@dhicks Firstly, I'm an idiot. It's not ShowTime at all, it's ShowPoint, which is probably why you couldn't find it. Here's the link: Start PowerPoint slide shows remotely
-
@dhicks We do the same, although, if you're continuing to use it, I recommend ShowTime for PowerPoint to add to it. Constantly monitors the folder where your show is and displays the last modified file. No need to reboot.

Right now, a PowerPoint show Hopefully going to something a little more sophisticated soon. It's served well while we've had it for only one screen.

Pearson onscreen platform installation woes
WithoutMotive replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in Educational Software
We had our first exam with this software the other week and all went reasonably well. Good thing, too because their technical support (or support in general) is appalling. It's like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. -
No idea. Never seen him before

Nothing… and a nice big "page does not exist" page from my ISP. -
Yup, I've done it again. Been a member of EduGeek for some time and yet it's months at a time between posts, which means a disconnection from EduGeek community (a number of whom I already interact with on Twitter). I hate disconnection. You feel out of the loop with a lot of things and I'm not so keen on that. Therefore, another conscious effort to keep checking in and, if I don't, shout at me. I'm getting a little fed up of almost introducing myself over and over again.

I'm in. Joined and looking forward to the first meeting in June. Thankfully somewhere nice and close. (I'm doing everything the organisers ask us to do, too. )

Hi gang, Anyone know how, if at all possible, to globally disable SIMS Messaging for all users? Yes, staff STILL use it and I'm trying to drag them into the 21st (or even 20th!) century and use email. Cheers

[sims] Marks disappearing after being saved? Next steps?
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
I would agree with that assumption, however when a user saves the marksheet (or whatever), SIMS is showing it as being saved and hanging slightly as it saves (as it usually does). The assumption there is that the marks are being saved to the database on the server and being confirmed at the user end. If it was a network problem, surely the save would fail or SIMS would crash? -

Initially, when we first encountered the problem, I also put it down to user error but now a few people have reported it, I'm getting concerned. - - - Updated - - - I suppose a bonus is that I'm glad other people have had this issue and not just us! -
[sims] Marks disappearing after being saved? Next steps?
WithoutMotive posted a topic in MIS Systems
Morning people, Once again, I return to EduGeek only when I have a problem (although I talk to a lot of you on Twitter, anyway) but where else would I go?? Anyway, we've had a few reports from staff that they're entering marks into their marksheets in SIMS and saving them (as you would) but then when they go back to them, the marks have disappeared. I've sent a message out to them asking if they've encountered this problem and, so far, had only 7 back. You could assume that maybe they weren't saving properly but some are fairly competant and I would imagine they would be doing it right. At the moment, I don't have any firm proof that this is happening. No one has come with a printout from SIMS showing marks saved and then marks not there. I can't exactly ask people to print out everything they do until there's a problem and I can't recreate it as it's a very random thing. So, what now? Just wait and see? Is it an issue other people have had? What can be my next steps? Ta! -
Hi guys, Quick query on SIMS marksheet templates. We can see in the template (see screenshot) that there is a column called "Complete" which is editable and that's clear what it means. However, there is also a column called "Multiple" which you can't edit. We have no idea what this column means or what it refers to. Neither, it seems, does any SIMS documentation or the Capita forums. For some people, this column is ticked, for others it isn't. Anyone any ideas? Ta.

Quick question before I head on over to the Capita forums for this one. A staff member has enabled the Conduct Summary panel on his SIMS .Net Home Page and he's asked me a perfectly reasonable question: In the list of cycles to select, why isn't there an option for Term To Date??? There's Year To Date and Week To Date, even Previous Term. Is there a way to customise these cycles so I can get Term To Date displayed in this panel or am I reduced to having him run a report? Ta!

Hi guys, I only seem to pop onto EduGeek when I have a problem. I should stop that and socialise more. Anyway, I have a problem with users getting onto our remote access facility but only some of the time. The error ID on our gateway server is 301 which states that the user is not authorised to access the requested resource. Now, usually that means either the user isn't in the right group specified in the CAP or the resource they're trying to access isn't in the RAP. This is, indeed, true. The server stated in the error isn't in the RAP... the reason being that is isn't one of our RDS servers! Unfortunately, everything I've found on the internet is telling me to add the resource to the RAP because that's the problem. However, I want to stop this particular server from entering the picture in the first place. DNS is fine. CAP is fine. RAP is fine. Server in question isn't in our RD farm. Any help greatly appreciated

I'm a Strategic ICT Manager. My title means bugger all. Haha. -
In Rome, don't let anyone take your photo! Even with YOUR camera. They try to charge you extortionate amounts.

Well, after an entire summer of tagging like maniacs, we're now starting to use SAM to it's full potential. It's going to greatly improve our system of writing equipment off. Just print a report of all items marked as Disposed and give it to the governors. Quick and easy. It's also working well in terms of loaning equipment. I can easily find out when and who a piece of equipment has gone to and when to expect it back. I've created a few extra fields such as lamp replacement dates and filter cleaning dates for projectors. This then emails me after a certain time to remind me when they're next due. All in all, we're really happy with the system. One gripe is that their app could do with a bit of updating.

Hi gang, Issue resolved! And, it turned out to have nothing to do with me The member of staff in question was a supply teacher last year. When she started full time employment, Personnel added her as a new employee instead altering her previous record. I added the user from this full employment record as expected. However, the person who arranges cover was adding the cover to her OLD record, hence why it wasn't showing up. Adjustments to leaving/starting dates and everything has now been sorted. Thanks for your suggestions.

Nope. Just the one.
