A bit. I have a ridiculous amount to do, not enough time to do it, and I know that my drive to finish it all will run out of puff by the end of the first week. Knowing that, I did start my ‘summer’ jobs back before half term.

 

More looking forward to some time off and maybe even some nice weather!

Rewire 2 rooms and some other cable runs. Install new ICT Room (Thank you ICT Direct). Remove every PC from teaching classrooms and install USB-C hub as staff are coming back to Chromebooks only in the new year

 

Tonnes of other stuff and I'm off on holiday for 3 weeks as of next week

All new printer fleet installation, new SIMS server, new storage server, cupboard is being turned into two offices which need IT setting up, PE block is being reconfigured (and of course there's a shower slated for where the network cab currently is), all new CCTV across the site (on it's own network), and 23 new switches to install. We also need to make a start on getting SharePoint set up.

Not to mention GCSE results day cratering the schedule as the whole IT team have to spend the day taking photos of excited/happy students, and the 2 weeks of summer school (which I'm sure won't have any impact on what we're planning ).

Busiest summer I’ve ever had. Trait wide full network upgrades. WiFi, switches? Cans and re-patching.

New servers trust wide. Including new subnets and domains.

 

Then server and network / WiFi for some individual non trust schools

 

In between all the laptop/desktop imaging.

1 . Moving our IT office to one of similar size all the way across the school. Fun.

2. 20 Activpanels being installed. Great.

3. Google Classroom needs a complete overhaul but SLT have vetoed me and said don't do anything to it. So I'm waiting for the "crunch" last week of holidays when they realise their mistake.

4. General computer moves, cleaning etc that happens in Summer. Half arsed projects that I'm waiting for others to decide on.

Realistically, summer jobs here are mostly 'Tidy up the cabling in the server room', 'Reimage everything to 20H2', and 'move users to the new OU's/GPO's'

Not exactly looking forward to it, but it could be a lot worse.

Let's see what we have on our list;

 

60 new CCTV cameras (we've started the wiring and set up the NVR/DHCP addresses

90 new classroom desktops, which means 90 teacher machines moved to students, which means 90 scrap PC's to be disposed of

Repairing and installing new cabinets after the roof burst over a cabinet (fun right)

Getting ready for our new staff (IE moving everything 2 feet to the left)

 

One thing that I'm not looking forward to is installing an exterior Unifi to a second floor emergency stairwell... If I'm not around in September you know why

 

So the usual I suppose

 

Oh, and how could I forget 20H2 - Though I have made no progress on the Wim and am tempted to see if it will be the last version of W10 to avoid future version upgrades, then wait 6 months to a year for W11

I am looking forward to it actually, as much as I ever look forward to coming to work. Reinstalling all Windows devices with new image, wiping all the shared iPads, (hopefully) junking some terrible laptops that have been a real burden, a bit of AV work (touch wood), clearing out the junk, a couple of classroom moves. It's nice to put things straight once a year before the users trash them again.

 

A bit of freedom from harassment, plus I'm due at least two weeks off somewhere in the middle!

Got a week off at the beginning but all the weeks after will be non stop.

 

we are doing -

 

- complete refresh of PCs and upgrading some to SSDs and more RAM

- running HDMI cables in each classroom

- anything else that comes up.

First summer as network manager for me (take over on Monday and breakup on Thursday so not much time to plan).

 

Reimage all PC's.

Testing hybrid domain deployment (currently run onsite AD and GPO but moving all file storage etc to OneDrive and SharePoint).

Usual account creation and year group roll ups.

Some data work.

Pat Testing.

Network plan updates.

Network updates (Firmware etc).

Documentation updates.

 

Going to be busy as a one man team for the first time in my career with my current boss leaving on Friday.

Have been working on all my projects, planned it all out lol.

New block 20ish RM, 100Plus PCs, New shinny Copiers , New Server installs etc and I still need my holidays to relax

We broke up for the summer last Friday, so already enjoying the peace!List of jobs, that I have thought of so far:

 

- Our smaller site is being closed down, so we have to decommission it of all IT equipment, we started this yesterday and everything is moved/unplugged and in 1 room apart from Smartboards, WAPs and server which will be removed over the next couple of weeks. First pick up of hardware is on Thursday where we will load up a couple of the school buses and unload it to a secure place on site.

- Hardware will need to be sorted through to see what to keep and what to get rid off.

- Create a new 20H2 image to deploy to this hardware and rebuild current laptops.

- Move across staff and pupils who will be starting here in September from closed site.

- Copy data across from closed site.

- Remove old group policies/OUs for other site.

- Setup new staff and pupils.

- Sort through shed of old equipment that has hardware that has been in there before I started last year and get it removed from site with any additional kit.

- Support staff being moved around to different rooms, so need to be around to move hardware.

- 1 ICT Suite is being re-cabled and additional network points put in a few rooms (not by us though!).

- Decide where Smartboards from closed site are going to be installed replacing old IWBs.

 

I've also got to fit in 2 weeks holiday (have a week off next week) and my apprentice has got to take 3 weeks off as well.

Genuinely my favourite time of the year:

My workload at my pace with no interruptions, casual clothes and music playing reasonable loudly!

 

Also the only time I really get to do server work, so looking to upgrade as many servers as possible to Server 2019 without breaking anything.
