  1. On a good day, 30 minutes on two buses. Never more than 45, though.
  2. Cheers, guys. I'll try all of the above when I get the chance and let you know.
  3. Hi guys, I'm either lazy, frustrated, stupid or all three but I've searched for an hour now. Can someone see if they can find a Windows 2000/XP/Vista driver for this Belkin ethernet adapter? I'm afraid the picture show everything the adapter has on it. No labels or anything. Thanks :-)
  4. I'll do that tomorrow, thanks.
  5. @jamesreedersmith I can feel cold air coming from the fan on the heatsink, which I thought a bit strange.
  6. Thanks for your suggestions. In the meantime, I have a replacement computer for the member of staff in question but I'll definitely investigate this further.
  7. While I'm posting I might as well throw this one out there. For a while now, every single computer on our Curriculum network makes the Critical Stop sound about 5 times in quick succession on the hour, every hour. I've checked several times and there's no programs running every hour. I've just no idea. Any suggestions?
  8. Thanks for the quick reply. I've checked the PSU fan and it's all working fine. The CPU temperature is currently 65C and it hits 70C by the end of the day. I left the side of the machine off for the day and the CPU temperature still rises. No vents are blocked.
  9. Hi guys, Weird one here. I have an Acer Veriton 3700GX that, towards the end of the day, starts overheating to a lovely 70C on the CPU. Everything seems to be working as it should. Fans are spinning and in the right direction. I'm a little unsure, though, about the layout of the machine and whether air is blowing where it should. The fan attached to the heatsink is blowing towards the HDD and is blowing COLD air. The small fans on the back of the machine are blowing but don't seem to be doing anything that's helpful. The heatsink and copper piping is very hot. Is the layout correct? Is everything facing the right direction? I don't know. Follow the link to see a pic. 11. Thanks, guys. Found everything that was needed in SIMS .Net. All good :-)
  12. Number 1 - I haven't been on EduGeek for AGES! So, apologies. Number 2 - Can anyone tell me anything that is still in Nova-T4 that CANNOT be done in SIMS .Net itself? The reason I ask is that Nova-T4 is a 16-bit application that Windows 7 (64bit) isn't keen on and most of our new machines coming in run that operating system. So, do we still need to access T4 or is all the information now available in SIMS .Net? Many ta's
  13. This would be mine, too. I spent 3 years in training and 4 years working in the West End as a Theatre Tech. Too expensive to live in London so moved back up North. Worked dried up so I went for my second love - IT.
  14. As do I... when I remember to blog.
  15. Also sent you a PM. We've had our Twitter feed on our site for some time. Like elsiegee40, it was very useful during the snow and also quite useful when our rubbish phone system is down. Also discovered Tweetymail which allows me to enter different email addresses so various members of staff (controlled by me) can email our Twitter account to update it. Saves them having to understand the whole Twitter thing.
  16. Happy Birthday! Don't like cake
  17. It happened not so long ago on our DC (Server 2008) and it's happened again today. Sophos updates quite happily but then fails to start the Sophos Anti-Virus service with an unhelpful "unspecified error" (Error: 0x80004005) I've searched and searched but can't find ANYTHING that will help me sort this out. Anyone else had a similar problem?
  18. I wouldn't be surprised but they've always stated it's nothing to do with them. I'm always bypassing the LA to get RM to unblock things. It's THEIR filtering guidelines that block us. RM or LA... not keen on either of them. Lol.
  19. Our LA use RM for content filtering and it's just awful. I'm constantly getting in touch to ask them to unblock perfectly legitimate sites. I struggle downloading drivers for various things because they've blocked it. And yet, some sites which SHOULD be blocked, aren't. What also "grinds my gears" is that they give no reason for blocking various sites other than "it contravenes our filtering guidelines" even though the site is clearly an education resource. So, no, I'm not a fan.
  20. My sentiments exactly. I've only voted twice in my life, this being the first General Election. It's not like I haven't had the chance, I'm 31, for God's sake. It's purely because of the fact that it ends up in the same situation years down the line. They're all as bad as each other. I liked Clegg this time, though. Hope I can put up with the Torys as well as him.
  21. I had a meeting with them yesterday when they visited the school. They're a very pleasant company to talk to and certainly don't present themselves as "salesmen". They're happy for me to use them in an advisory capacity as we already have a schedule/contract in place for a big upgrade in the summer. However, they were interested in a possible collaboration with our maintenance company for any future projects. I'm still very interested in NetFlow and think it would be a great tool to use in the future. We'll see how it pans out.
  22. I went to their seminar in the North West not so long ago and I was also impressed with what they have to offer. I actually have a meeting with them today so might get some more information.
  23. Hate OxBox. It's horrible. Had an awful time installing it a few months ago.
  24. I've started using MapMyRide.com to keep track of where I go and how I'm doing. Really useful site with a handy iPhone app to track as you go. Been good to inspire me to keep going.
  25. LOL. I did the opposite and got on it. I've been cycling every night since Saturday. Quite proud of myself.
