We already have 2003 Standard but I need to have more mail stores. I need to go to Enterprise but can't get hold of a 2003 version. We have purchased 2007 Standard which allows 5 mail stores and I suppose I could have bought 2007 Enterprise and downgraded to 2003 Enterprise (If I could get the media and license key). We're in a bit of a dilemma because we installed 2003 to test and then realised that it didn't suite our purpose ('cos of the mail stores) so we're now in a position of needing to remove 2003 (and all the AD trappings) and put a new 64 bit server in and use 2007. Does it clean up nicely when installed? HBJB

Hmmm, here's something that I can't find by Googling: If one of your DCs has an issue with AD does that problem replicate to the others or do any others somehow know that it's borked and put a good copy back? HBJB

AD borked on us a few months ago and it took us 3 days to fix the servers and to go round all the machines and take them off the domain and put them back on again. (?) This was the only way we could get the machines to connect again after a System State restore. Still not found the reason why it dropped a server out of AD but apparently it does happen. HBJB

Could you elaborate please? We're about to do just that and wold like to know the pitfalls before hand if poss. Ta HBJB

I've just been quoted £16k to upgrade the core to 48Gb in our main cab and another £12K to buy matching kit for our three other fibre linked cabs. I have also recently had a quotes to add three new 50/125 fibre runs totaling about 300m they are between £2.5K and £3.5K which I thought resonable enough. HBJB >

AM & PM registers are a legal documents and as such should ALWAYS be filled in correctly. The sooner some teachers realise this and stop taking offense when told such the better it will be for a lot of people who have to do the chasing up. Reinforce your policies and stress the importance of having an up to date and reliable register. H & S, fire drills, census attendance reports etc all rely on accurate registers. HBJB

BTW there are some newer projectors out there that have some form of remote shutdown on them so it can be managed centrally. Not sure what it entails but I might look into it for our next batch of projectors. HBJB

That’s what I usually do, but that value isn’t there in Windows Server 2003 but it is in XP, if i create it will it work then? It's in my 2003 registry 'cos that's what I used to do before the days of BGInfo. Create the key Maybe? HBJB

@DaveP You might have to disable the Active Desktop policy in AD - that should reverse the settings if you had it enabled before and just clicked 'Not Configured' to turn it off. HBJB

..... BGInfo can set the 'logon' wall paper as well. There's a reg setting that does what you want: HKEY_USERS/.default/ControlPanel/Desktop/WallpaperStyle - needs to be set to 2 for stretch from memory. HBJB

Wow - my Hotmail is a spam-fest account and only a small portion gets picked up by the filters but my Gmail one does a good job of picking up all the unwanted mail and dumping it in the spam folder. Why does one filter work well and not the other? HBJB

LOL Next time I register I'm going to set up a dedicated BETT spam account and use that instead. Also I'm going to use a disagreeable teacher's phone extension. Mwahaha I'll be there btw. HBJB
