I've just purchased some HP 6715s laptops with the optional 12 cell battery pack. It fits to the bottom and charges through the normal power connection. I got 14 hours out of one the other day! Admittedly it was not in constant use all day long but the screen was always on and I kept doing random things on it. HBJB

Don't know if it's the correct way to do it but we get this achieved by setting up new contacts (with an external email address) and adding them to the distribution group. The new contacts show up in AD automatically so you may want to organise them in some sensible fashion. As mentioned earlier make sure that you allow all mail to be sent to and from external sources (right click Dist. Group/properties/mail flow settings/message delivery settings and tick 'accept messages from all senders'). HBJB

I'd try to future proof yourself as much as you can. You say you will have a need to backup 80gig by the summer but what about the summer after that? 100? 120? If you get a newer, much faster drive now you may just avoid having to panic about it later. Of course, depending on your current setup you may need to update your SCSI card as well . HBJB

Compression shouldn't make the backup less reliable. It may take longer to do though. Personally I would ditch the DAT40 (?) drive you currently have and go to a much larger capacity drive perhaps LTO3 or 4. This will give you 800/1600MB (compressed). I have a bunch of DAT72 drives sitting around doing nothing since we've moved over to LTOs and especially since we now have an autoloader. HBJB

Off topic slightly but I'm desperately trying to find out some info on NOD at the moment and their website is playing up (can't get a sensible answer out of the supplier either ). We're looking into replacing Sophos with NOD and maybe it's me being a bit slow today but I'm a little bit confused about which products to use. We need to cover our servers, workstations, stand alone laptops (not on the network) and our exchange server and we need to use the Remote Administration tools. Since I cannot download any of the documentation at the moment I have to resort to asking these questions elsewhere (the website just hangs without dishing up the pdf files). As far as I can see from the website there is an edition that is version 3.0.657 but does not have the required Remote Administration (possibly this is for standalone machines). There is then the Remote Administrator Console & Server (v2.0.107) and NOD32 with LAN Update Server (v2.70.39). There is also a v2.70.39 without the LAN Update Server. I'm lead to believe that for our machines to update from a central point we need the LAN Update Server version and the Remote Administration Server/Console. This works fine for our networked machines but which version do we install on the standalone staff laptops? There is apparently a licence file that we would need to use for the LAN Update Server but how will the licence file work on standalone machines? Are the versions radically different between the networked one (2.70.39) and the other one (3.0.657) and can it be used with LAN Update Server (answered above I think). Can I update the Exchange version via the LAN Update Server? Sorry about this HBJB

After the blackout blind I can see a grassy quadrant where the greenhouse is. It's about the only open space in the school that's not covered in weeds three feet high. To get Audacity and Lame working easily (and without having to install anything) download the portable apps version (Portable Apps Audacity), download Lame (Lame) and drop the lame_enc.dll into the Audacity\App\LAME folder. Job done! Easy as pie. HBJB
