Hi guys, One of our office staff have a Kyocera FS-1300D printer. This morning I was called to see a problem where she was trying to print class lists. On some lists, the printer was printing half the list and then not bothering with the rest (see image). It's very random so no specific documents involved. My initial thought was a memory issue on the printer. I've ruled out the computer and the applications used as everything prints fine to other printers. This particular printer is installed locally. Any thoughts? Ta

[sims] SIMS Messaging - message groups?
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
OK, I've been a bit of an idiot. Checked the Pastoral Structure and the "All Heads Of Year" counts the actual HOYs and the supervisors, too. So, now I've found out how the current ones work, is there any way we can create customisable groups of users to send messages, too? -
[sims] SIMS Messaging - message groups?
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
There is but, for some reason, there's about 10 Heads Of Year and other such roles which are completely wrong. I've checked in System Manager and some people aren't even in the Role that SIMS Messaging says they're in. -
Hi guys, We use SIMS Messaging quite a lot but it's particularly frustrating when people send a message to all users when it's intended for, say, just form tutors or Heads of Year, etc. Is there any way of customising the message groups that you can search? Where is this list populated from and is it 'editable'? Ta!

No display on projector or monitor
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Thanks for your suggestions, guys. @mac_shinobi - I'm going to take a look at drivers and graphics stuff today and see if that solves anything, thanks. @bladedanny - I've used three different video splitters and all are powered correctly. Thanks, anyway. @DarrenC - Once I've checked drivers, etc., I'll get the model numbers to you. -
No display on projector or monitor

I can get models, etc. tomorrow but this problem happened all of a sudden to equipment that's been in place for about two years with no change. -
No display on projector or monitor

I've changed pretty much everything. I'm almost to the point of ripping out everything and replacing the lot. -
No display on projector or monitor
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Hoping for some help this time around. There have been a few developments. We've tried three video splitters now and found the following: Attached the monitor to the computer - works Attached the projector to the computer - works Connected the VGA cable that usually goes from the computer to the splitter to the monitor cable - works Done the same to the projector cable - works. When I put a video splitter into the equation, I either get a blank screen or a screen flickering wildly. That indicated refresh rate. Changing the refresh rate to all available options made no difference at all. I'm at a complete loss now. Everything we've done points to the video splitter and yet we've swapped them for splitter we KNOW work. Any ideas? -
We're using Exchange 2007 here and we're looking at the possibility of having pupils emailing an attachment to an email address which is then extracted and put into a specific folder for a teacher to access? Is there anything out there that can do such a thing or does anyone have any suggestions as to how this can be done? Ta!

Not at all. Of course I'd want them to pay out but it would still be a rap on the knuckles for me for being an idiot.

Very true.

Despite all the reasons for concern, I'm not bothered at all by this. I'll still use my iPhone. I'll still like my iPhone. If someone gets hold of my phone/laptop and gets this data, it's my fault for being so careless to let them get to the items in the first place. Other reasons I've seen include a "jealous partner" taking a look because they suspect you've been up to no good. In that case, don't worry about your phone security, I'd take a close look at your relationship. Lol. Nah, not worried or concerned at all.

Wireless Network - Which Vendor?
WithoutMotive replied to chrisgoodrich's topic in Wireless Networks
We've recently gone for (almost) full school coverage with a Meru system. A few problems but, overall, a good system and easy to manage. -
However, when leaving school, kids should be damn good at PowerPoint and Access Other than that, I think they'd get quite a shock when they get into the real world.

I'm already on week 2 then next week is only 2 days long for pupils/teachers, anyway. It's all very mixed up. Still, jobs to be "jobbed"

The future according to google search results

I shall refer to this at the end of every year to give me an idea of what's to come. -
All the best, Russ. You're going to a good place, though

Hi guys, Might be being a bit thick but here goes: In our drama theatre we have a computer connected to a simple video splitter which then goes to a monitor and an Epson projector. All was perfectly fine with this until last week when, suddenly, there was no display on the monitor or the projector. I've replaced all cables. I've swapped the outputs to different ports. Nothing. Both monitor and projector work fine when connected directly to the computer and other computers/laptops work fine through the splitter. Something tells me it's some setting on the computer that is stopping the display. I just don't know what it is! Cheers.

Hi guys! Wow, haven't posted on here for a while so I thought I'd pose a problem. We have 2 Dell Color Laserjet 1320c printers and both have all the colours faded. The black is fine but all the colours are faded. However, there are new toners in the machine and the web interface shows all are virtually full. Any hints? Cheers

Use it all the time as a feed on our website - it's brilliant for informing parents and also staff/pupils of news, info and any maintenance that's going to happen.

[sims] Taking ownership of reports [Solved]
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
I did as vikpaw suggested and managed to make myself the new owner of these particular reports. Edited the bits that needed it. Exported. Imported. Everything works and the report is owned by the system. Thankfully, no changes will need to be made in future. Thanks again, peeps. -

[sims] Taking ownership of reports [Solved]
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
I know that route. Problem is, there's that many templates and other bits associated with the various reports, it messes everything up when I do a "Save As...". It's something I'll have to do if I don't find a way of just transferring ownership. That's a last resort kind of thing. -
Some time ago a user had a problem with their SIMS account. Their account had to be removed and recreated. However, under their old account they had created some reports - nice complicated ones that relied on the output of other reports. These reports require editing but, obviously, SIMS wants to save them as something completely different because they no longer belong to the user. This will throw template and other things into disarray. So... instead of recreating the reports completely from scratch (long job), I was wondering if there was any way of taking ownership of reports so you can edit them freely and overwrite them. Or, just transferring the reports from one user to the other. Or... do they have to be done all over again
