[sims] Error editing/creating user-defined template
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
OneDrive and it's synchronising frenzy. All sorted by excluding the temporary folder for report templates from the OneDrive sync. -
Greetings all, I'm having trouble editing a new or existing user-defined template when modifying a Form Report (RTF) in SIMS. When I click the Edit button, Microsoft Word opens and "Error 4605: This command is not available" is displayed over an empty Word document called "Reports temporary workfile.doc". If I close this, I see the template I want to work on. I can work on the template fine and access the report fields from the Add-ins menu; however, when I try to "Save and Close", I get the error "The macro can't be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings". To try and resolve this, I have completely disabled my Macro security settings and deleted the "Reports temporary workfile.doc" from where the templates are stored so it can be created from scratch - all to no avail. Different versions of Word do this and it's happening on all workstations. Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated, and apologies if I've missed something obvious. Call it "first week of term fog brain"!

There comes a time when one has to give up clutching at straws and eventually post something online because you've completely exhausted all avenues. This is one of those times and I'm hoping you people can help. Our Data Manager has a number of Excel spreadsheets that staff are required to complete. She wanted to share them with staff without them receiving the dreaded "Document locked for editing by " message and initially went down the root of Office365 online. This was a great solution at first and everyone was happily filling in the spreadsheet, until it came to sorting and filtering. If one or more people decided they wanted to sort the data in a certain way or filter the data to only show their class, it would do so for everyone else who was working on the spreadsheet at the time... apart from the cell they were typing in at the time. Therefore, the data would be all over the place. In our case, comments about certain pupils would appear next to the wrong pupil. Looking into this, it appears that Microsoft are aware but it's just not a thing at the moment - Excel Filtering Due to the above, it was then decided to continue to use the Excel application and use the sharing feature provided within the application. Again, this appeared to work well until we started experiencing something very weird - files were disappearing of their own accord. For no reason, when someone who was editing the spreadsheet went to save, they were faced with the "File not found" message and noticed the file had completely disappeared. No other person was using the file. No one had moved or deleted it. I have done the following to try and get to the bottom of it: Copied the original file and started editing it - eventually the file disappeared when I was saving Moved the original file to another location - again the file disappeared "Unshared" the file and start editing - the file didn't disappear Created a new file, shared, and started editing - the file didn't disappear This all seems to happen during a random save operation and only to shared files. Other than the fact they are shared, I can't find anything in common with the files to relate to why they're disappearing. The only thing I have found online is a similar issue with DFSR, however we don't use that. If anyone has experienced similar or can give me some more options, it would be most appreciated. Anything to stop me going a bit crackers!

I did exactly this last week and all has been working well.

Thanks for this thread. I've requested the two patches myself after a failed SIMS upgrade last night. FMS and Discover worked fine. Hopefully, all will go well.

Still here. Teachers still here. Students still here. We don't finish until Friday. Humbug!

Anyone got any info on EICE this year? It's in my calendar for next month but I've had no info about it and the website seems to have disappeared. Is it still on?

This happened to me last week. I thought I'd have to rebuild the server but started in Safe Mode and disabled the SOLUS services. It booted up fine so I've kept it steady for now until I get some support from the LA. I also noticed before all this happened that the Full Package had downloaded successfully while the Database Only download came with an Invalid File Signature message. Maybe this has something to do with it?

Hi gang, We've had remote access for some time and it's worked for both Windows and Apple user with no problem. I've recently had someone ask if it's available for Chromebooks and, to be honest, I haven't tried. With Apple, they use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. Windows, easy. Is there something for Chromebooks that will allow you to configure a gateway? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Do you use a Ticket System/Help-desk System?

Another Spiceworks user here. Most jobs go through here via email or via the portal. If I can, I try to direct people to use it. If they need to know the progress of the job, I direct them to the portal where they can check the notes and see what's happening. -
I've been surprised how lucky we've been, actually. All staff emails are sent for legitimate reasons and not that often. This particular instance was also legitimate, he just forgot the email address (allstaff@ isn't that hard to remember).
-
I tried this for a while with Spiceworks but then got fed up with people stopping me on the corridor asking if I'd got their email!

Someone here has been a bit of a plonker. They decided to send all staff an email, however they went the wrong way about it. Instead of using the "allstaff" email, for which they have access, they selected all of the staff in their address book. This would have worked perfectly well and, for someone who didn't remember about the "allstaff", a valid alternative... which would have been fine had they checked the recipients before they sent the message. Hidden among the email addresses was out IT Support address. Sooo... on sending the email, our helpdesk picked it up and created a ticket with the sender as creator and CCing every single member of staff. On creation, obviously, an email was automatically sent TO EVERYONE acknowledging the creation. I accepted the job (before I realised what had happened) which sent an email TO EVERYONE telling them the job was assigned to me. Then, I closed the job sending an email TO EVERYONE telling them the job was closed. Now, I have countless members of staff emailing me asking what job it was referring to... aarrgghh!!

Hi gang, Has anyone had any experience with Apex Connected (print management company)? They've just been in to talk with our Business Manager and I'm scouting around for some testimonials. Ta in advance!

Getting this done this afternoon. However, no confidence after an email from the LA SIMS Support ended with "Good luck!". What aren't they telling me?? -

Just had an email from our LA releasing it to us today. Might wait until the second week of the holidays before doing anything with it. -
What works for me is, if I start receiving a lot of allstaff emails meant for the same group of people regularly, I suggest to the sender that a new group is created. This has worked so far and reduced the amount of email flying around.

Stick around. Impero have heard and are actively putting things in place to improve things. They realise they're not in customers' (or potential customers') good books at the moment so they're keen to turn things around.

Phone systems recommendations
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in How do you do....it?
Some great recommendations and ideas here. Thanks, chaps! -
Laptops are booked using an online booking system but, to be honest, it's going to be phased out soon. We've found they're not looked after properly by staff and most have fallen into disrepair. The Head has told us that he's not keen to replace them anytime soon.
