  1. For some reason and without making any changes it's working ok this morning. Ah well. C'est la vie! Thanks HBJB
  2. I'd done that already but it seems Smoothwall still wants to block it. If I bypass it and go directly to the SWGfL it works OK. I'm not sure why Smoothwall has a problem with it since all the others started working when I added them to the exception list. HBJB
  3. Thanks for that - I was struggling to get it working until I saw the Authentication exceptions bit. Still can't get Edexcel to work though and can't find an url to add to the list. The Pearson one is Edexcel but it doesn't work for me. Can't get any joy out of either Edexcel or A2C. HBJB
  4. Yep - I am too. I wrote a detailed proposal on how it would benefit the school etc. and got it funded through the CPD budget. Just means I have to actually do it now. HBJB
  5. I had a similar problem with an LTO3 autoloader once and it turned out it was due to a faulty SCSI terminator. Not sure what the original error code was though but it was definitely a 'Block Written Mismatch Error'. HBJB
  6. If you log in from a different machine your last (open) session should be closed automatically (you normally get a message on screen telling you such) so you're in the same session effectively but from a different machine. Get in the habit of logging out though or you may come unstuck one day. HBJB

  8. To be fair £180 isn't that much when compared to a lot of the other top restuarants. I know someone who went to one of Jamie's places with three other people and the bill was in excess of £1,500. I've promised myself a trip to The Fat Duck for years now but would need to take three others with me (). The wine lists in these places are well pricey so beware (usually £50+ per glass). Do it and justify it as a once in a lifetime experience. HBJB
  9. Thanks - I figured that one out but initially the status not changing foxed me a bit. I've re-deployed to the whole lot but what I haven't figured out yet is how to re-deploy to just the failed machines and not the entire lot again (and again). Cheers HBJB
  10. What a nightmare! Tried to deploy a scheduled update last night (Autumn update). Set it for 18:00 with all machines turned on just in case. After half an hour or so SOLUS decided not to deploy any more so I've now got hundreds of PCs that are showing 'incompatible database' messages and have 'in progress' in the deployment detail. On top of that I can't cancel the deployment and restart because it's greyed out and I can't set a new one off because the old one is still running and it gets set to 'scheduled'. It seems to have got stuck on one machine according to the logs and is still trying - 'Agent ID 34 is already executing an update. target 907 is waiting|AgentAvailable()'. It won't move on to the next and so it's stalled at this point. Have tried restarting the affected PC but no joy there. I have simply copied a working 7.142 SIMS.net folder to all of our teacher / office / admin machines which seems to work OK but I still can't cancel the SOLUS job. Any ideas? Not impressed! edit: NOTE: just copying the SIMS folder over stops Examinations from working. HBJB
  11. Al ours are one in the mains and one in the UPS. HBJB
  12. I concur with the above unless special arrangements have been made by the original supplier. HBJB
  13. Yes. I think everyone should be aware of the pitfalls of not thoroughly detailing their specifications and then reading the fine print and then getting the companies to actually do what you asked for in the first place rather than their often perverse interpretation of what you wanted. A salesman will tell you anything to get a contract signed then point at the small print (which may not have been read) to get out of actually delivering the goods. I had this recently when a specific and rather unique requirement popped up in a project we were about to embark on. I asked the sales guy if it could be done and 'yes' was the answer. I later asked the same question and still got a yes. At the end of the meeting I asked again (because I'm like that ) and he said he'd confirm with his technical people and guess what! They came back and said it couldn't be done under any circumstances. My advice - always know exactly what you want and keep asking for it, build it into the specification and make them work for you and not the other way around. HBJB
  14. Our secondary ADSL (non SWGfL) connection was down as well and they both came back up at precisely the same time. HBJB
  15. 1: SIMS not always opened - I tried it on a couple of test boxes - agreed that some users ignored the 'close SIMS now' message though. 2: 3: Yes to click remove - but then we're back to points 1 & 2 and the machine stays permanently marked as 'removed'. I simply can't trust it to do a good and reliable job. I want to and God knows I've tried to make it work but ... HBJB
  16. I'm finding it flaky on all fronts at the moment. 1) It reports that the client has been installed on ones it hasn't actually done (visit to machine confirms this) and reports that it isn't installed on ones where the client is running happily so I'm not sure whether or not the machine is going to get updated at all. 2) The interface is clunky and non intuitive and re-deploying is a right faff and a bit hit and miss whether it works or not. 3) There is no provision to easily re-deploy if a PC has been re-imaged. You have to jump through hoops and delve into the database to fix this because of the GUID assigned. I've a good mind to remove the client altogether and move back to SOLUS2 because I'm reluctant to install the last update via SOLUS3 because of these issues. If only you could distribute Discover via SOLUS2 HBJB
  17. ... or it got delivered to the wrong address and opened accidentally and then put into your letter box by said neighbour. HBJB
  18. We're getting this with our Frog site. Only with chrome. just a blank white page shows. With Chrome being used more and more the issue is becoming a pressing one. HBJB
  19. No. Sysprep assigns a new one at the end of the imaging process. (I haven't checked to see if SOLUS uses the SID of the machine or its own.) HBJB
  20. Just installed 3.4.103 today and a few niggles are fixed but it's still a bit irritating that if you re-image your machines you'll get loads of redundant entries in the database due to the UID SOLUS assigns them. SOLUS doesn't seem to detect that they no longer have the client installed (it's not built into our image and it wouldn't help if it was due to the UID anyway) and you can't just re-deploy the client on it's own so you still have to use the remove PC option and then re-install again (along with re-deploying SIMS, FMS and Discover). It's a bit anoying and time consuming to do that if you've just deployed an image to 600 or so PCs. So far so good though and no great reliability issues so far. HBJB
  21. Agrajag! HBJB
  22. Sooo funny. I wonder how long before it's removed HBJB
  23. Don't even get me started about SOLUS 3! I've got a list of complaints that seem to be ignored in each update. And what about after re-imaging of PCs - what a disaster area! They never pick up the clients again so never get updated. You have to remove them from the SOLUS system and then faff about getting it to re-deploy (alolng with extra fiddling to get Discover working again). Then they all stay listed as 'removed' but with the current client working. Gaaahhh! I'm dreading the next update to SIMS now. It was so easy before this. HBJB
