  1. I found with less than 256GB SSDs that Sibelius Sounds (on top of Logic Loops) was just one step too far and the disks would fill up with user profiles. If they want to stick with them, using Carbon Copy Cloner and putting in decent sized SSDs, then locally installing the Sounds, will be a good value upgrade.
  2. If you have a beasty onsite SIMS server, you won't need anything like the power of that any more - you won't need an SQL license either. You'll need a server that does the TPCs (Wonde etc) through the VPN and any scheduled reports, but it shouldn't need any great amount of storage or processing capability.
  3. Nothing yet, but we will be making the move in September (or that’s the plan, but it has already moved back a year since first mooted). I’ll feed back. Worried about our TPCs and existing MIS integration via commandreporter.
  4. Tried listing it on here?
  5. Unfortunately it's 5 years from launch, not purchase. Bit of a stinger.
  6. If I have loads, they'll go through a WEEE recycler who we pay to destroy them (with a certificate of destruction). Take your pick - we often use PRM. If they're few, or server disks, I smoosh and smite them myself.
  7. In PS: # Acquire a list of DOCX files in a folder $Files=GET-CHILDITEM "\\server\share\foldersource\*.DOCX" -Recurse $Word=NEW-OBJECT –COMOBJECT WORD.APPLICATION Foreach ($File in $Files) { # open a Word document, filename from the directory $Doc=$Word.Documents.Open($File.fullname) # Swap out DOCX with PDF in the Filename $Name=($Doc.Fullname).replace("docx","pdf") # Save this File as a PDF in Word 2010/2013/2016/2019/2022 $Doc.saveas([ref] $Name, [ref] 17) $Doc.close() }
  8. It’s been a thing with dyslexic and vision-impaired students for many years. Not sure what else you can put in place? Generally the exams officer/ SENCO will email out all access arrangements before an assessment period, and these have to be adhered to (e.g. laptop for exams, enlarged materials, reader or scribe). This should be included in that. If those arrangements are ignored by the teacher running the assessment, they get roasted like a whole chicken.
  9. I moved staff to it last year, and now beginning on the student PCs. Had to make a few Group Policy changes to ensure it works properly and can update itself. Only done large scale within new images so far, but an install script should be okay if done out of hours, and room by room!
  10. Ours is off a classroom, in a separate room. No glass panel in the door to smash, but if there was I'd hope the usual double glazed and wire reinforced glass would be a pretty major impediment. As much as a mortise lock anyway.
  11. I've skipped May and went to the June updates instead, installed over the weekend. Our AoVPN/NPS/RADIUS/CA all seem to be working, but not extensively tested all services. We don't use certs with our internal wifi which I know was one issue identified.
  12. We’re on the mk2 (mk1 was 802.11n) version of our externally managed Cisco system. Now ax APs, with 300Mbps uplinks - they’ve been really impressive and wireless laptop suites actually work.
  13. Those definitely have a value - they're the same age as our newest Macs! They'll run Big Sur but not Monterey.
  14. Our new PCs specced for this curriculum have 8GB. It's going to be an issue pretty shortly, but I can't customise that spec! The GPUs should be fine for most basic work the kids will do (Intel 630).
  15. Immersion heaters are pretty brutal cost wise - it's basically a giant kettle element with associated costs. My first port of call would be to better insulate the pipe runs, if possible, and look at further lagging for the tank. Cheap and cheerful.
  16. So you have a hot water supply in the garage, and you're wondering about how to efficiently use that? Or your boiler is in the garage and feeds your tank from there?
  17. Yeah, bit of an oversight. Hardware RAID is slightly less of an issue now with modern drive reliability, Windows built in disk management etc but I'd still be speccing them on a new build, especially with HDDs rather than SSDs.
  18. Doesn't look like you have a discrete RAID controller. Not to worry: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00026445en_us
  19. Syntax For my unreal ability to code badly.

No need to migrate, if you don't want to. Make sure you have the categories fairly tight so it doesn't download everything (mine only downloads on approval).
  21. Managed to get our old Eclipse (on-site Silverlight) install working in Edge in IE Mode, I have removed IE from Start menus across the school and I'm pretty hopeful there's nothing else that needs it.
  22. As above, forget the current. That's not the most important thing here - getting the flow rate as highas possible with a quieter fan is. The Noctua fans above may well be much quieter, or you can look at higher voltage fans (e.g. 48v) which function and flow well at 24v. Bit of trial and error. Sometimes re-greasing the bearings on the old fan can help - but rarely!
  23. To slow them down, you'll either need to drop the supply voltage to the existing fans (which typically involves heat) or use fans rated for higher voltage that can operate at 24v (therefore at a slower speed). The current draw is not that relevant, without them having monster motors on them. Check the supply voltage to the existing fans. Are they varied in speed by a built-in temperature controller in the enclosure?
