  1. Do you have the full installation of SIMS installed or do they just have NovaT as a satelite app? Do you use SIMS as your MIS or just to timetable? HBJB
  2. I was sure Logmein tunnels over port 80/443. That's why it works well for most people. Is Hampshire in the SWGfL? (I can't remember.) If so have you tried the staff proxy? (You may not have access to this if you're not secondary.) HBJB
  3. We were charged £100 and 2 points for opening a port to our mail server. It took them about 6 weeks and loads of chasing up from me to get it done that quickly (RM). What a joke! I could do it in about 10 seconds. HBJB
  4. Three or four months after we bought the OneLan we had an email to tell us the new software was available but wouldn't work on our box. I assume they knew this would be the case when they sold it to us so I'm really, really miffed. I also recall being told when we had the demo that we qualify for all software updates - they just forgot to mention that the next release would screw us over. As I recall it would cost c £600 to update the hardware/software. Don't get me wrong, the Onelan system is very good but to have it rendered effectively obsolete so soon after purchase is very disappointing. HBJB
  5. SWGfL? Do tell me what you had to do please. I've just bought over 9Ks worth Polycom VC kit but don't dare plug it in yet because of all the problems that there have been up to now. HBJB
  6. Doesn't seem to on ours. HBJB
  7. Some backup programs used to have difficulty with encrypted files. Not sure on the state of play with EFS though. HBJB
  8. It does it automatically for us! Are you giving them an email address when you set the up in AD? IIRC when you create a mailbox in the Exchange Management Console it creates a user in AD anyway. HBJB
  9. Cheers all. I'll check that lot out tomorrow. HBJB (Sorry, I can't thank you via my iPhone so I'll do it later)
  10. You can hide it but I'm not sure if it comes back on the next logon (right click and select hide). HBJB
  11. I'm plugging in fully compiant Aruba wireless APs amongst other CCTV stuff. These work on the other POE switch I blagged which is a 3Com SuperStack 3 4500. HBJB
  12. Hi all We recently had a new IT build that was completely out of our control and we had little say over the back end kit that was supplied. Needless to say we usually do all the procurement ourselves and it all works but this time it was done for us the the LEA and we've had all sorts of problems. The one thing I need clarification on it the switch situation they've left us in. We had supplied 2 x 3COM 5500G-EI (3CR17255-91) 48 port and 24 port and on the front they say POE. The problem is we cannot get POE enabled at all on any ports. When we go to the console it and use the POE link it tells us "POE is not supported on the equipment or the port". A quick look at the manual indicates that we might need a separate module to make POE work but I'm a bit unsure on this and cannot find a definitive answer. Some sites say that the POE only needs an add in if the existing POE devices are drawing too much power and I can't find the part number to check (the manual lists some numbers but when searched for they do not appear to be what I want but could be this). I have managed to get POE working by adding one of our own switches to the cab but this has to be put back soon and I need the supplied ones to work. Hope you guys can shed some light on this. HBJB
  13. Smart are considering re-jigging this for the next version apparently. We had a chat with them just after we rolled it out last term because we thought it was a really stupid place to put it. We want it to be able to be put anywhere on the desktop and to have the option to not have it up by default. HBJB
  14. Not a book as such but You had me at EHLO solves (nearly) all of our little issues. HBJB
  15. Sorry? They're moaning at you for having the servers running? Find out how many staff have personal kettles/fridges/coffee makers/fan heaters and point out that they are not strictly required at school and if they wanted to save money then they should look there first. HBJB
  16. Cords, beards, sandals with socks and elbow patches = the staple attire of the art teacher c1970 (possible much later as well). HBJB
  17. We never managed to sucessfully get it working every time. Sometimes it works but not others. See this page for more details. We reverted to a vbs script in the end which picks up the machine name (or part thereof) and assigns printers based on that. Works everytime. HBJB
  18. Are you by chance running Vista and Spybot? I ask because I had this same problem after an update to Spybot (Usng SD Helper and Teatimer). I had use system restore to fix it. I had no such problems with XP. HBJB
  19. Bah - this technology has been widely used for charging low voltage things for years now. (Braun tooth brushes has used induction charging for 20 odd yeas for example.) It's just getting to the refinement stages now. Looks exiting but at what cost? How long would it take to recharge a laptop for example? A long time I suspect and you'd probably be charged for the privilege. HBJB
  20. Nice one. Thanks for getting it sorted. Sent from iPhone BTW. HBJB
  21. Posting is indeed fixed - thanks (don't need it now though ) The iPhone issue is a weird one though but luckily I can still use the 'original' version to post. I do like the iPhone version though and would prefer that while I'm on the go. Cheers HBJB
  22. Thanks for moving my post to the right section. I still can't setup a new 'Site Problem' case since there's no message box to type into for me so I get a message saying the thread is too short. (See screenshot.) Screenshot of the iPhone error attached. HBJB
  23. Congrats. If your place is anything like mine then your post won't be covered - it seems only teaching staff get that side of things (and the EWO who's perpetually pregnant) HBJB
  24. Sorry - gotta post this here because ironically the site problems section is not working for me at the moment. I can't get a message box up to post my problem I just get the title bit. Anyway - I cannot post anything via my iPhone using the iPhone version of the site. i get a message saying "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing" Am I missing something? HBJB
  25. I use this. Works well + free. HBJB
