pete Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 oh FFS, my lot are still whining about the previous changes to the interface. bloody "lets make it look like XP cos that's a good interface" design gits - labels below (or instead of) icons are a _good_ thing for teachers who only use it when forced at gunpoint. So I get teachers whining to me about how SMT have changed things again, marvellous.

Sylv3r Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Installed here last night with no problems at all, which was very unusual compared to last couple of updates. Up to now no members of staff have commented on the new layout, but a couple have mentioned the dull colours.

Log on using a mandatory profile and use regmon from http://www.sysinternals.com to see if it's trying to write to the user portions of the registry and failing? A diff of a roaming profile before and after it's first used on an upgraded workstation may also give you some clues. All my sims users have mandatory profiles, so I have a vested interest in seeing you fix this before I patch
psydii Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 We've had to move to the July release as it fixed a bug in NovaT/Modelling and Contruction that were preventing our timetabler writing the TT for September. We sent round the pdf outlining the changed UI, and staff have had to just 'get on with it'. I did call it the tellytubby upgrade, which seemed to ease their pain. CryptoAPI problem is a known feature of using code signing and mandatroy profiles together. I believe there was supposed to be a fix for this in a previous solus update. Search support.capitaes.co.uk and the MS knowledgebase for a deeper understanding. Personally I just dropped the mandatory profiles in favour of full roaming. However I have noticed that if the workstation upgrade is not run by the local administrator Assessment Manger and Exams Organiser both give "Critical The located assesmbly's manifest definition with name 'LoginProcesses' does nto match the assembly reference." errors. Assement manager will still run after the error. Exams Organiser will not. Solution is to run simsapplicationsetup.exe as a local administrator. 'Staff' Have 'full control' over the local SIMS folders and RW access to the S:\ If anyone has a clue what else they need, I'd appreciate it!
psydii Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 What are you running it on? We haven't found it to be much different to the previous version. (w2k sp4 on P3 1Ghz 256Mb are our slowest, most common machines)

Ully Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I don't think many of our staff, outside SMT, use SIMS until they're doing end of year reports, which they're supposed to have finished by now. I'd be surprised if they had noticed. All the day to day stuff is Bromcom.] Have to look into that slow thing then, if nobody else is suffering. The server's a bit creaky, but not that bad, I thought. Only other thing, is Teacher's Desktop has gone belly up, again.

Apparently, there's nothing major happening with Teacher's Desktop until October and, correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't even think its supported by the new Profiles 7.

NM spent 2.5hrs on the phone to Capita on Wednesday morning sorting it all out. Within 5 minutes of sending out the "you can log into SIMS again" email to all staff, the phone rang (my machine was halfway through upgrading and I'd not even seen the new front end in use): "how do I use this new SIMS then? It looks very complicated" *bangs head on desk* As much as I like our receptionist, she's one of these who panic and call before they try...
ChrisJ Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The only complaints I've had regarding the new interface were that the photographs had gone missing from the student window. They had their screen running 800x600 and the links bar had covered over it :/ Though the usual suspects are still to do their upgrade....
kingswood Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Did ours on Thursday last week- no problems apart from the fact that .ICT took our secondary server away without DCPROMO being run first...then took it away because it wouldn't demote; leaving me to find out that they also tok away our secondary DNS server and didn't transfer that little skill to our other admin server....blah! It's OK though. They're going to put 2003 Server on it. That's great then. Except we will be left with a relic in AD to dispose of. Oh- and I had to redirect redirected folders to another server. SIMS. It's worse than the game!
