Log on the machine and run GPResult see if the policy is listed in the applied section. If it is then run GPUpdate /force and go from there. Are there no events relating to any of this? If that doesn't work then a complete rejoin may be necessary, or just a reimage (sometimes quicker than playing around, although I know we like to play until things are fixed )

I have to say that VLE's are a weird thing, and very hard to integrate successfully into the teaching and learning at schools. From my experience VLE's tend to be.... how to put this..... clunky. Moodle has a nice interface for most things, it isn't as slick as it could be, but I can guarantee that the sales pitches you see from these 'glowing' VLEs really arent as instantly brilliant as they may seem. They all require a huge amount of work to get into a useable state and require staff cooperation and support to get off and become a part of the curriculum.

I would try booting into safe mode and turning down the display driver acceleration in the display settings. This is not a fix as such but a temporary work around. To me it sounds like you have an issue with the card itself. You could always let W7 download the driver from Windows update as it will be a known good driver that it downloads. Have you tried rebuilding the machine with the original discs again?

You could always use it as a place to start the migration to a new version? Backup the moodle database and files and reapply on the new server?

I agree with this, the reviews are awesome for WP7 I was actually quite surprised!! I really hope Windows 8 is still oriented towards the mouse first off and has a touch user interface which is interchangeable. I really can't stand touch interfaces for the majority of work. I seriously cant imaging coding with a touch screen keyboard!!! People seem to be going on about OSx Lion a lot? Is it really that much different? They just seem to re-badge the same garbage with a new name! Its still horiffic to use in a networked environment!!

You should be able to access the file server and remove their 'handles' whcih may be open on the files. Right click my computer->manage-> then find the file sharing and open folders and files parts. In there you can see who has open files and if necessary remove the handles.

You can apply the permission read only for the student folder view to This folder only (im guessing you would have to do this at each year group level) and it will not propagate through the sub directories. Combined with the security permission you have already described (subfolders and files only) should give you the result you are looking for. It should also be said that this assumes that the share permissions on the drive are set up so that everyone has full control (share permissions are much less finely grained so allowing full control here doesn't affect the finer control of NTFS). Giving people full control over their home directories basically lets them 'take ownership' of files inside those directories. Are there any security risks for this? As they will almost always be owners of 95% of the files in their directories anyway?

Lol you are adding links faster than I can read! Is the MSI generator supported by capita? Unfortunately we still use 2003 and MDT doesn't seem to see it as the Office style package. I have a 2007 disc but with only a few licences its not worth trying for now will probably give it a go later though. Have you managed to get SP1 to work? I have heard issues with W7 SP1 and MDT and that it cant be used as a package and instead has to be run as an application?

O dear! Yeah its great, I've been working on it this week, got the main XP deployment done and split the normal apps away from the image (apart from the wonderous SIMS) and am now testing W7. Getting a few issues with W7 sysprep though will read on about this 'audit' mode I thinks

+1 Impero is brilliant for a replacement for RM tutor, it also has loads of other features like remote event viewer and remote command prompt etc. V useful for remote debugging as the command prompt is totally transparent to the user and they will have no idea you are using their pc (Unless you use shutdown.exe!)

Why not? I could quite easily rank parties in order of preference. All it would have meant is that parties would have to appeal to all constituents and make sure that their voice is heard. FPTP is only a pain in the butt because if I vote for who I wanted to in my constituency then my vote would mean nothing, which means I am forced to tactically vote.

It would be very unlikely for the MBR to just 'go'. It is totally replaceable as its software anyway with the vista boot disc. Usually you can boot and do the auto repair and you will be back in. What is more likely is that you could have RAM or HDD issues. Get the ultimate boot CD and run the memtestx86 and seatools for dos tests and run them through. See if you have errors and report back. It is either that or you have an OEM pc which is expecting a special 'tattoo' (such as packard bells). These machines require some user setup if the hard drive is ever formatted to ensure the recorvery discs will output the correct drivers.

Can I ask what drives this need for iPads in schools? When compared to a full featured laptop they fall down significantly and I would think that as a classroom teaching tool the iPad would be far past its original design goal and would not perform tasks which we would require from them. One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of flash support, and the increasing amount of online educational resources which rely on it.

I had a similar issue but mine was related to the fact I was using a PNG background. Changed to JPG and the problem went away :s Was a bit weird tbh! How are you finding it? Are you using the Python or .NET client?

I believe there are a lot of posts on Google regarding this. Mac OS X v10.6: Successive Active Directory users receive "You are unable to log in to the user account (username) at this time" alert See if that post is what you are experiencing. We are also having issues with OSx home directories, mainly with permissions. I have mapped the OSx home drives to the users normal windows documents meaning that OSx has now created the normal library, desktop, documents etc within their directories already. The weirdness comes in that students can only write, not delete or use files from the areas auto created by OSx. For some reason it has left the student as the owner of the directory, but given them no permissions to do anything with the files inside!! Only an administrator can delete files! Anyone experienced this before?

You using PEAP-MS-CHAP? I found it was machine passwords timing out (they have a lifespan of about a month I think and a timeout of 2 weeks or so in which if the laptop reconnects during the second 2 week period the password will be downloaded and stored until required, I thinks). This seems to show up in education as the teachers and student machines are not used for large periods of time during the holidays usually and during this time the machine passwords time out. The certificates provided by autoenrollment are usually set to last for a whole year so it is unlikely that certificate policy is incorrect here. I have switched us to EAP-TLS which has removed the failing to connect issue, have had to switch to machine only authentication as we don't have roaming certificates and the users would have too many certificates if I turned on autoenrollment for users!

Agreed using plasmas is a terrible idea, for one they are hugely power hungry and also they suffer from EXTREME burn in issues which LCD's do not (anywhere near as much) We had some Plasmas running a dvd (when I was at PC World) and it went back to the menu then stayed there all day. Needlesss to say the TV pretty much had the spider man logo burnt into the display!!

Im running on an EeePC 901 with 1GB ram, apart from the problems above its awesome! Might recreate a new layout from scratch and see how we get along

New installation, clients and server both on 1.2.2. I have had the same screen running for a few hours now (its all in a test environment) and the won't change unless the client is killed and restarted. Interestingly the flash clock that I had crashes as well meaning that the time sticks (the problem happens without this too) I expect its to do with the layout as it worked originally I am just not sure what has happened in the meantime!!
