Hail for us. Was waiting for messages on Twitter asking if we were open. Now we've just got kids complaining they're cold.

Hi guys, Just replaced our Timetabler's computer. Installed SIMS as normal. Jumping into Options 5, Implementation Manager pops up with the message "cannot read 'n' implementations" ('n' just happens to be 10). No problems on his old machine or any other computer so it's not an issue with the Options directory on the server as the KB article from Capita suggests. Permissions are correct (same problem occurs when logged on as administrator) and the OS is the same as others in the school where it all works. Any suggestions? (awaits notification from brilliant Edugeek app!) Ta.

Article: Presenting the EduGeek App for Android and iOS
WithoutMotive replied to ZeroHour's topic in Legacy CMS Comments
Loving the app. Nice and fast. -
Just found this thread and I've been looking into something like this myself. Trying to make it easier for staff to email a particular address so I want to create a shortcut on the desktop. I've managed to find https://mail.company.com/owa/?exsvurl=1&ae=Item&a=New&t=IPM.Note which opens OWA login and then opens a new message. I was wondering if I could add anything to this to place a particular address in the To box? Ta. [uPDATE] Never mind. Got it - just add &[email protected] to that URL.

Group Policy Printing Preferences error
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Just tried that on a test account and it worked! Waiting for info from staff about it so hopefully all is good. Thanks guys. -
Hi guys, We deploy printers using Group Policy Printing Preferences and it works really well... apart from a couple of things. We have a two-way trust between networks (which also tends to work really well). Two of the printers in GPPP are on the other network. According to Group Policy Results, these printers are not being applied due to error: 0x8007078f I'm assuming this is a permissions problem, however I'm not sure how as the users have access to other areas on the other network. Can anyone shed light? Thanks,

Computer deleting someone's user documents (??)
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in Windows 7
I got it. I found an earlier thread where a similar thing was happening. It was a Windows 7 machine and the setting in Folder Redirection on the server to "Move the contents of Documents to the new location" was checked. Apparently, this sometimes caused the folder contents to be deleted completely. Unchecked that and all is good again. -
This one is really bugging me. We've recently put in a new Windows 7 machine in a room and we're having the strangest of problems. When a user logs on they are obviously linked to their user folder on the server. When anyone logs on to this particular machine, their user folder on the server is completely wiped apart from the standard folders (My Music, My Pictures, etc). It's every user (apart from administrator). I've deleted local profiles (folders and registry information) and now I'm at a complete loss. Any help? Cheers!

[sims] SIMS Preferences - per user? per machine? global?
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
Thanks guys. in which case their workaround hasn't worked for me. Despite this box unchecked, the problem remains even when SIMS is logged off and on again. I'll probe deeper. -
I don't whether this relates but I've just had a similar problem. A user reported documents missing. I checked their user area and everything apart from the usual "My" folders had gone. Restored from previous version. Next day, reported again, restored. I noticed that the "Last modified" time when the contents had been deleted was always close to 9am. Registration. User said that she registers in a particular room at that time so I was going to monitor the folder the next day. Next day, everything stayed where it was but it turns out she was in assembly and didn't register there. Today, gone again and she'd registered in the same room. That particular machine seems to be getting rid of her documents on the server. However, it's not affecting anyone else who logs on to that computer nor is it affecting her when she logs on to other machines. That computer has it in for her. Investigations continue.

[sims] SIMS Preferences - per user? per machine? global?
WithoutMotive posted a topic in MIS Systems
Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone knows if certain options in SIMS are per user, per computer or global when set through a System Manager account? I've had a problem with the second period in a double period not being marked in Lesson Monitor automatically when the first period is marked. This has happened with a number of people on a number of machines but only some of the time. A bit of researched shows that there is an issue with this but a workaround is an option in Tools>Setups>Attendance Setup>Module Setup called "Use Toggle Marks within Take Register". With this unticked, it resolves the problem. I don't know whether me setting it does it for everyone, whether every user needs to do in in their SIMS account or whether every user needs to check the option is unticked on every machine they're using. Oh, it's all good fun. Cheers! -
Hi gang, I've made a slight boo-boo when it comes to the new Y7s. First time, EVER! For some reason, when I've created the user folders, the security on the folder has set to "servername/username" instead of "domain/username". Therefore, no one can access their user area at all. Is there any way I can change this on all 192 user folders or am I resigned to go through each on individually? I promise, it will never happen again.

Joomla 1.5 and Twitter widget
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in EduGeek Joomla 1.5 Package
Thanks for that. Just done it and found that the red box is defined in our local css for anything . Unfortunately, the Twitter widget defines that particular area as in an external css. If I change to be not red, it messes up the rest of my titles. I've tweaked a bit and it looks a little better. Thanks again. -
Hi guys, I've had our school Twitter feed displayed on our Joomla site before and all was well. However, I've got to put it back on but, for some reason, it doesn't look right. I'm getting a bizarre red rectangle and I don't know where it's coming from. Changing the colours of the Twitter module itself makes no different. That red rectangle is still there. Anyone have any ideas? Picture attached. Ta.

Activating Smart Notebook 11
WithoutMotive replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Educational Software
We had a letter from SMART not so long ago regarding confusion surrounding licensing. It cleared up the confusion and now we're distributing it with no worries. Yes, you are licensed for people to download for use at home. The license, however, doesn't cover connecting to a non-SMART board. If version 10 is already installed, it automatically picks up your license code, too. -
Quick question: Anyone else's lovely LA block access to iCloud? Messes up my syncing of various things no end. It's not a massive issue just particularly frustrating. That'll do for a mini morning rant.

[sims] Restoring partial information from SIMS database
WithoutMotive replied to WithoutMotive's topic in MIS Systems
Ta gang, Kind of knew the answer but just wanted to confirm. -
Hi gang, Back again to post something ONLY when I have a problem. Must stop doing this and post more often. Anyway, to the point, a teacher has been happily working on a marksheet in SIMS and has pretty colours on each person indicated marks, etc. Assessment Coordinator has added a couple of new columns and this has completely wiped all the colours off. Lots of work gone into this and it's all gone. Removing the columns doesn't bring the colours back, either, so the teacher in question has asked if I can restore the original from a backup. Now my understanding is that you can only restore a full SIMS database from backup or is there a sneaky way of extracting little bits? Or am I clutching at straws? Ta.

One of our Deputy Heads is responsible for Timetabling. However, I can usually predict when I'll get the call to "supervise" while he promotes year groups.

I tend to buy cable and cable ends to make my own up. Works out cheaper.

Think @sparkeh won that one

+1 for Super. Might try Format Factory, though. Sounds good.

The one being bought is one suggested by MicroLibrarian so it should work.
