Thanks! I notice the website is changing in terms of its licence wording now! Thanks for your help and speedy response!

Excellent, am just looking at the possiblity of standardising the software on our Maths dept PC's!! I am just in the process of filling in the information, just to check does this licence include use of the 'Free' resource pack? I have created the network packages for the main Promethean Boards and am just testing them out now. Thanks

By Teacher Consent Licence does that mean purchase the Professional Licence? We have 1 board in our maths Dept that would benefit from an edition of the Promethean Software as all the rest of the boards in maths which have been purchased since this one (a long time ago) are promethean. We would benefit from just being able to use the basic resources included with the 'Personal' edition would the teacher consent licence cover that? Or is it only covering the use of resources purchased from Promethean Planet?

How do your users report problems during lessons?
Jamo replied to apeo's topic in How do you do....it?
Has anyone tried OSTicket? I am just setting this up for a test, basically it can monitor an email account so a teacher could email a problem to an address and it would get picked up and placed in our ticket queue. When a reply is made the teacher then gets an email and can reply directly to the email and the problem will be logged as a reply in the help desk system. Seems like a really good system but only testing will tell. -
FWIW you can download the old Vista one from the MS Site still and it works on W7.

Windows Live MM is soooooo feature low, its worse than the original Movie Maker, the vista version is by far the best one that has been released. For the rest of us we could wait for VLMC (VLC movie creator), althoguh currently it is soooooooooooooo buggy!

Aldi sells the weirdest stuff. I do some shopping in there and in the last 2 weeks I have seen.... Car polisher A toilet seat An all in one triathalon suit.... A cookie maker Its like someone shopped in argos by typing random numbers on the pads!

The red X just means the file is not in the same location as it was before. Usually if they have saved to a USB stick the movie files are on a different drive letter ie USB was E in one and D in another. Can try putting hte video files in the same location as the movie project. We use the XP movie maker here, it is possibly the most unreliable software EVER!

O dear! Yes it should it has been copied and pasted from another package and I edited it! Obviously unsuccessfully!! Thanks for your help

We have recently been hit by a fairly minor USB stick virus which turned out to be SHeuR2.MHX. I have created a batch file for the virus removal and I have been able to run it on the affected machines. The problem now is that our AV RM Virus Protect 4 (or to normal people Symantec Corp) doesn't pick it up, either on the USB stick or on the host machine, this means reinfection from a USB stick is highly likely and we will be back to square 1 very quickly. I have come across KB971029 which disables the autorun functionality on all but optical media meaning that even an infected USB cannot be used to infect the networked machines. The hotfix comes as an exe file which I haven't ever packaged up before. [General] Name=KB971029 Version=v1.0.0.0 [Package] Description=Windows XP SP2 Security Update KB925486 Version=1.0.0.0 OS=5.1.2WS ExeFile=KB971029.exe UninstallExeFile=c:\windows\$NTUninstallKB971029$\Spuninst\spuninst.exe Addcommand= /passive /quiet /norestart UninstallCommand= /passive /quiet /norestart reboots=1 Do I need anything else in the .ini file the accompanies the exe file? Also can you add custom packages to the tools folder rather than the applications? Apologies if these are silly questions! Many Thanks

You have pretty much described exactly as we use it. A document storage area where things are uploaded. I have set up template pages and its all up and running successfully but it really isn't great and certainly wont be of any benefit being able to recieve it on the move!!! We have just tried to disable stickies on it (un-monitorable messaging system within Fronter) and have just found out that if we do it disables the ability of students to see eachothers profiles and interact! What quality design decisions!

This does of course mean that you would have to have an awesome VLE to make these devices at all useful if you couldn't log on to the network. Ours is Fronter, and for this purpose it would be totally useless, teachers would have to spend hours longer creating resources which could be used effectively on Fronter. Plus most bought in resources use the Flash player and java extensively which would be so badly supported on a device like this.

They are useful in their own right. I'm sure a course in iPad use would be great too, but lets not pretend that an iPad can replace books and be a wonder device which will make kids engage better in class.
-
And when said student gets told to 'draw their conclusions' on the project which they have been working on and type CONCLUSIONS over a photo becuase they cant understand English.... Nothing can replace the fundemental core subjects, without them we are missing the point of education!
-
Surely the teachers shuld be booking the IT suites in advance then rather than waiting to the last minute and finding that someone else beat you to it! Its common sense surely! What specialist equipment can you use on the iPad or netbooks that you cant use on a desktop?
-
Talking of laptops, does anyone else here use CC3 and find laptops such a big pain due to the fact that they HAVE to install updates on reboot? No silent installs while someone is working. It means I have to go and turn on the laptops after a hotfix has been applied!! A right pain!
-
I think that a netbook will be more useful and to be honest better value than an iPad. At over twice the price and with half the functionality I can't see why anyone would want one. Its not apple bashing its the truth! If microsoft port their Windows Phone 7 OS to an mPad or something or other I would be saying exactly the same thing!

Put it simply. Cost. Are we prepared as a nation to fund all schools to have iPads for all pupils? And for there to be a REAL way of getting these devices repaired / serviced? A lot of thought gets put into these ideas of laptops for pupils, but then no thought into the aftercare. Who fixes them if they go wrong, who pays? If again they are only for the rich as the parents have to pay then again we have a divide in society. Books and paper works, we are just beginning to scratch the surface with things like VLE's so why don't we concentrate on one thing at a time and do it well rather than have a system where loads of things can be done but not very effectively and cost efficient.

A horse cant travel at 80mph down the M5. They are popular becuase there is a need for them. Can you honestly say there is a NEED for these expensive items in schools? Will they be using them to write on instead of books? What happens when a pen goes through the screen and it needs to be replaced? Replace a 1 pound book? Ah no its a 300 pound screen which you can ONLY get from Apple. Show me something the iPad can do better and I will retract my comments. And paper weight or comedy sized phone don't count.

Now I know where the billions of wasted government money goes

Dont most laptop supplies contain an auto switch for the 110v supply anyhow? Usually they say 100-240V and all you need is to get a new plug or a teeny adaptor so it fits in the hole
-
Am I reading this thread correctly? That people are ACTUALLY thinking of spending money on gimmicky gadgets for use in schools?
-
Hi CMSSBRIE, Could you clarify the licence terms for the new 1.4 version? Are we allowed to use the Personal Edition still without a promethean board or are we required to apply for a licence? I am slightly confused!
