Hi, Is it just me or is any-one else getting bounces from the usual email addresses? Apparently they've been taken over or have merged with Edu-Tec and now I can't get hold of my usual contacts. Emails bounce and the support email address I was given from a chap on the phone apparently does not warrant the decency to reply to my email sent to it. What happened to the super fast efficient service that made us use them for the past two years over all others? HBJB

That's the exact problem we were having but after a rather timely call from my account manager to see how things were going he upped the licenses by quite a few (I forget how many but it was enough that we have never had the issue again). Take Tom's advice and call the account manager. They're willing to listen and understand that schools are different from your average business user. HBJB

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice and reassurance. I'm just wondering if there will be any problems upgrading SQL 2005 Express to full SQL 2005 for our SIMS server if there is another piece of software using SQL Express as well. We have Schools Cash Office & Lettings software (BPR Solutions) that shares the same server. Both SIMS and the BPR Solutions packages show in the SQL Server Service Manager. Will they both move over or can I select just to migrate SIMS? I don't want to start on this in case it all goes pear shaped because of this and I get to a point of no return before I find out. Looking thorough the SIMS documentation for upgrading it suggests that you can move just the SIMS database over but doesn't say if full SQL and Express will work happily together. I suspect they will but would like confirmation. Cheers HBJB

Many thanks. You got it about right. We will have a separate server and we need external access for parents etc. It seems like a lot of money to pay but I guess that we could potentially have 2,000 odd parents accessing the server (however in reality it'll be about 10 ). Cheers, HBJB

Hi all, We have a Smoothwall School Guardian setup here that appears to no longer be able to install system updates. All we get is a 'failed MD5' message (I've checked the MD5 and they're the same). Downloading the updates and applying them manually gives the following result: 'The update could not be installed. It is either corrupt, or it is for a different versin'. This always used to work but it seems for the past month or two it hasn't updated anything. On an unrelated note - we are getting a message saying the boot partition is full. It is but I don't know what to do about it. Any ideas? Cheers HBJB

I've trawled through this thread for a definitive answer to my license query but I can't find one and I'm getting no joy from our MS School Agreement supplier. Sorry for the essay but I need to be quite specific. Here's what we want to do: We want to setup a SharePoint server internally. We will need access to this server's output from within school for students and staff and from outside of school for students, staff, parents and governors etc. The intention is to use it for VLE/Intranet purposes and to report attendance and assessment details to parents etc. Here's what I'm confused about: Our MS School Agreement states that we have 500 or so Office SharePoint CALs included so I assume we're covered for in school use, (but we do not have the server software itself as yet). This document (from MS) states (implies?) that if a product requires an external connector license schools get it free. Our supplier insists that we need to spend either £4.25 per student for access (1,100 of them) or nearly £5,000 for the 'Internet' version. Does Sharepoint come under the type of software that requires an external connector or is that only Exchange? Gaahh! Any pointers welcome (or contacts at MS that could clarify). Cheers HBJB

Me too - it's long overdue and I've mentioned it to them on several occasions. I thought there was a change request a while back about this. They must have deleted it because they didn't like it.
