We have an unmanaged system here, we can only use 10 -12 laptops before its unusable. Only way around it is to have different SSID's on the AP's and have the laptops connect to specific AP's rather than for them to find the strongest signal, it will evenly spread them then. As for the max number of clients check that there isn't any "load balancing" on the AP as some unmanaged ones just use this as a limit to how many clients they can have and don't "do" load balancing at all.

You can get useful apps on Android like Google Maps, Facebook etc I have to say compared to WinMo versions they are so much nicer. I ahve never used the iPhone versions though. I am glad to see someone porting SCUMMvm to Android using the native code SDK

By that do you mean, can you waste a lot of time looking for useless apps on both phones? Answer yes Last time I checked the Android market had 20000 apps avaiable and that was at the last part of last year so it may have gone up since. Crapple Store has 100,000 although I would expect that to slow as Apple have recently introduced some tough lines on how they want the app store to be. Android seems to be the Free-er choice imho.

We have managed to get staff to use Fronter in the end. A bit of pushing is what is required. We are using it for revision mostly and more as a document storage facility than its primary purpose. I have created pages for all the subjects using templates and then they are just managing a tree of folders like explorer in windows. Not pretty or ideal but it works well for our requirements and considering its free its not too bad. There are definiately better solutions in terms of real VLE integration with schools, Moodle provides a much more solid VLE platform and has some really useful features but all of them require significant staff time to implement well. Mmm iSCSI sounds interesting, we use Symantec Backup Exec would it be licenced for backing up the iSCSI drive also? (assuming we have a basic licence). Sorry if that is a dumb question!

I have seen the iSCSI option but I was hoping to set up something that won't need much configuration. Basically the machine is an old server (WAY overkill for a NAS) 2GB RAM 2x2GHz Xeons and RAID5 array for storage, but its gonna be chucked or be a storage server basically!! It doesn't need to be that fast, just reliable and easy to use. I will have to try Openfiler again tonight I think, I must have done something dumb! In what way does Openfiler behave better with AD than freeNAS? So far FreeNAS seems pretty well behaved apart from permission had to be set in the advanced security settings for the folders in Windows. Doesn't anyone use any of these for anything but backup? Just thinking here about concurrent connections... Thanks

Hello! I am doing some research on the use of FreeNAS in my establishment. We currently are storage short! The servers we currently have are small in terms of storage space and a NAS would be extremely useful. I need a solution which is reliable and usable on an RM CC3 system. How do you use FreeNAS? Do you just map the drive to a share with anon permissions or use local or AD authentication? Have you come across any problems using the system? I have tried to use OpenFiler but have found the interface less than appealing and couldn't for the life of me get it to connect to my test server at home whereas I managed to join FreeNAS to the domain no problem! Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

It will usually be becuase the COA is a "DELL" copy of Windows, as vendors will buy a large number of OEM copies and these copies are given a vendor code which usually will work on any COA but it looks like yours is one of the ones that doesn't. I would give DELL a call, that is unless you were supposed to make the disc yourself, which is becoming more common with OEM machines?

Mmm it won't be missing have you tried all the partitions and made sure that the Windows partition is marked as ACTIVE and BOOT? If you have an XP install disk you can use the repair option and type : fixmbr It should attempt to fix it. Then type exit and restart.

You need: English Super Grub Disk Windows fix Boot of Windows It will then list your partitions and this is where you select your main Windows partition which unless you have a backup partition should be the only one left

Ive never tried it from USB stick! I forget that netbooks don't have CD drives! lol SGD Howto make - Super Grub Disk Wiki. There is a guide on there for downloading a utility in windows and creating the USB stick w/ a bootable partition on it. (Under the windows title)

If you don't have the original XP disk to boot from, get a Super GRUB disc from online and boot to it. Then use the menus to auto repair your bootloader. All that has happened is your MBR is pointing towards GRUB which is/was on your other partition which is now gone. The XP bootloader will still be there it just needs to be pointed towards with the MBR. Super Grub Disk Homepage
