I don't really see myself as young anymore xD Work in a professional environment therefore jeans is a huge no. Even if the code of conduct allowed it i wouldnt feel right turning up working in a school looking like i was off to the pub. I wouldn't either, but I'd prefer some workers trousers like the site team and maybe a polo shirt. I'm sick of buying cheap suits (I've tried expensive too but they rarely last a few weeks) Yeah, I don't mind these work pants with the extra pockets etc, they're a bit baggy but they serve a function so they still feel somewhat professional. Ignored… they're my toes. I don't see anywhere in the contract where they will pay for missing digits due to an accident on their part.

I've not had a situation where I've needed them as of yet either, though there was one time I needed a helmet as I dropped a switch on my head.
mcoyne Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 We've gone for navy blue workwear trousers with sewn in pleats, wedge-wood blue shirts and navy blue jumpers, both tops with the school logo embroidered on. Looks smart but no tie and it's great whether you're sat at a desk or doing the dirty jobs. Plus, we're not spending our own money on work clothes! We also need to invest in H&S gear, such as hard hats, hobnail boots and hi-vis jackets. This is partly because we have to go up a scaffolding tower to maintain the theater projector and these are essential items for that. Technically speaking we should also be getting mercury filtered face masks, for doing the bulbs.

I think if you're even doing so much as going up a ladder with a screwdriver, you need to have them in case you get one in your foot! If you're going up a tower, then you definitely need them - it's the regs.

They are better quality than I could afford and if they get destroyed it doesn't matter so much. (mind you, I buy a lot from charity shops anyway as I love doing it) 2

This carries items that other Oxfam charity shops can't shift or rotate out, and EVERYTHING is £1. Hell if I need something to get grubby under the car in then a whole outfit is £2. I could literally change the oil wearing a suit! Occasionally I'll drop in and if I even vaguely fancy something/have a use for something it's just bought up - girlfriend and I do a lot of frolicking through woods and so on, so semi-disposable fleeces are great as well as gym clothing for me. That's reason enough for me to wear steel boots.

witch Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I don't wear steel toecaps but maybe I should - some will remember that I shattered a toe when I dropped a computer on it a while back, and now I have disintegrating foot bones it might be a good idea. I do mostly wear trousers so it would look OK. Given that I wear a huge variety of boots, from purple shiny ones to multi-coloured "Glasto" versions, I could probably wear the old type of steel toe caps and nobody would even notice
