We use Progresso at our school unfortunately i have previous 6 years of SIMS.

That we use Progresso, give me SIMS any day but needs must.

I think it has the potential to be amazing.. maybe in 5 years?

But please can you tell me - do you manage room bookings within Progresso or do you use an additional package, and if so which one? I have a rebellion going (which, you know, I'm normally in favour of) from the admin staff over how long it takes for them to assign adhoc bookings, and then these not showing up in Cover anyway!

Sometimes badly

 

Improve your chances of being seen and noticed by making a point of being in the staff room to make yourself a cuppa at break and lunch times as often as possible. Don't hide yourself away no matter how shy you are or how busy you are.

 

Join in with non IT opportunities as they present themselves - school productions, sports day, helping the caretaker. Befriend the admin staff. Listen to their woes and help them out and they'll become your eyes, ears and make sure you don't miss out.

 

All the previous paragraph has to be balanced against your time. Schools can be rewarding places to work if you are prepared to become part of the community. You do have to try to make sure you don't get sucked into expectations of stuff that's way outside your job description. In the first instance though, get out there and be seen as a friendly, helpful, smiling face.

Couldn't agree more with the comments to integrate with other teams and departments. Teachers aren't that bad once you get to know them and if you have a PE department like ours, the PE team are a riot inside and outside work. You'll meet them soon anyway when they hand in a laptop/netbook/camera/video/printer in more pieces than it went out with....

Thanks guys. I work at such a large school - 100 staff across 2 sites- and everyone seems to be in either established or natural teams. When I have time for lunch I try and vary it between the 3 staffrooms. I'm a generally chatty , smiley person and will talk to everyone . I guess it's especially round this time of year ( and end of summer term) when I feel forgotten :-/ ... beginning to sound a bit whiny lol! But - yes , will carry on being friendly and helpful . Also not having anyone to vent with / celebrate with when a techy thing goes worse/better than expected etc... hoping edugeek will help fill that gap ... :-) On a really plus side - really do love my job and pretty am trusted to just get on with it ...

Edugeek is very good at filling that gap

 

If you're able to get to London in January, come and meet us at BETT. And keep an eye open for Edubytes threads in your part of the world. Some of us are meeting in Salisbury tomorrow. The Lancashire lot are arranging a get together. There's been something in Swindon and in London. Nothing formal, just a chance to meet up

Oh @witch... that must be so hard [emoji53]... we humans are (generally) social creatures - comraderie (sp) in the workplace goes a long way... also, just getting recognition for the all the schlepping we do from one support call to another while spinning (in my case at least) a dozen other short term/ long term/ network stability/ learning, research and self taught CPD etc etc plates spinning...
