You may want to try reserved IP addreses instead of a long lease if you want to make them almost static. HBJB

We don't use an ADM for that task. I use a reg file that runs once and sets the login wallpaer and changes the numlock to on by default ('cos our users seem unable to login if they have numbers in their password and the numlock is set to off at logon). Some info on ADM creation HERE HBJB

Stick tape in, wait for it to register, drag it from unassigned media (or similar) to media set already created I think. I'm pretty sure that's how it works in V 8.6 onwards. Sorry if it's wrong - just got back in from a rather serious curry session at my local Indian. HBJB

Eh? The SWGfL charge us over £4500 for 8MB. We think it's a right swizz and I hope to convince our SMT to ditch them in favour of someone else - but who? (Plus the head has just decided that in the absence of a ringfenced ICTiS pot it's going to come out of my already meagre budget which is now in deficit as a result!) We don't use many of the services that require us to have a SWGfL external IP Address and I believe that a lot of these will allow other providers to connect so long as they know that the IP is coming from a school. I've only dabbled with Smoothwall (a couple of years back) so I'll have to look into that again. Does it do filtering now? I don't recall seeing that in the last version I played with. I really would like to ditch RMs SmartCache2 box as well ‘cos it's crap. It the only piece or RM kit in our school (except for a couple of "Tesco PCs"). The only reason we keep it is because of the filtering and reporting tools. Cheers HBJB

I had to laugh the other day when I opened a box of spares and the USB to IDE converters I ordered were incorrectly replaced with mains leads. Funnily enough the supplier doesn't want them back. More for the already heaving box I suppose. Our site manager raids them occasionally for the fuses and I often find that when I do need one it doesn’t work (always when I’m at the wrong end of the school to where the box of leads is and I have to walk all over the building to track down a fuse or get another lead). Remove synchronisation by opening explorer and going to Tools/Folder Options/Offline Files and unticking "Enable Offline Files". I'm not sure if you can remove the "Is it Legal" thingy though. HBJB

He He, You have to ask three different people for advice then pool the responses and get them to agree on which of the three conflicting answers is correct. I had great difficulty getting a sensible answer about how to licence a new dual core, dual processor SQL server 2005 box and I still haven't had a response on the BackupExec remote service yet. /rant It is correct though that MSDOS does not come under the upgrade rules.
