You don't test it before the exam window? Lesson learned I believe! I don't get the emails any more (I used to though and I'm still listed as a contact so I should). As mentioned - get a few demo test sessions ordered and set aside a bit of time before the exam to make sure all is well. To be honest we don't have too many problems with it. It updates properly (albeit very slowly when downloading and with little info to tell you what's happening) and the clients pick up the new version correctly all the time. HBJB

I have a Galaxy S and have learned to hate it over the past 6 months. My iPhone decided to pack up so I got the Galaxy but so far: it locks up randomly, battery life is now down to less than a day, Kies is crap, Bluetooth does not always connect to other devices (car mainly - so I can't reliably use the inbuilt hands free), ... and there's a general lack of anything remarkable about it. Maybe it's just me though. HBJB

Crikey - we've had all sorts of issues with 0.30 to the point where we've replaced the init.gz with the 0.29 version and rolled back the default kernel to the previous one we were using. Some of our machines imaged (upload and download) phenomenally fast though - triple the speed in some cases - others just stopped working with Fog. Everything worked with the 0.29 hence the roll back. Quick image has stopped working also but we haven't had time to investigate this or to check if anything else is broken. Cheers HBJB

I have the same problem for ID badges etc. Paint.net can do it one by one by using the 'rectalgle select' tool and then selecting 'fixed size' from the tool bar (not the floating toolbar - the one with the word 'normal' as default). Cheers HBJB

You can certainly PXE boot a virtual box setup in Hyper-V since we do it here for testing (test/wipe etc). Don't think you can with Virtual PC though. ... however you may be also to mount a PXE boot cd in Virtual PC and do it that way though. Cheers HBJB

As I understand it (hope it's correct 'cos this is how it works here) that if you do not have D1 on your licence you can drive a minibus up to and including 16 seats (with the appropriate competancy test outlined by your school) but cannot drive a 17 seater (as we have here) whereas with a D1 you can drive said 17 seater (again with the competency test). I have D1 on mine and as the older staff gradually leave I find myself being commandeered more and more to drive kids around (although there is a good case for me not doing it usually and SMT don't see it as a good use of my time). We've got the same problem and the only solution we've found is the VNC listening client. We have no money to spend on this student so we have to come up with a free solution (other departments have though - the site manager has repainted all of the corridors, door frames and steps to high contract colours and has had new carpets fitted for this one student). The refresh rate is acceptable but a draw back is that the teacher cannot 'freeze' the display and do other things (like they do) because that gets transmitted to the client. HBJB

We use Access Based Enumeration. If a use does not have permission to the folder they don't even see it. Works well but as with all measures you put in place it's down to the end user to keep it secure. HBJB

OMG - what is it with RM? I've spoken to them only today about re-installing SM on W7 and they said version 1.3 would work with no problems but wouldn't supply any instructions on how we could go about installing it ourselves (our support contract expired a couple of years ago). They also said that we have the latest version (!!!). If anyone has it running in W7 I'd like to know how before I waste many hours trying - also it would help if could use our new 2008 servers rather than have to setup a 2003 one. HBJB

No - we're using the Windows 7 Enterprise media as provided by our Schools Agreement. It's only affecting one manufacturer of PCs as far as I'm aware and short of cracking the BIOS we're a bit stuck. Since we have more than a hundred of these machines it's a bit of a headache and because we've been using MAK keys to get around the problem and have had to re-image a few times due to issues we've run out of activations. MS have upped our limit once already but seem reluctant to do so again (understandably). Cheers HBJB

Sorry to resurrect this old(ish) thread but we're having problems with hardware that we purchased with OEM windows versions and KMS keys. Basically these machines are reporting that the information held in the BIOS ACPI_SLIC table doesn't exist and therefore we can't activate Windows 7. These PCs are not 'big brand' ones but are from a supplier much lauded on this site in the past. The error is: "The software licences service reported that the computer could not be activated with a volume licence product key. Volume licenced systems require upgrading from a qualified OS." As far as I'm concerned we do have a qualifying OS since we purchased the PCs with the OS installed. Is there any way around this apart from using MAK keys (which we will soon run out of)? I was at the MS Campus in Reading the other week and they demonstated it in their auditorium with a few volenteers. Looks great, easy to setup and once the bugs have been ironed out could be a really nice thing to have. HBJB

Due to a slip of the keyboard we've accidently ordered the wrong batteries for our HP servers. Consequently I have now got three HP 383280-B21 kits (link) and three 24" leads for the same. The battery's HP part number is 384573-001 and the HP Spares number is 398648-001. The lead Kit number is 417836-B21 (link). They are for the Smart Array P400 series and fit onto the memory module DIMM. The are brand new and boxed (I opened one before I realised it was the wrong type though) and I'm looking to recoup some of the cost since I can't return them as it was a special order. Each battery pack cost just short of £100 and the leads were around £25 each. Offers? HBJB

I see. Actually that explains a few little issues we have occasionally where we have to unplug the machines to get any network at all sometimes. HBJB
