  1. I get genuine media and access to the VL website. MS give you access to the downloads not Ramesys and MS send all my media to me. I must have a hundred different CDs from them. Or am I different to everyone else? (We have a School Agreement package.) We have the genuine media for Adobe as well but I think we got the from Pugh. HBJB
  2. LOL I'm just glad they didn't decide to use Mrs Krabapple instead of Homer. HBJB
  3. Did the live chat thing and got a number that gave me another number who gave me another number for server support. On hold right now. Update: Spoke to a nice Indian gentleman who is sending out an engineer tomorrow to replace both power supplies and the backplane. He also confirmed that it does indeed have a three year warranty. Thanks for your help. HBJB
  4. Hmmmm We chose the "above base level" package (RAID 5, dual CPU, 4GB RAM etc.) so you'd think the three years would count but when I put in the serial number on their website it says that it does not qualify for warranty service. I guess I need to get hold of a phone number to speak to a real person. At the moment I have staff moaning (quite legitimately) that some of their apps are not available (this server deals with all of the networked software and MSI installations) and I'm no closer to getting it sorted. Gaaahh !! HBJB
  5. Brand new from (cough) PCWB. HBJB
  6. Hi We purchased a bunch of HP servers late last year and now one of the Proliant ML370 G5 models has fallen over with both PSU failed - or so it says on the panel thingy on the inside of the case. (So much for redundancy eh?) I've got amber and red flashing lights all over the place. Since these were bought in October 2006 I assumed that they would still be under warranty but according to the HP website and the documentation that comes with the server it's only covered for 90 days. Is this legal? I though we had a statutory 12 months in this country (even though EU rules state 24 months in some publications). Does anyone have any experience in getting HP servers fixed under warranty. So far I've had no luck getting hold of anyone to speak to about this. Cheers HBJB
  7. The BBC also spends nearly as much time "advertising" their own programmes as ITV do with proper adverts. They even do it during news programmes - "The BBC has learned that insert obscure article here and by the way you can see the full report on such and such a programme later tonight" HBJB
  8. With the BBC now pumping a lot of their progammes out over the internet, does that make all PCs capable of receiving TV and therefore requiring a licence? It's listed as a "grey area" on the link above but that may not stop the BBC trying to extract more cash out of us. HBJB
  9. Nope - on holiday now for a week and tech decided to let his apendix burst. HBJB
  10. The June update has really slowed down Lesson Monitor and now it can take up to 10 seconds for the mark to register and to move to the next student. I was forced to take it due to a fix for another problem being included. Ironicly it didn't fix it. Gaaaahh!! SIMS HBJB
  11. We run the Portable Apps version of it accross the network from a share - works perfectly in so far as I've not yet had any complaints about it. HBJB
  12. All of our machines with SIMS have IE7. I think the main compatability issue is with Office 2007. HBJB
  13. Can't say I've ever been bothered by them. HBJB (Avec animated avatar)
  14. How much can one man know I keep asking myself. HBJB
  15. Lol Worst avatar ever !! ... and the cheesiest grin
  16. Scopes / reservations / job done. HBJB
  17. I have to say SMT are good at my school as well but all staff are off on a long weekend (Friday & Monday) so even if I mentioned it nothing would get done. HBJB
  18. Yep - getting that already. I got trapped in the corridor this morning with a whole bunch of teachers surrounding me having a right go. I only wish SMT had seen it 'cos it was tantamount to bullying. HBJB
  19. Are they in use? Make sure everyone has logged out of Launcher before restoring. Also in the old, old system manager there was a tool to release locked workstations or files or something like that. I'm just about to start the conversion myself but so far have not had the patch to allow it to happen from Capita despite asking for it. My datacheck is now out of date and will have to be run again. Cheers HBJB
  20. Hi, The powers that be have told me to apply a 10 min screen saver and require that staff have to input their password in order to de-activate it. This is because of the electronic registration and staff walking away from machines issue. Easy I thought, and it was until I got a report that a member of staff who is the only one using that room, that when she went to log back on it said that it was in use by someone else. I assumed that she had forgotten that the person listed had logged in but now I've heard the same story from two or three people and have seen for myself a PC that is very unlikely to have been used by the member of staff that the system says is logged on. It appears that a random name is being used and it's not happening on all machines. I've had to remove the "Password protect the screen saver" option for now but I'd like to know what the cause is. Any ideas? Cheers HBJB
  21. We get this all the time and I'm sure it's down to the issue of wireless NIC not connecting before the logon screen appears. It happens on just about every Acer we have (stupid things only turn the wireless on before login if it's powered from the mains), but never on our HP ones. We have changed the GPO setting as mentioned above but it's made no difference since the NIC has to be physicly turned on to enable it. BTW if I turn on the NIC during boot up all is well. Stupid cheapo kit. Give me more money I say !! HBJB
  22. We created a dedicated "backup" user (as recommended by Capita) and use a bach file for backing up. One of their KBs explains why they think it's necessary. It isn't compulsory but we thought it more secure to use a limited SIMS user account since the password is in plain text. We also put the batch file in an area where only admins have access to. Our batch file is scheduled to run over night. I also make a copy of the Docstorage folder at the same time so that there's always a matched pair if we need to restore. HBJB
  23. LOL - I guessed that too but put a typo in and got it refused. Should have looked closer at my spelling. HBJB
  24. OK so you may have to ask for it. Just give support a kick or two to get the URL. It may be the May main release that you need now though. URL for June update is http://dl.capitasolus.co.uk/cdimage/jun07update.zip HBJB
  25. I think you have to use the Feb 2007 CD for a fresh install. There is a link on their support website for this download. I'll see if I can find it for you. HBJB
