  1. We had the same thing done in the summer. I liaised with the contractor to make sure I / he was aware of which areas were not to be switched off without letting us know beforehand and which areas were 'non critical' so they could be done first. Because of this we had about a day of downtime rather than the forecast two weeks. Talk to someone now! HBJB
  2. Not well enough then because I had this just a few weeks ago You can have the log files in a different place but in a DR situation when I went to re-attach the database(s) it wouldn't let me unless the log files were sat in the same directory. HBJB
  3. This happened to me. I moved into a house and for years (about 6 or 7) the previous occupant, who had left with loads of debts, carried on taking loans out under my address but her name. When the letters arrived I just wrote 'No longer at this address' and posted them back to sender. I even had debt collectors turn up at the door but they were very good and as soon as I could prove that I was a different person (utility bill, drivers licence etc.) they went away. After this I went to the police because I was worried about what would happen if I wasn't there to give them this info. I was worried that they might break in and just take my goods. The police said that it would be illegal for them to do so. All I really did was send the letters back and eventually they stopped. I assumed she'd been round all of the lenders and they got wise to her. Either that or she found a new address to forge. Don't do anything rash and remember you're not supposed to open mail that's not addressed to you. Cheers HBJB
  4. Did you store your log files on a different drive? If so SIMS expects them to be in the same place (why this is so is a different question). If they're not together put them together and later use SSMS to move the log file. HBJB
  5. iSpring Free converts PowerPoints to Flash. HBJB
  6. I couldn't find it for looking when I searched and I still can't! Thanks a million. D'oh!! - found it now - accidentally when I was looking for something else HBJB
  7. Is there a Discover manual? We have it but no-one knows how to use it I've got the SD10 & SD11 PowerPoints and the sales gumph but not an actual user manual. Cheers HBJB
  8. ... and while we're at it - get rid of that prat Peston - he's really getting on my tits now. Grrrr self righteous idiot. HBJB
  9. Thats about the third time that job's been up in around a year! Nice school though - posh. HBJB
  10. We're allowing phones to be used in certain teaching areas now. There was no effective way of stopping their illicit use anyway so the decision was made to allow students to use them as a learning tool - obviously with guidelines in place. Not sure how it'll pan out but hey ho. Let's wait and see. They certainly have their place, it's finding it that's the problem. Cheers HBJB
  11. Exactly the same here too! I would really like not to have to supply laptops to teachers and the expectation here is that they should have one regardless of whether they've got their own PC / laptop sat at home as well. 90% of the laptops never get seen again (PC in every classroom) and those we do see are often installed with kiddie games and the like. If there's an official document that says that it's not a legal requirement to supply them one (our staff are under the impression that it is), and replace it when they've broken it or when they thinks 'it's getting a bit old' then if I could be pointed in the direction of it I and my budget would be most grateful. We're actually thinking along the lines of removing the static PCs in classroom so they have to use their work supplied laptop for work related tasks. Cheers HBJB
  12. I would install the free Papercut monitor programme and then get SL to jump up and down on them until the problem goes away (only really works if they're not a member of SL of course ) HBJB
  13. Thanks will try those later. I chose not to setup the Cloud bits when it re-booted for the first time. Should I have done? I didn't seem like anything I'd particularly want to use. Cheers HBJB
  14. No problems updating one of my iPads last night but now none of the programs work (except the defaul Apple ones). They just flick on then off again. Tried a reset - no joy. HBJB
  15. Doesn't the fact that browsers can be told to act like others mean that somewhere along the line standards are not being stuck to? The sooner everyone creates something that works exactly to the rules the better and we can all stop bickering about which one works best and just go on to assess added features rather than what should be base functionality. My 2p worth. HBJB
  16. I was thinking about this just the other day when I was reading about a case (that made the headlines) where there was an email trail going back several years. I can see why this would be desirable at the highest level but surely they don't expect us cash strapped schools to dedicate TBs of space to old email that in all probability isn't going to get looked at. Yes I know the reasons why, and yes I probably would if I could but without the resources ... HBJB
  17. c £25K for the full package (parent portal, MIS link, website design etc). ... and in our experience it's still got much that needs fixing to make it work in the real world although the helpdesk are pretty good at fixing glitches. HBJB
  18. This was working in April when I flew out of Heathrow. As I recall it wasn't for general use but for business class and above passengers back then (maybe during the trial they restricted it). It certainly looked funky though. HBJB
  19. We getthe freezing / 30 second wait until it shuts as well. But only if you don't save anything. Although if you run it then move any object and click exit without saving it shuts ok also. Very weird! No answer yet either - just more info. HBJB
  20. One thing you have to bear in mind is if you use any version of Crystal Reports other than the FMS one on the system (SuccessMaker etc.) some of the FMS reports will be borked. To fix, drop the FMS Crystal Reports DLLs into the FMS folder and all's well again. HBJB
  21. I get a 404 on the link posted above but if you use the 'Return to the Capita CS home page' link you can log in to support net from there. I always use http://support.capitaes.co.uk/login/login.asp Cheers HBJB
  22. I'm a little confused by the inconsistency of it all. BT block sites because they give people the means to find downloadable copyrighted material but don't block iTunes etc. eventhough it gives people the means to rip CDs and be in breach of copyright laws. HBJB
  23. I use an iPad for RDP, Logmein, VNC and all of our web based tools that I need to get at on the hoof. I fooled one of our Mac lovers recently by having an RDP session up and running and telling him I managed to install Windows Server 2008 on it. I thought he was going to faint HBJB
  24. Nice! Better than faffing around in cmd. HBJB
  25. Correct. I've been using it on 64 bit W7 for over a year now. HBJB
