That's true to a point - our staff don't really notice they're using a remote app. There are a few anomalies that we've found though. One is that it takes the (Windows) theme from the RDS server so make sure you have them matched if you don't want them to look different and another, somewhat irritating thing, and one we've not managed to resolve is that some new windows - say from a report or a dialog box will pop up in the background i.e. behind the application and you have to alt+tab to get at it. Other than that it's all good and we only have about 4 people on the 'full' version now. As mentioned, shared drives are only needed for the legacy apps (the ones that are not yet integrated into .net). HBJB

Which version Reval and tills? I could do with a new reval unit but it needs to be the later version (with the dual network ports). I assume since you've upgraded that these are the older ones. HBJB

Hmmm I'm also getting worried about Misco. Our account manager is great but his hands are tied and as a result service is suffering. Looking around at alternative suppliers now. Shame really since we buy loads from them. Hey ho. I find they all go that way in the end. HBJB

Ah - they're Play 5 ones. I have a mixture of 1s and 3s with a soundbar and sub at home so needed the bridge for the remote speakers in my 'man cave' etc. HBJB

One of our departments has just bought a load of Sonos speakers but didn't buy a bridge (I have Sonos at home so know so know how to connect it all up). Naturally, they didn't tell the network team they were getting it despite all IT purchasing having to go through us - 'They're speakers - not IT they cried'. Not quite the same when you need wireless in a building that hasn't got any APs in it. I'm guessing they won't work without the bridge (I have a multiple room setup at home so defo need one). They want two rooms covered and I can get a new AP in there as fortunately for them it was in the plan to do this summer (not that they knew that before buying it though). Thanks HBJB

Ambidextrous here too. Can do everything with my right hand that I can do with the left but write with my left and wear a watch on my left wrist. Mouse on the right but have no issues with it on the left - just the way my desk is laid out When I was at school I clearly remember being told (nearly forced) to write with my right hand but for a while ended up writing with my left hand for the left page then swapping to my right hand for the right page. Ended up settling for left but not consciously. I very often switch hands to finish a job. I did a plastering course at my local college recently and was driving the instructor mad because I'd change hands halfway through skimming. Seemed to be ok though - which he also couldn't get a grasp on. HBJB

The 'right to be forgotten' law doesn't only affect Google although you'd think they were the only one it applies to based on coverage of the law. Google is specifically mentioned but the law applies to all search engines (http://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/files/factsheets/factsheet_data_protection_en.pdf). Where are the other sites take down request pages? HBJB

We recently bought a room full of of the Dell 7020 AIOs and they seem fine. As mentioned there's a certain wow factor as they look tidy. There's also less for the kids to rip off or break HBJB

I'm ok with sweets being there - I never really got pestered to buy and I have enough willpower not to pick things up for myself even if tempted to do so. What I really want at the checkouts are all the things I've forgotten to get whilst walking around the store in the first place That's why I love online shopping - no temptation, no impulse buying and saves a fortune. We've had similar requests and have denied them on the basis that there's plenty of nudity available - even under some innocent search terms. We also make all requests got through our helpdesk with the reason why they want it unblocked listed so there's some accountability if there's anything that slipped past our normally vigilant eyes. May I slightly divert this thread? I've been asked to look into this as a much wider topic / project but aside from the 'sales' bumph I can't find any technical documents regarding how it's setup and what we'd need to do to implement it. Is there anyone out there with a 'how to' guide? I'm after info like integration into our existing setup, migration of files to OneDrive if appropriate (is it even necessary?) stuff like that. All my requests to suppliers for information has fallen on deaf ears it would seem so I'm chasing my tail at the moment. Thanks HBJB

Well exactly. I have nothing more to add. ... well, I do but I can't really say it here. Oh - go on then The trouble is they've probably got a price from a sales person and now think that's it. We WILL need to upgrade our entire wireless (c £120k for us), we WILL need to get extra internet bandwidth (we currently have 100MB) but we'd also need to have it piped in via a different route for redundancy as it can't be down at all with 'cloud' files etc, we WILL need to find a cloud solution that meets all the relevant legal requirements, we WILL need to find a solution for our MIS which we don't have a web interface for, we WILL have to find a solution to projecting from them ... there are many more 'we wills' but .... I don't wish to sound negative to the idea because I think the principle is good. It's the practicalities that make it unworkable currently. Trouble is that no one has thought past the shiny side of things and I'm the one looking pessimistic because all I can put forward are cost implications and issues. HBJB

Yep - I'd like to know please. Just had a rather interesting chat with someone high up that seems to think that just buying 2000 odd iPads and ditching the existing PCs will be the perfect solution for both students and staff. What about setup, purchasing and pushing apps, maintenance, security, storage and charging, existing files access, wireless infrastructure upgrades to support them all, accessing existing software that only works on Windows, anything with Flash, printing, upgrading internet pipes etc. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. ... oh - and why am I just finding out about it after the decision has been made !!! There was a time that you could see everything from any school that was connected to any of their networks. We would sometimes be able to connect to printers in a completely different school and print out test pages (if we were so inclined) . Not sure if it's still that bad now though as we ditched them a few years back. Shocking setup. That's why we all had to have the IP addresses they assigned to us - you couldn't expand the range without causing a conflict with another school. HBJB

Nope - we're under 1,000 FTE but it made sense to amalgamate them. They didn't expire at the same time either but they were very accommodating over this - probably because there was only a month or so in it. HBJB

We managed to successfully combine our separate site EES agreements into one 'Trust' one. Since we have a number of staff that teach in more than one of the schools in the trust it made the price drop even further. Hats off to MS for changing to FTE counts. HBJB

Exactly - it's not about passwords or the fact that it's a school laptop - it's about them potentially having it on screen and walking away to make the dinner or having someone look over their shoulder. You cannot guarantee that the data is safe. HBJB
