So true - we only complain about the bad ones and rarely praise the good ones. Most at my school are good to me and offer respect and are invariably courteous (perhaps because of the possibility of me being the uber BOFH if they don't comply ). It's good to see the students backing the staff. So often it's the opposite of that. HBJB

I'm in exactly the same boat so would appreciate this info as well. We have MS Schools Agreement and Ramesys tell us that the CALs are included in our package but I'd like further proof since it doesn't specifically list in on our agreement info. HBJB

Have a look at what gpresult throws back. You can get a full verbose report by using a /v switch and sending it to a txt file as well. More info here. I had a similar problem a while back (here) that was never resolved but I had the luxury of being able to swap the machine out with another one. I assume that the NIC was FUBAR or something even though all other networking was fine. HBJB

The same place you mentioned in your last post. If you're associated please say so. So it works in much the same way as a Wii then? One sensor unit to detect where the pen is. I can see this sort of thing working for us in awkward areas but I've seen versions that have the projector part able to swing back to a parked position when not used so it's parallel to the board. This makes it practical to be be used in places like our dance studio when you don't want it being hit by students throwing their arms about or the evening "Kung Fu" type sessions. HBJB

We're doing it here to but with the usual windows command: shutdown -m \\pcname-s -t 60 -c "If you're still here - you shouldn't be, type of message" Batch file(s) in the scheduled task set to run at around 9:30pm. We have to leave it that late because of evening classes etc. We also run a script that shuts curriculum machines down just after the students are meant to leave (about an hour after school finishes) and the batch file that runs in the evening catches any that have been turned on since then plus admin machines. Sorry, I'd assumed it was an install on a new machine and that you were already using FMS. It wouln't have solved your original problem, it was just a word of warning about the overwriting of the installation files. HBJB

IIRC if you install FMS from a version that's different than is on other machines you have to copy the FMS setup files from the server to a different location because the CD will overwite them with the earlier versions. Copy them back after the installation and it will pick up the fact that it needs to upgrade. Hang on I'll check the support site. See KB35095 for more details "If a network installation of FMS is installed at a lower version that is currently running, it will overwrite the files in the setups folder. To avoid the need to run SOLUS 2 again, please follow all points below 1. Go to the setups folder in S:\SIMS\Setups. 2. Right click on FMSApplicationSetup.exe, go to Properties, and check the versions tab. 6.78 - 1.510.3.0 6.79 - 1.518.2.0 6.80 - 1.529.3.0 6.81 - 1.538.7.0 6.82 - 1.546.13.0 6.83 - 1.550.1.0 2. Copy FMSApplicationsetup.exe and FMSApplciationsetup.exe.signature 3. Paste these files on to the desktop. We have authorisation to create our own purchase order numbers and just order whenever we need. So long as it within the budget it's ok. I like the idea of the confirmation email within CMIS though. We use FMS (SIMS) here and I'm not aware if it can do that sort of thing - I suspect not since it seems particularly limited in "real Life" functions. Finance sort it all out when the invoices come in. This goes for large PC orders as well. So long as we get the correct number of quotes/tenders we have cart blanche. HBJB

Gaahhhh - We get this all the time as well. It'll work for random lengths of time then suddenly stop again. It was much worse when the Mac spooler was running as well but I've disabled that. Restarting the service seems to work but it's very annoying that we can't pin it down to anything. Our print server is a beefy Win 2003 R2 box, dual processor doing nothing but dishing print jobs to a dozen printers. No extra software is installed on it at all (except for the BE remote agent thingy). HBJB

We've been using the IT Index for some time now and find them very competitive on pricing. They're totally up front about their margins as well. The only downside is the fact that we get spam calls just about every day from our account manager (stop it now John !! ). We do all of our ordering online and don't need to be pestered to see if there's anything we need. HBJB

We just had a failed drive on our MIS server - also a Proliant. The server was still working fine but the red light had come on. I setup a case at HP and received a FOC replacement within a couple of days. Swapped it out and voila, the RAID rebuilt itself "as if by magic". Lovely job. Good luck. HBJB

Bad tapes, requires cleaning, files in use, dodgy HD etc. Could be a lot of things. I get 250gb backed up in just over an hour with our Ultrium drives - even 8 hours seems a long time for a DDS drive. HBJB

We get this as well and they only way to get it to show is to do an inventory. It will show after a scheduled job has run though. We're using version 11d. HBJB
