HI - Preston here. IT Tech for 15 years but now a new IT admin with a steep learning curve ahead. Working for medium-sized facility, two domains and very little AD experience. No documentation left by last guy, only outdated topology map.

Hi guys, from Colchester in good old "but really terrible" Essex! I have not long been made a IT Apprentice..... at 28. Long story but Bipolar, family.... you know the drills.

 

But after working in game development years ago for a big major company *they make final fantasy* I wanted to use my brain for some good. After years of hardware knowledge, and pen/hack testing, and the love of helping people... i finally got accepted to work within a school and help everyone out with my knowledge! So far, i feel amazing and i hardly have a frown on my face now days =)

 

Most of my skills come from hands on experience, my frist machine was a Atari 520STe at the age of 4ish. My frist major upgrade to the machine was going from 512k memory to a outstanding 1Meg! after that i was attached to coding and physical upgrades. My frist main PC i brought myself was a intel pentium 4 HT 2.3ghz machine with 1GB ram, and from there, you couldn't remove me from a PC.

 

During this time also spent alot of my time doing Professional gaming, used to play Counter strike 1.2 to CSsource and Dota on Warcraft 3 back in its early days. Sadly, Ex girlfriend ruined that one for me, but for the better. *bipolar+stress+no rest = upset Xell*

 

Anyway that is an insight to myself, and i am not the most skilled, but i hope now i am on course to at least having something i enjoy and making something of myself. =)

Ooh, you've gone the complete opposite of me :p

White hatting/pen testing is something that intrigues me to no end and I'd love to end up working there. I'd love to hear your experiences from the industry, if you're willing. (Maybe via PM to not derail this thread)

Thanks! And my skills was all hand crafted, never had any courses or alike. So being on tor networks and seeing how people did the acts, and how scripts and tools worked was, well made my inquisitive side spark. Just love knowing that people whom can cause harm that way, is something that i can some how stop and provide assistance in some way helps.

 

Sadly i never got to do any of that at my last job years ago, was a QA and boy, i rather not do that again. But if anything pops up here and its interesting i would love to share the story =)

It's even more fun if you each have your own account. We can get to know you as individuals then. That's what edugeek is about... people... who happen to work in IT.

 

Talking of colleagues that have their own accounts, I get the impression that @Boredguy and @DJ-1701 talk to each other more on here than they do at work :D

Yes, he is - but only for when he was helping me with moodle issues. As an enterprise technical architect I don't think there is much we do that would help him :)

Hi All,

 

My name is Nathan and im joining you all to hopefully spread some hype and cheer for GAFE as well as answer any questions around cloud services that may crop up.

I have worked @Haptic (formerly CP Ltd) for well over 3 years now and have escalated myself to lead the team introducing Google Apps for Education to schools nationally.

 

Aside from my working life I am a keen PS4 player - Titles such as Destiny, Division and rocket League seem to take up most of my time. For all you PC gamers out there i'd love to join you but I am unable to remortgage to afford it :D
