  1. Thanks, @witch, but I think the librarian is now buying a new reader. To be honest, it's ancient, so a new one will be beneficial.
  2. Haha! Too right they're evil. It's for Eclipse 2. However, I've now given up and suggested buying a new one which is more recent. Hate, hate, hate them.
  3. Stab in the dark but can anyone find a driver for one of these for XP Pro? Its ridiculously old so I'm giving in shortly and advising buying a new one. Thought I'd try just in case, though.
  4. All sorted (not sure how). Re-terminated both ends of the cable again and now I have a proper connection. I'd done this at least twice. Oh well... done now Thanks.
  5. Its a pretty basic tester which gives a yea or nay for connection. Nothing more. I reterminated one end because it was crossed over. Admittedly, I haven't done the other end which I'll try. The end I re-did was very badly done by the people who supplied the classrooms.
  6. All machines work fine (one was my laptop). The port was the main one into the room from the cab.
  7. Need some ideas thrown my way regarding this one. We have some networked portable classrooms, one of which has developed a problem. Totally lost it's network connection - no link light on the computer, nothing. So, I tested the various network leads at the computer end and at the cab - all fine. Tested the cable between cab and wall socket - fine. This lead me to believe it was a faulty network card in the machine - not so. Plugging two more machines in revealed still no link lights. Again, tested all cables and everything was ok. So, with perfectly ok cabling along the whole route, perfectly working port on the switch, perfectly working network cards on machines, why am I still not getting a connection? Any thoughts would be appreciated. WM
  8. Hi guys, Just been given an HP Mini 5103 with the message that letters W and E weren't working. Hoping for a simple job, I took a look. Turns out that, weirdly, the letters "QWERTY" aren't working and EVERY single other key works. I don't think there's a scenario where "QWERTY" are on their own separate circuit. My assumption was that keys are arranged in rows when it comes to circuits or blocks. Again, though, other keys wouldn't work. Any thoughts?
  9. Thanks, Chris. That worked a treat.
  10. Sorted this problem out. Had someone come out in the end. They stripped the printer down completely. Then put it back together again and it started working properly. Still don't know the cause but reckon it was a loose cable.
  11. This happened for us over Easter, too. I suggested when and two weeks earlier announced to the staff that servers will be off at that time, no question.
  12. This photo is of the pupil probably when she was in Y7. We're not even sure it's her from the blazer. The only relationship she has with the school is that she is a past pupil.
  13. Not quiet at this time of year. Lots of online exams. For some reason, I find myself responsible for creating videos for the Y11 Leavers Dinner.
  14. Did that today. Thanks. Got to the printheads. Reseated them. Didn't do a damn thing. Ordered a replacement one in case this is damaged. Only thing I can think of now.
  15. It's been a weird day and this problem topped it all. We had someone call wanting information on a past pupil who left in 2001. No problem, we could do this. However, when we brought up this pupil's details, we found a photo in her details?!? 1. This photo wasn't imported by any of the administration staff. 2. We didn't have photos in 2001. 3. SIMS didn't have that ability in 2001! So… how has it got there?? What's slightly weirder is that the person in the photo doesn't even look like she's wearing our uniform. Stumped me slightly.
  16. Hi guys, I copied a file to a folder on our server from my computer today. Later on, I wanted to delete it but was denied access. Checking the properties (directly on the server; as administrator) I noticed I didn't have permission to change anything. I've had this before and it was due to ownership so off I go to change the ownership… however I don't have permission to do that either!! So, I'm an administrator and can't do ANYTHING with a particular file. I can move it, delete it, rename it. Any ideas??
  17. Absolutely right. Communication is important but, again, VM has been second to none. Sorry for your bad experiences.
  18. Oh, I'm not dissing Virgin Media. Excellent service. Excellent constant speed. A few problems in the past but sorted out very quickly. I'm just impatient and want my doubled speed NOW. Haha.
  19. Annoyingly, I don't seem to be scheduled for my upgrade until October.
  20. And it's nearly always the science department… or Maths.
  21. Weirdly, I've just had a disk handed to me from a science teacher which has MMS V2 on it. God knows where this came from.
  22. Hi guys, We have an HP Designjet Z2100 Photo printer which is causing us a few problems. We've had a message on the display telling us the Magenta and Yellow cartridges are missing when they're clearly not. They've even been replaced with new cartridges and we're still getting the message. After a bit of routing around, I managed to look at the status of a few things. It turns out the printer is telling us to reseat the M-Y printhead. Herein lies my problem. I can't get the damn printhead caddy to the middle of the printer! I've selected the option in the menu to replace printheads which should bring it to the middle. However, I'm getting a message that the printheads don't need replacing and so it's refusing to budge. I can't even move it manually because it's locked in place. Any ideas? Ta.
  23. Just seen his other ones: Jaws, Imperial March. Clever but needs to get out more.
  24. I'll have to remind myself. Haven't had a problem since. I'll get back to you ASAP, @plexer
  25. It's not, as far as I'm aware. When we started getting Windows 7 machines in, it didn't work very well. When I tried to get support for it, I was told it wasn't available anymore so there's no upgrade. Our science department are pretty gutted because they use it all the time... apparently.
