Can anyone recommend anywhere to get nice cheap *plain* polo shirts that aren't made out of that awful old thick school PE kit material? ATM I'm wearing random ones from ASDA which are lovely comfortable t shirt material but always seem to have some random 'cool' logo on them somewhere...

Matalan! I paid £3 each for my last lot. Usually buy 10 (2 weeks worth, £30 bargin) and replace them every september :)

Oh I wear Black trainers, Black Combats and a polo shirt . . . got a few different colours :)

This is them, although it seems they have now gone up to £4 :0

Shirt and Tie here, though I'd prefer Jeans + T-Shirt if I could since our line of work pretty much has us crawling under desks and the like half the time. Also protective headgear to save us from the chewing gum under the tables! YUCK!

We have to be in a whole suit and tie combo at all times (unless in an office, then jackets can be dropped) in term, makes running network cable fun when you strangle yourself with the tie!, holidays are jeans and shirt.

Tends to be cord trousers and short sleeve shirt, no tie and pullover if needed plus trainers as I suffer pheriphil neuropathy and plantar fasciitis so comfort is the order of the day. Overall professional look I feel with ability to get the job done without presenting H & S danger to myself or others. Being old school I disparity at the standard of some other staff particularly those who think it's acceptable to sport tacky looking tattoos. If staff want tattoos then they should not be visible to students.

Smart casual three days a week if I'm teaching or in meetings, occasionally a tie if needed for more formal meetings, school provided PE kit twice a week as I'm out with the football teams and sometimes a black referee shirt.

I love my job :)

We've got the full black uniform, black cargo, black polo with logos. Simple practical and smart. Used to wear shirt and tie but not very practical when you can be up a ladder one minute, in ceiling voids the next!

School bought black cargo's and safety shoes. Polo shirts with IT Dept logo on or short sleeve shirts with same. Far rather wear those than wreck my own clothes which I did for years before I got these. School hols can wear what we like for me it is T shirt Shorts bare feet and sandals!!

Shirt and tie if kids are in school

As normal other males wear the same unless PE kit is needed that day

Females wear wear whatever the feel is suitable

TA's often wear a school t-shirt although it is not compulsory (there are no males TAs hence I conform to teacher normal)

For male staff shirt and tie when kids present, whatever we like in the holidays. Female staff seem to have considerably more leeway although whatever they wear is supposed to be suitable they don't have enforced blouses/trouser suits etc. In other news, Holy Necrothread batman. :D

If we are doing retro: our apprentice just arrived in a tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows. Mind you he is from Yorkshire so I guess we can forgive him.

Holy necro-thread @Sparticate7990!

But while we are here, female teachers and staff seem to get away with just about anything, I mean literally... Saw one of the younger TA's in the staff room at 9am on a Monday morning and didn't know whether to ask her if she needed a coffee because she'd pulled an all nighter and come straight to work. I mean, she didn't look particularly tired or anything, but she was clearly dressed to go clubbing, vertiginous heels, makeup and everything!

Male teaching staff are required to wear an approximation of a suit and tie. I seem to be OK in suit trousers and a formal shirt with no tie.

Why is it the female members of staff seem to get away with wearing what they want but the male members are told they must wear a suit? I have managed to ditch the suit jacket and tie so far. My old head wanted me in a full suit but the new head hasnt said anything as of yet, i might try a polo shirt next week and see what they say, probably nothing.

It has always been the way in every place where I have worked - if there is a formal dress code then it basically reads

Men MUST wear a suit (or shirt and tie) - women - errr - must wear suitable stuff

I think they get scared when it comes to saying what women can and can't wear in case it starts to look sexist e.g. women must wear a skirt - and there has often been an attitude of 'we can trust women to wear something sensible and suitable - but men need to be told" - and that goes back to my first job (non school) in 1981!!

Short sleeve shirt and dark jeans, black shoes. Anything else would get ruined with the amount of cobwebs and floors I seem to find myself rolling around on/in!

I wear a suit to work, just seems the right thing to do! The teachers also come in well dressed.

Same.

My technicians wear shirt/trousers - semi smart looking. To be honest with them getting their hands dirty (and at times me) we should be wearing more what the caretakers wear. A set kit which doesn't matter if it gets covered in dust, paint or mud.

Trouser suit, it's expected apparently... though I do get a little frustrated by the half dressed female teachers/TA's when I get pulled up on wearing black trainers (I still wear black trainers anyway)

We get to wear smart trousers and shoes but school branded polo shirt, it makes it much easier when crawling round under desks and such.

Suit, tie - the works.

Which makes absolutely no bloody sense since I'm constantly doing manual labour and opening dirty/dusty computers.

I've asked for workwear, the DT, science, art and site team all have it. Apprently we don't need it. I think they think we sit here all day staying clean
