I'm sure this is the wrong way round but I find much more satisfaction and solutions to SIMS problems by visiting the Capita Support Forums than going to my own LA's SIMS Support team. It's quite often that they visit the same site, anyway, or give the same answer of "we'll have to take this to Capita" every time. Couple of minutes of frustration there.

I noticed that I haven't been very active on Edugeek for sometime. I've no idea why but I suddenly turned into a person who wasn't keen on forums. Stupid really considering the high value I've put on EduGeek in the past. So, I'm trying again. Back into the swing of things. Unfortunately, that's not the right place. I've changed that and it's still saving captured video to Shared Video which I assume is on the local machine. I need to save this captured footage to Shared Video in the user's userspace. Thanks again,.

We've got a problem with Windows Movie Maker 5.1 running on Windows XP. When users use the Video Capture Wizard to record footage with a webcam, they cannot save the footage to anywhere apart from Shared Video on the local computer. This means that, when they come to work on the project again, they must use the same computer otherwise their video isn't there. The only workaround is to export the footage and re-import into Movie Maker. Is there a reason why it won't capture the video to a network drive? Clicking on Browse select somewhere to save the video before capture results in a completely blank My Documents and My Computer where there is definitely something in there and users definitely have access. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hi gang, Just wondering if this was possible. Just an idea. We have Exchange 2003 running on Windows Server 2003. I was wondering if it was possible to set something up so that pupils can email an attachment to a certain email address and, instead of the mailbox being accessed by a user, the attachment to be saved to a specific folder to be accessed as a share instead. If this isn't possible or too complicated, it doesn't matter. Cheers

Hi gang, The past few years I've had a lovely little script which adds my new users from a CSV files, sets their home folder share, permissions, etc. using RMTSHARE and XCACLS. Worked lovely... until this year. This year is different as we have our DC and a separate file server where the home folders are stored. Created users - fine. Created folders on file server - fine. Created security permissions on folders - fine. Created home home folder shares - ah... RMTSHARE doesn't allow UNC paths so, I'm now a bit stuck. My lovely script, as run from the DC, creates the users, remotely creates the folders on the files server and remotely sets their permissions but won't share the buggers. I WOULD run the script from the file server but it isn't a backup DC. Any suggestions? Ta.

I've just stumbled upon Prism by Mozilla Labs (Prism) It's a lovely piece of software which allows you to have a website open as a standalone application (of sorts). It's completely separate from your browser so doesn't interfere with it at all. It comes as either an installable application or a Firefox add-on. Take a look at the features list on the website to see what else it does. Personally, I use it to access my Google Calendar. Double-click the icon on my desktop and there it is already logged in. Lovin' it.

We've stuck with Eclipse2. It's fast, reliable. I have had maybe one or two issues with it in the 5 years I've been at the school.

Yay! It was approved the other day and now the school has a Twitter account which feeds to our website. So, visitors can either catch up with updates on our website or follow us on Twitter. It's useful for event updates, immediate information (like when the phones are down AGAIN!) and other stuff. Yay Twitter.

Actually, since that particular post, it's become unblocked by the LA. I'm not sure if this is by accident or not but it's unblocked. If it's not, you can use Twittermail which allows you to email your updates to Twitter and receive them on request. Or, you can access Twitter on your phone. Before I got my iPhone, I used to use Twittermail a lot. Very handy.

I was thinking about doing this before this half term and have handed it over to the head. The feed would be on our website which means instant communication. I think the possibilities at school events would be brilliant. Live "tweets" as things happen at football or music events. Even with photographs to Twitpic. When the event is over, the tweets could be consolidated into an accurate blog about the event. I just hope she says yes, now.

Hey gang, Just wondering if you can help out a colleague of mine. During Easter she had some valuable ornaments stolen from outside her house in the Pleasington area of Blackburn.
