file you specified. The next dialog box will let you know browse to locate the file on your hard disk". If the publisher files are saved locally they open up fine so they are not corrupt. We use IE7 if this helps. Thanks
  14. Hi If I was you, I would deliver shortcuts via the Start > All Programs method - things start to get messy when you add shortcuts to the desktop especially when staff see its possible they will want all sorts adding. Via the Management console the very top tree is called Configuration Settings. If you then choose: Global Workstation Settings > Windows Firewall Then you can enable the firewall as well as add the necessary exceptions to allow remote desktop to work. I must admit a lot of people have created a package for something like TightVNC and find this works much better than Remote Desktop.
  15. Dear all I have cobbled together the attached document for use with all of our staff within school. I'd be interested to hear your views / changes. Feel free to use in your own establishment if you think its a good starting point. e-mail etiquette.doc
  16. Thanks. This may give me the opportunity to understand wave a little more. Cheers
  17. I think if its within the 12 month contract you can do it but you will have to pay back any of the offers you initially got when you signed up "Free Installation", "Free Box and Dish" etc. It will probably be cheaper depending on how long you have to run on your contract to downgrade to the cheapest package about £17 per month and pay that until the 12 months are up. I wouldn't personally just cancel the DD as you will get a bad credit rating and they will chase and chase for your details.
  18. We use SIMS profiles here too. Staff only have the write one Smart Target for each student so we don't go through reams and reams off paper per report. Page 1 - Front Cover Page 2 - Intro Letter Page 3 - Tutor Comment Page 4 / 5 - Subject Comments All attendance and assessment data is pulled in via SIMS also into the report. Profiles comes with SIMS, but we paid for extra Profiles webpart to add into our Learning Gateway. I think with the December release parents will be able to access documents such as Profiles Reports via our Learning Gateway.

    Which antivirus?

We have Symantec here also - wouldn't say i'm a fan or dislike the product but it comes free via the LA, so thats why I use it.
  20. It used to be public, but now invite only by the looks of it. http://haighysblog.blogspot.com/
  21. Not changing as in getting dressed, I guess it means recording different students passing the camera throughout the day... or at least I hope it does!
  22. You could buy a mac and dualboot it using Bootcamp, VMWare Fusion or Parallels. This will enable you to learn in your own time the MacOS but to also comfortably use an image of Windows XP / Windows 7 etc for your day to day software.
